  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Experience has taught me that ridicule only makes them dig in more. It’s the whole “bad attention is better than no attention” scenario. They think people ridicule them out of fear and that justifies the prejudice. It never dawns on them they’re being ridiculed because they are, in fact, ridiculous. The self-awareness required for such a realization is just not there.
There is also the whole "group think" thing. When they are REJECTED as an individual, then they are still part of that whole. And when they are rejected as a group? Man...the oxytocin rush of feeling they belong...finally. Never feeling a sense of true belonging with anyone until you have to be racist to feel it.

It seems so sad.

Everyone deserves to feel some sense of belonging.... In the meantime, we have forces chipping away at Christian identity and nationalism. What do you suppose will be left as far as identity? This is a philosophical question.

If those are your only two identities then I'd guess you'd be in trouble.

It is as well to remember that National Socialism inculcated a sense of belonging by explicitly excluding, Jews, Slavs (the untermensch), blacks, gypsies, the disabled and the people they described as feeble-minded. It is this kind of 'inclusion' that the Neo-Nazis parading through your streets represent.

The neo-nazi's were peaceful too.

...And as we all know, a protest only needs to be "mostly" peaceful to get a passing grade these days.
Are we allowed to find the political philosophy of neo-Nazis reprehensible even if they espouse their views “peacefully”?

There have been many Neo-Nazi 'parades' in the UK. they always carried the threat of violence and often the reality.

Their choice of where to march is often a clue. City areas with a high immigrant population is the general rule. Their slogans, displayed on placards and often shouted at passers-by are aggressive and provocative. There is nothing peaceful about the marches or their participants.

I doubt if American Nazis are much different.

A patriot is not a nationalist. Identifying as an American patriot is not achieved by carrying a swastika. In my view it is a repudiation of the values of the country and the nation.
