  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Might want to try out an Orthodox Church, once a month

Guys, what is the best ethnic jurisdiction for Orthodox churches? Greek, Russian, or global (as in, a church that has no ethnic ties).
We all believe and profess the same thing, so given the price of gas, the best church would probably be the one closest to your home. :)

Haha, the funny thing, I walk to my Catholic church, as it is 0.5 miles away. An Antioch Ethiopian and Eritrean Fellowship church church is 1/2 miles away also, and a Greek Orthodox one is a little over 1 mile away. So, is Antioch Ethiopian and Eritrean Fellowship good, or bad.,

Oh thank you for explaining that ... because that's probaby what I would 'think'.

Just something I've wondered, and it's probably a dumb question, but:
Are any Eastern Orthodox 'services' spoken in English?
Or, if not, what language are they spoken in?

I'm guessing that maybe in the Greek, Serbian, Romanian Orthodox Churches, their native tongue is spoken?
I've attended services at numerous different churches and it's always mostly English, like 90% English. That's just my experience, though. From what I've read on this forum, that can vary from place to place.

I Googled Antioch Ethiopian and Eritrean Fellowship, and I mostly got restaurant results. I don't think they're Orthodox.

None are 'spoken' in English, they are all chanted ^_^
I remember after first visiting a church one of my very first questions for the priest was "Why do you guys sing everything? Is there a theological reason or is it just because it's more beautiful?" His answer was "Yes".

Are there any churches that do not sing, or is the singing normal? Imagine a homily being sung out. :)

The homily isn't sung, but one of the reasons the Scripture readings are sung is to prevent the reader from imposing his own interpretation through subconsciously (or otherwise) stressing certain parts of the reading.

Interesting psychology right there.

In the same way we don't consider your Church to be Catholic.
So its the meaning behind the words rather than the words themselves, if that makes sense?

Do they accept the dual natures of Christ or no?
No. They do still make distinctions between His divinity and humanity, but as far as the category of nature is concerned, they believe in "one incarnate nature."
