It will be interesting to see how this confirmation goes.
I watched some of it today; those female Democratic senators really came down hard on Pete.

@wing2000
I am not surprised that Senators Kelly, Slotkin, and and Blumenthal will be voting against confirming Hegseth for Secretary of Defense.

Yawn.
He will be confirmed. The independent and most honorable Republican Senators have been threatened with primaries. Yawn.
Hopefully he's just supposed to be a media figurehead and the real warriors reporting to him will keep us safe.

The vast majority of the real warfighters in the military approve of Hegseth to be the Secretary of Defense.

He is a decorated Officer. Can’t get too much more of a warrior.

It would not matter who Trump nominated. The far left would find an issue.

Lloyd Austin's much, much, much much more. Ask the women in the military. Ask the LGBTQ members. There are plenty of heroic warfighters among them.
Ask the members of the American Legion whose funds he mismanaged.
I have high standards and high expectations of Cabinet members.
I am sure there might be one or two Republicans with credentials equal to Austin's who would be less divisive and controversial.
A president who won with less than 50% of the votes and a miniscule House majority should be looking towards unity and partnership.

To me, Lloyd Austin is a joke. To me, he was a lousy SecDef who cared more about DEI topics and LGBTQ concerns than he did about increasing the lethality of the USA military. Also, Lloyd Austin failed in preventing the extremely stupid and weak way in which our military retreated from Afghanistan.

Real warfighters who scoff at the laws of war and the UCMJ.

As an Independent, I would support Sen Joni Earnst for the job. I would not trust this man with walking my dog, much less managing the nation's Defense Department.

The fact is, the only reason Trump picked him as he looks good on TV and has excellent communication skills. He is a culture warrior who sounds good for the MAGA audience.

He has zero qualifications to run any organization of any size. His record of financial mismanagement speaks for itself.

Until now, nominees for the Secretary of Defense would meet with each of the members of the Senate Armed Services Committee before the televised hearing.

Hegseth only met with Sen Jack Reed.

And in the hearing, the Committee Chair only allowed one round of questioning......

For Senators to be able to carry out our responsibility to confirm Cabinet nominees, we need to have all the facts. Republicans should give all members of the committee access to Pete Hegseth's FBI report and allow a second round of questioning.

What are they hiding?
— Senator Jacky Rosen (@SenJackyRosen)
January 14, 2025

“That has been the custom,” ranking Democrat Jack Reed (Rhode Island) said, pointing to Democratic presidents’ defense secretary nominees. “Sen. [Chuck] Hagel was afforded three rounds. Ash Carter, two rounds. And that was done by a Republican chairman with the consent and the appropriate guidance of Democrats. I must say, to my recollection, I’ve never denied anyone the opportunity to ask the second round of questions.”
