  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Can you spot them?

Some of my girlfriends that come to watch us through the windows lately. They are fascinated by my cats and dogs. They feel pretty safe on out property. I imagine they are pregnant as it’s mating season.

What a beautiful piece of property, and that the deer feel safe there.

It is the funniest thing. My brother is a deer hunter (ugh lol), but he also has deer that lives on his more wooded property in the city. So while he doesn't hesitate to go out and hunt them in the woods, he regards his property as a refuge for them. (Go figure?!?)

I don't have the mindset of a hunter. I attach to animals easily. But working in a wildlife organization for years, I did come to understand hunters better. (And I guess I would want to be near one, if we were living in 'apocalyptic' times! lol)

I had a herd of about six does wander through my front yard a couple mornings ago. I was sitting here drinking my coffee, saw movement, and there they were, just browsing past. Fortunately Sasha didn't spot them, or she would have been woofing and wanting to go chase them.

Momma gets annoyed with the deer because they eat her flower bulbs. They don't bother me, as long as they stay out of the road, lol. I'd rather deal with them than with the bears that live in the woods behind the house. Had one in my back yard a few years ago.

I didn't know you had kangaroos in the US?
They do sort of look like kangaroos from the neck up, don't they? Does do, anyway. Bucks would have antlers. :)

I learned a long time ago not to plant bulbs deer like to eat. Tell her to look up bulbs that deer avoid. I know for a fact they do not like daffodils and hyacinths. They adore Tulips. I planted hundreds one year and they were gone in a day.

Kangaroo bucks (boomers) don't have antlers but they definitely look different to deer from the waist down.:amen: Just a tip for identification!

I was walking along our local (concrete) "bush track" a couple of days ago and I passed three kangaroos a few feet away. One was a bigger male, I think one was an adult female and a younger roo past the joey stage. It had been quite wet for a few days and I think they might have gotten a bit sick of soggy feet in the gully where they normally hang out. Two of them didn't move but kept a wary eye out. The smallest one started to hop off but then stopped when the other two stayed there.

They're used to people as it's a popular walking track. If I'd been walking a dog I don't think they would have stayed there.

A lady who goes to one of our parish churches lives next to the creek that the bush track follows. She said the buck will sometimes come into her back yard, and check out the smorgasbord - a bit of this and a bit of that, then he wanders off.

A kangaroo kept getting out of his enclosure at the zoo at night. Knowing it could hop really high, the zoo officials put up a 10-foot fence. However, they were amazed to find the kangaroo was out again the next morning roaming around the zoo. So, they put up a 20-foot fence instead. Again, the next morning, they were amazed to find the kangaroo had still gotten out. Exasperated, they put up a 40-foot fence.

As the animals in the zoo watched all this unfold, a camel in the next enclosure asked the kangaroo, “How high do you think they’ll go?”
The kangaroo replied, “About a 1,000 feet, unless somebody starts locking the gate at night!”
