  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

More than 700 high-ranking national security officials have endorsed Democratic candidate Vice President Harris in her run for the White House, with some leaders expressing concerns about former President Trump’s “scary authoritarian streak.”

“Vice President Harris has all the leadership qualities needed to be a strong commander in chief. She’s prepared. She’s strategic. She’s understands all sides of an issue,” retired U.S. Navy Rear Adm. Michael Smith told The Hill. “We saw as much during the debate.”

The letter endorsing Harris consists of 741 former high-ranking national security officials, including 233 general and flag officers. Among those 741 officials are 15 four-star generals, 10 former Cabinet secretaries and 10 service secretaries as well as leaders who served in Republican administrations.

“We do not agree on everything, but we all adhere to two fundamental principles,” the letter reads. “First, we believe America’s national security requires a serious and capable Commander-in-Chief. Second, we believe American democracy is invaluable.”

NSL4A Endorses Kamala Harris for President of the United States

To the American People,

We are former public servants who swore an oath to the Constitution. Many of us risked our lives for it. We are retired generals, admirals, senior noncommissioned officers, ambassadors, and senior civilian national security leaders. We are Republicans, Democrats, and Independents. We are loyal to the ideals of our nation—like freedom, democracy, and the rule of law—not to any one individual or party.

We do not agree on everything, but we all adhere to two fundamental principles. First, we believe America’s national security requires a serious and capable Commander-in-Chief. Second, we believe American democracy is invaluable. Each generation has a responsibility to defend it. That is why we, the undersigned, proudly endorse Kamala Harris to be the next President of the United States.

I wish that our military members and retirees would see this.
I am extremely uncomfortable with the former president's friendship with and admiration for the most brutal dictators on the planet, and in particular Putin.
It seems obvious Ukraine is just a first step for Putin, but the enormous toll the war has brought should hopefully set Putin back a decade.
As we go to solar, countries with one-dimensional economies like Russia won't have the economic chops to continue threatening Europe.
Harris recognizes this threat.

Immigrants are not gun-wielding invaders who will traffic your daughters and hook your sons on drugs.

We need to find solutions that balance security and compassion.

Biden persuaded American factories to invest in the northern Triangle to provide employment to the people there.
As Mexico prospered with per capita income of about $6000, fewer Mexicans are leaving. That can happen here

Trump fired them and now they want revenge. Just like Trump wants revenge for bizarre charges against him.

When you realize that politics is about a feedback loop of revenge, things make a lot more sense.

Many of them left of their own accord. Many of the others never worked for Trump--but worked in the Reagan, Bush 41, and Bush 43 administrations. Others were military officers--not Trump appointees.

The common denominator among them all is that they know the difference between conservatism and chaos.

I'm not a Trump fanboy, and the sooner you realize politics is about stabbing people in the back, the more informed you will be.

I do not care what those so-called experts and retired generals say about Kamala Harris and Donald Trump. I was deployed twice to Iraq, and I am still serving in the National Guard. I have 27 years of service in the Army and the Army National Guard. I learned a long time ago that many of the high ranking generals and national security experts cannot be trusted.

There are 740 of them...so how many are untrustworthy when they say Trump is dangerous? 10% 20%...

That is a huge number, many coming out of retirement to proclaim the truth boldly.

I believe in collective wisdom. A few might be wrong, but 740? No way.

That simplistic retort is contrary to actual reality. While some may have been fired more were not.

Projection. That is politics at its worst; we have a choice not to indulge in the worst.

Do you have a list of the names and accomplishments of these 740 people? Should I trust them just because they are believed to be "experts"? In my opinion, those 740 people are forgetting the facts that we had NO NEW WARS with Trump the first time. Can the same thing be said of previous presidential administrations within the last 25 years?
So, I say again, this here veteran of 27 years of combined active duty Army and also Army National Guard does not trust those retired generals and so-called "national security experts."

Evidence or refusal to provide evidence please.

Same sort of thing has happened before. That is what I was drawing on. It's possible that most people here never worked with Trump. Even if that is the case, it does not mean they are not motivated by revenge in another way.

In other words, you think Trump's adversaries can do no wrong and are doing it out of the goodness of their heart? I think that position is very naive.

There names can be found at the second link in the OP. You can copy their names and paste them on Google to find their biographies.

I read the full statements on both links now in your OP. In my very strong opinion, both of those statements are filled with half-truths, biased opinions, and even flat out distortions of the facts.

It's interesting how folks will make up a random excuse that's unrelated and IMMEDIATELY speak pejoratively to people who "dare" to disagree.
You may not be a Trump fanboy but your argument is EXACTLY what Trump fanboy would say; bereft a logic and all.

It's refusal then.

Just calling a spade a spade. I am sure you think all these people speaking against Trump are completely innocent because you are deceived. I think the blame falls on both sides because I am a realist and don't live in fantasy land.

What are you talking about "completely innocent"? In the context of this conversation (republicans see him as someone who should NOT be president) no one is being accused of anything.
I think the blame falls on both sides because I am a realist and don't live in fantasy land.
Lol...Blame? What are you talking about "blame"?

These are people saying Trump is a crap leader and shouldn't be a leader. Many of these people have 0 direct connection to Trump but it doesn't matter because many people who HAVE worked directly with him would say the same thing. It's only people who don't HAVE TO rely on the public to get votes to remain employed; THOSE are the people who are willing to be critical of Trump within his party.

The fact that many of these people belong to the same party he is representing. THAT doesn't happen. Like....EVER. When else has that happenned in American history? You may not live in fantasy land but to think that what is happenning is excusable or normal or somehow a pointless damp squib, suggest you're not quite a realist.
