  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I do hope that you get better from your surgery. But yes, I would probably not watch the video. I do not want my favorite subject (science) to get ruined by gender stuff.

Found the video.

Basically the guy juxtaposed classic, rigid newtonian physics with the chaos and wonder of quantum physics.

It's just a metaphor for the gender spectrum...for him and those that choose to see it

He did make "quantum physics gay".

Your arguments will become stronger if you inform yourself with what you are arguing against

Stephen Jay Gould has this quote...
"I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein’s brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops."

You shouldn't avoid someones ideas due to their circumstance.

Sidebar...if you watch the video (interesting enough) skip the first 50 seconds as it looks like a fashion shoot from the 90s and seems more egoist than applicable..and perhaps inappropriate.

Guy has dome very...conflicting labels going on..for sure!

So, in other words, the video is trash? One can not compare Newtonian physics and quantum physics to gender stuff. That's just plain bananas.

It is good that Stephen Jay Gould pushed for social justice. He is center-left, according to Wikipedia.

.
I mean no disrespect here Alex but do I recall you saying you are on the spectrum?

I only ask because I recall you saying so and most ASD folks have problems grasping metaphors.

In terms of my description of newtonian and quantum physics, there anything FUNDAMENTALLY incorrect?

Yep, I am on the autism spectrum (was diagnosed Asperger, but then changed to ASD). God, my parents, my friends, boss, coworkers and psychologist have helped me overcome parts of my high-functioning autism. Don't worry, I rarely get offended.

Awesome! I have always really liked rhe ASD kids I taught and kept a soft spot on my heart for them Some have been a bit of a grind but on the whole they've been sweet and wonderfuly excitable when things click.

May I ask how the diagnoses changed from Aspergers to ASD? You are welcome to dm me this of course. Was it around when "they" decided together rid of that label and just grouped it?

Aww, thank you. This means a lot. Some ASD folks can be difficult to work with, but most of us are easy to work with once one gets to know us. Most ASD folks just want to bring peace to the world.

What reasons does your husband have for London going downhill?
My husband grew up in London and spent many years working as a police officer there. Certain areas can be very dangerous. Islam is now the predominant religion in some areas. London is overcrowded and overpriced.

From my own experience, when I’ve visited London, I’ve found a lot of people to be quite rude and inconsiderate. When I was pregnant with my son, many people would push past me without a second thought, especially on the underground. My hubby and I got married in London at the church he went to as a child. It’s a beautiful church, and we had a lovely wedding, but that’s in one of the nicer areas of the city.

My in-laws moved out of London about 6 years ago because they don’t like what it’s become. They now live in the countryside.

I'm shocked by how much they charge just for a coffee in tourist areas in London. Businesses really take advantage of it, but I suppose that's the case in most tourist areas.

If you venture outside of London, you’ll notice that prices are much lower.

Yeah, big cities can be dangerous, overcrowded and overpriced. Sounds like Chicago.

That is true of everywhere I have been. You should give Paris a try!

Just about every city in the world contains a Muslim community or two. I do not see how that is an issue in London. There and in the the rest of the country they are generally well integrated within the local area and in the wider community. The country is all the better for their presence.

London is overcrowded and overpriced.

Convenience is more expensive and that's a given anywhere. I live in Chicago with everything in walking distance including boutiques and department stores. A car isn't necessary. You can grab a taxi or Uber if needed and the area is safe. The same holds true for London. They have similar neighborhoods and you pay a premium for that.

My in-laws moved out of London about 6 years ago because they don’t like what it’s become. They now live in the countryside.

The countryside is nice depending on your needs. It has its pricey parts that are comparable to London. Moving out of the city doesn't mean you won't have problems elsewhere. If affordability is a must you'll draw that demographic whether it's the city, the suburbs or countryside.

All cities have good and bad areas unless they've priced them out and don't have affordable housing.

Well integrated isn’t a term I’d use. For some, yes, but not for all.

It’s not just London that’s overcrowded but the whole of the UK. Our healthcare system is crumbling, the NHS will be no more soon. I work in healthcare so I know…
Is not the problem of the NHS rather the terrible health of the UK population? I watched some street walk from some UK town yesterday and basically all people were obese, limping, weirdly shaped.

It is said that outside of the London area, the rest of the UK is as poor as the US state Mississippi. Which causes the poor health and all other social problems.

No, it is not. The British have enjoyed improving health over the last 70-odd years, as the rising life expectancy figures have shown over that time (which are significantly better than comparable figures for Americans).

I don't know who said that about UK poverty outside London, but it is to say the least controversial. Some of the worst poverty in the country is to be found in London, while the some of the richest live outside the capital. (For example myself, well-off and provincial.)

Are there no rich people in Mississippi?

The issue isn’t that the population’s health is declining. Health outcomes have actually improved, and life expectancy has risen. The problem is that the NHS is under strain due to a growing population and finite resources.

Lifespan is not health span. People can live long, but have a miserable life.
