Eight Ounces of This Powder Removes as Much CO2 from the Air as a Tree
Compared to synthetic materials used for direct air capture, it captures carbon about 10 times faster as well.

Researchers have invented a compound (powder) that can absorb as much
CO2 as a mature oak tree can, using 8 ounces of the powder.
(Someone correct me, if there are different measures of what a "ton" is.)
Unfortunately, as the per capita emission article asserts, the average
AMERICAN emits 20 tonnes of CO2 a year. Which is about the heaviest
per capita emissions of CO2 in the world.
---------- ----------
So, if 8 ounces of this powder can absorb 88 pounds of CO2 (the amount
that a mature oak tree does, in a year), then each American citizen should be
planting (20 * 2,000 lbs) / 88 lbs or 455 mature oak trees on their property,
to compensate for their PERSONAL pollution of the air.
Or, they could haul around an air filter of this powder, that weighed maybe
250 pounds, to filter the output of CO2 from their car or truck, to reduce
its CO2 emissions to zero.
Considering just CO2, it seems that filtering the exhaust from gas vehicles
completely, is more practical than switching to an electric vehicle that
may have to haul around 1,000 - 2,000 pounds of lithium based batteries,
in order to operate.
Whatever the U.S. does, it had better do it QUICKLY and completely.
Scientists are sounding the warning that a global rise of over 1.5 degrees,
may lead to conditions THAT CANNOT BE REVERSED, NO MATTER
WHAT HUMAN BEINGS DO.
Personally, I would prefer the U.S. requiring that the equivalent of 455 mature
oak trees be planted for every American citizen. And, cities and towns that
cannot do that, should not be allowed to drive carbon fuel vehicles at all.
Doing this, may actually get American citizens in touch with the hugeness
of the current problem of CO2 pollution.
