  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Busy, busy. Even in the cold.

Did I say I was looking for the perfect bullet?. I found two. But my barrel is wonky so I didn’t but them. My ones I have work pretty good. Good enough for this gun. Went shooting a couple times doing ok.

a little frustrated maybe. Testing, testing with some good results. Next I have to sight in my scope a little better. Everything is high. So I don’t have any idea where it’s shooting at 200. This is my ultimate goal. A three shot group on 10 inch steel @ 200. Did it with my other gun, but then something went wrong with the load and scope. Got frustrated sold the gun. Bought another one all different.

it’s just getting humdrum. Everyday good. Need xcitement and accomplishments. I’ll stick with it as longs as I have a change I know to make. Sight in scope, reloading, try again at 200. Gonna try a new lube. But that’s it everything the same.

little bullets shooting best. How are your eyes now guys?
For distance, my eyes are great! Up close/reading is a struggle. I have new prescription glasses, both for everyday and certified safety glasses for work with progressive lenses. They work good for day to day stuff, but I am struggling with using iron sights, even at 20 yards as I can't focus on the target and the sight picture at the same time. I am a bit frustrated with this. Hand gun is no problem, just rifle. Scope is perfect!!

Two weeks coming up of inclement weather. I don’t see an opening for shooting in the 14 day forecasters. Even the humidity is high. I have reloading out in the shed, which is open air. ahem. The humidity would make my powder damp. I have had some light clumping. This could be the reason. BothBP and some older ones. I usually wait until the % is below 50. Takes some waiting during winter. Anybody experience this?

LOL, a pair of geese are nesting on our outdoor range; the lower end is under 6" of water; I expect a few flocks of ducks behind the indoor range; it is a swamp in a dry year.

how Much evaporation can there be. Getting to the targets could be a problem. But a nice flat surface with no weed cutting. Shooting could be 1-200 yds. Walking around the swamp…………a possibility.

we are in the 50s too

Still raining, and the frost is coming out of the berm; unfortunately the berm acts like a dyke preventing natural drainage. It sucks.

Wow super sorry guy. I hope there is some change by now.

80s, 90s, 100s this week. But I got to shoot 3 or 4 times before this. I was having problems so I went back to basics. Sighted I my scope and was consistent in loading. So I ended my season with a good day. A good 20 shot group and a good 10 shots with BH209. I didn’t do anything different. I just had a good day. The lee 500 grainer was really shining.

I saw we had some shooting weather ahead. Two days in the 70s near the weekend. So I watched them stay true and if anything they went down a couple degrees. I didn’t have any ammo for the 45-70, no bullets, but my brass was clean. So I went to cast…had to smelt… went to cast…. Too many with defects. Smelted some 92-6.5-1.5. Don’t ask me why. I wanted 16-1 but added some 94-3-3 because the alloy previously worked, was a little on the hard side.

Tested this dipping and hotter and perfecto, but still too soft. I think I need hardball again, so I can knock the bullet out of the nose sizer without messing it up. It worked before. Didnt get around to loading them so took out the 6.5 and forgot my ammo. lol. Such busy preparations for 4 days took the 45 minute drive, learned a little but no-thin.
Such is life. Just didn’t work out. Now I order a new mold so I don’t have to size the nose. And I’m going to water down this alloy to make it less Tin and more antimony- harder, because it’s working. Went and bought 40-1 and pure what was I thinking. Hardball works, grips the rifling, makes my 459-500-3R useful. But right now am selling all molds for them, in hopes of one good one. Hope goes on.

Running this one again the second year. Been wanting to talk about guns. My best friend is getting tired of hearing it from me. I don’t know who is going to hear about it though. Didn’t want to start a new thread and then have nothing to say.

Trying to get a new mold for PP. it’s a little larger bullet. Will have to use thinner paper. But that darn gun needs everything custom, for a cheapy. I don’t have any choice but to make it a .451. I don’t think all the paper is going to tear. It’s a .4505 bore and tight. I used a 442 with .oo8 paper and it started to work. Easy to push in bore, tore a couple strips. 443 would still give me 451. But 452 won’t fit in bore, pin gage.

rethink. I had my best group with PP. with cupped base @100. New bullet it might not get out to 200- 30 inch drop, sighting problem. I could accu rise my other new bullet but only to 100. It has a 40 inch drop to 200. You can put more powder with a PPB. Big plus. Which raises pressure for big bullets. Need more experimentation.

I had a great year on the outdoor range with my .22 bench rest. I also picked up a Zastava M22 to play with... it is no CZ. I have also been shooting in our inter-county .22 handgun bulls-eye league. That has been fun. I'm not doing great, but having fun. Picked up another project at a local auction; it may never shoot again, but it is a wall hanger. 16 ga. single barrel. That should keep me busy. I go to pick it up this Saturday.

Made some 405 grain yesterday. 64 ezactly. Only took about 2 hours ladle pouring. More speed, less internal ballistic pressure, less drop, more powder. Just about gave up on shooting to 200 with any accuracy. It said would drop 23.3. Little did I know it was moa, which translates to about 48 inches @200. I can make it shoot flatter.
