...yet no relief for Canada, Brazil, India......
That's because they didn't fight back. You can't appease a bully, you can only fight back and weather the punches.

I would not characterize their response as appeasement. They didn't back down...and now, Trump is punishing them because.....reasons.

Canada has been talking tough talk and then bending the knee during this entire trade war. Meanwhile, China imposed ludicrous counter-tarriffs until a stalemate was reached.

That's how you deal with Trump. Strength and an unwillingness to back down in front of schmoozing or badgering.

First the first tax was questionably legal to begin with and set by the previous administration, as for electricity considering the other things being taxed and talk about isolating alaska, not doing 1 thing that hurts americans more then anything else is different. What canada has been doing is targeting the very people that voted trump into power.

While on other side canada is hurting many american buisnsses that rely on trade and tourism, reducing trade with the US on the stuff the US needs and some how thinks tariffing will improve the US. Where is the US going to get it's potash and steel and such, not from the US.

They still think they're winning, so it doesn't matter how much they are really losing. Any actual worsening of their situation is quickly ignored with statements like "it has to get worse before it gets better".

Will tariffs bring manufacturing and jobs back? Isn't most manufacturing now robotic?
It's possible.

But looking at the capricious nature of the tariffs jumping around from one number to the next each week, I find it hard to believe some exec is going to invest x-billion dollars in creating a new manufacturing plant in the US, solely to avoid the tariffs. If they had some other reason to build here, that might be an added bonus, but I don't see the tariffs alone driving that kind of decision.

they can't for a few reasons, TACO and even if trump keeps them for four years till democrats or a less insane repblican gets into power they will get overturned, then if all that works, thats 4-10+ years of higher prices waiting for products that are you say will be automated, or cost more.

I thought it was zero deals. The UK one literally says it's not a deal nor legally binding on the paper itself...
Trump quietly slaps hundreds of UK products with tariffs up to 25% – from shampoo to washing machines

The White House quietly imposed tariffs of up to 25 per cent on more than 400 new categories of goods that contain steel or aluminium.

British manufacturers have been blindsided in the move which will be “very damaging to British industry”.

It comes after the UK and US agreed a “breakthrough” trade deal in May.

But the completion of the deal is facing delays.

The President said the UK would be safe from future levies when pressed by The Sun following the signing. [That was a lie.]

China Pours Exports Into Africa Faster Than Anywhere Else

Africa has become a new hotspot for Chinese exports as Donald Trump’s tariffs redraw trade for the world’s biggest manufacturing nation.

China’s exports to Africa so far in 2025 are more than in the whole of 2020 and on track to exceed $200 billion for the first time.

The trade war has supercharged a boom that was years in the making, spearheaded by President Xi Jinping’s Belt and Road Initiative unveiled in 2013. And as Chinese companies snapped up contracts to build everything from railways to industrial parks across the continent, the demand for the machinery and materials to complete these projects followed this year.

Nigeria, South Africa and Egypt are the biggest African buyers of Chinese products. Construction machinery was among China’s fastest growing exports to Africa in the first seven months, surging 63% year on year.

Rising protectionism in Washington has given extra incentive for Africa to buy from Beijing. A number of goods from more than 30 nations on the continent that had duty-free access to American markets granted under the African Growth and Opportunity Act are now being subjected to a range of tariffs by the Trump administration.

And in a counterpoint to Trump, Xi said in June that China is removing levies on imports from all African nations with which it has diplomatic ties.

Although most of the commodities imported from Africa to China are priced in dollars, the expanding trade footprint will probably help the yuan make inroads in corporate and government balance sheets.
