Pete Hegseth confirmation hearing in the US Senate

Maybe, maybe not. I think there's a real, substantive difference between showing up drunk to the office in the middle of the day and showing up buzzed for a midnight vote on which you've already made up your mind. That said, I'm not inclined to defend a bunch of senators and if they are hypocrites, so be it. That doesn't mean they're wrong. I've been drunk at work, too - but all I do is make video games. I don't want a SecDef who's inclined to taking those same liberties.

That is a fair point. However Mr Hegseth has never been drunk while working, according to multiple eyewitness reports. The only accusations against him in that regard comes from anonymous sources who still have not identified themselves.

As I wrote before, popular opinions are not necessarily right opinions.
For example, Netanyahu's policies, condemned by the Hague as war crimes, condemned by Pope Francis, and resulting in many European nations and Canada ending support, are right in not being complicit with immorality.

I respect Pope Francis' beliefs on Israel and Gaza more than the entire incoming administration's. It's not even a contest.

I have never had any respect at all for this Pope's beliefs concerning the decades long violence started by the Palestinians and by Hamas & Hezbollah & Iran against Israel. The Hague appears to be influenced, IMO, by antisemitism people.

Serving in Guantanamo and then convincing Trump to pardon war criminals? SMH.
And thank God he was removed from the Guardsmen protecting Biden on his Inauguration, sent home.
And working for a Koch Brothers non-profit seeking privatizing the VA? He was considered during Trump's first term for Veterans Affairs but veterans protested so loudly Trump backed down.
His views are terrifying. I could not imagine a more dangerous defense Secretary.
I now look on Trump's mercurial personality as hopeful. Hopefully he'll be axed quickly.

I watched some of it today; those female Democratic senators really came down hard on Pete.

It may have gone better for him if he had met with the Democrats, like he did the Republicans, before the hearing.

Pope Francis has called the faithful to reject and speak out against abortion.

Fr. James Martin, SJ, despite coming off as "liberal" is 100% pro-life and is opposed to abortion.
