In ER with mom. Requesting prayers.

She having chest pain going up into her neck and ears. We are waiting for results now. I don’t think it’s her heart at least. But we’ll see. Prayers appreciated.

We just got back. We were in there for well over 5 hours. Anyway, the pain she experienced and is still experiencing seems to be muscular and possibly skeletal but they did not pick up anything on x-rays. The pain may be caused by her sometimes violent coughing she has. Her heart tests were benign but she does have congestive heart failure where she takes 2 lasix a day. The bloodwork showed she is very low on potassium. They think she lost a lot of potassium due to the med preventing fluid retention and swelling of her extremities. So she ended up being put on a 2 hour potassium IV and given 4 very large capsules of potassium as well. She is already on potassium 2x a day but they think her dosage needs to be upped. I’ll call the doctor tomorrow and see about that and the pain. She is having increased pain when she takes deep breaths and it goes up to her neck and ears. We’ll be looking into all that too. Anyway, she is home and fed. Banana included. Picked her up some spinach and kale to add in salads and smoothies. Gave her an Aleve for comfort in the meantime.

Hi Mitchie. I just saw this. I have been having a lot of the same issues, I go to the ER (in fact just went yesterday again) and am there forever it seems due to all the tests only to find out it is not cardiac related. My GP and others have all come to the conclusion that it is costochondritis which can cause severe heart attack-like pain, it hurts when taking a deep breath and coughing will certainly cause it to flare. They say it is related to musculoskeletal issues. They have told me to take Ibuprofen with acetaminophen the two work together it seems. I do not have heart issues per say, but do have lots of skipped heart beats which scare me, but again, am told it is not cardiac but "anxiety"

Anyway, I just wanted to add my two cents worth. I live in New Zealand but am from America, the medical system is different than back home, we don't pay for ER or hospital stays, but, it is also harder to have tests done unless they feel it is necessary. I hope your mother is feeling better. God bless you.

You are very welcome. I have been in New Zealand for 12 years now. It doesn't seem possible. I still miss home, but it is nice here too. I actually met my husband on CF in another group. Thank you for your prayers too, I need them.

Of course! It’s nice to know that CF has truly brought people together. I will continue to pray for you. Please do the same for me. We have my MIL here as well after a very bad fall. We need prayers for all of us for health, etc.

12 years? That is really amazing. I know you miss the USA but I do hope your find contentment there through it all.

Thank you and I, too, will continue to pray for you and your family. I can't believe sometimes that it has been 12 years either,so much has gone on, some good,some horrible, but all in all, the Lord has gotten us through the bad times. I do miss the USA, but New Zealand has so much beauty and I am feeling more and more at home as time goes on.
