  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

-If science is such a blessing from God why did it not come from the Hebrews (nation of Israel). but instead the origins of science came from pagan societies, Egyptians, Greeks.....
God chose Abraham's descendants to be his people, rescued them from Egypt and gave them his covenant. They were to be light to the Gentiles and lead people to God.
That doesn't mean they also had to be world experts in fashion, science, literature, finance etc. etc.

So a lot of scientists came from Greece or Egypt; so what? It doesn't make their work, or their discoveries, "pagan" or invalid.

From the book of Enoch (chapter 41)

And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him. Genesis 5:24

5 And I saw the Chambers of the Sun and the Moon, where they go out, and where they return. And their glorious return; and how one is more honoured than the other is. And their magnificent course, and how they do not leave their course, neither adding nor subtracting from their course. And how they keep faith in one another, observing their oath.
(Psalm 104:19), (Job 9:7) related

6 And the Sun goes out first, and completes its journey at the command of the Lord of Spirits – and his Name endures forever and ever.
(Psalm 19:1-5), (Ben Sira 43:1-5), (Ecclesiastes 1:5) related

7 And after this is the hidden, and visible, path of the Moon, and it travels the course of its journey, in that place, by day and by night. One stands opposite the other, in front of the Lord of Spirits, and they give thanks, and sing praise, and do not rest, because their thanksgiving is like rest to them.
(Ben Sira 43:6-8), (Psalm 148:3) related
But the Book of Enoch is not part of God's inspired and inerrant Word.

Isn't that a n over-simplification?
Yes it is.
But I don't believe that heaven is a specific, geographical location - "straight on to the North Star, turn left at the next cloud and you'll be able to see the pearly gates." I suspected that was the kind of answer that Apple sky wanted me to give. Apart from which she was changing the subject and trying to avoid my previous questions.

If the word planet means wondering star, then yes.
No, the English word "planet" doesn't mean "wandering star", but is comes, as I mentioned before, from a Greek phrase that did mean "wandering star". We distinguish between planets and stars. The ancient Greeks didn't.

To be fair, Apple Sky may have been referring back to my post where I said that the word "planet" comes from asters planetai, ancient Greek for “wandering stars.”
Maybe, but her style of asking questions is childish and lazy. She does not try and expects every detail to be brought to her on a silver plate (and then just dismisses it or forgets it quickly), instead of using google or AI or an elementary school textbook or anything on her own.

What's so funny?
You believe that heaven IS a geographical location?
What are the directions? Which cloud does God sit on?

Lazy, that's me, I was given this advice by a very wise Indian guy ;)
YOU weren't given the advice; you looked it up on YouTube.

Which do you prefer; his "advice", or Paul's instruction to study and shew thyself approved unto God, 2 Timothy 2:15?

Pretending to be an 8-years old or a troll is not a wise thing.

You are even unable to formulate your position properly, its just a random mixture of incompatible ideas.

It's not really funny, though.
You could easily look up some of the things that you ask about - like Antarctica, for example - and discover the facts. There are some good science textbooks out there; even those which explain things simply. In the case of Antarctica you could, as I suggested, go and ask a travel agent.
Instead, you look to YouTube for your "facts", and sometimes the clips you choose to prove your point don't say the things which you thought they said. Then you have to say "my mistake", or "ooops" or you just ignore the fact that you've got it wrong.

Relying only on YouTube for all your scientific information is kind of lazy.

I'm sorry but that's ridiculous.
I said that the account in Genesis doesn't tell us everything about God's creation - and it should be obvious to anyone that that is the case.
Can you show me, from Genesis 1, how God decided to give some animals fur and others skin?
Can you show, from Genesis 1, HOW God made the trees - did they appear fully formed, were they saplings, acorns/seeds that grew quickly?
Can you show me, from Genesis 1, how God made us; how did he decide to give us 5 fingers on each hand, or even just two hands? How did he make our brains and internal organs?

Genesis does not tell us this - that is not its purpose.

If you want to learn history, read a history book.
If you want to learn biology, read a biology textbook.
If you wanted to learn how your new laptop worked, you would not look in Genesis 1 but consult the manual.
If you/your child met a Spaniard, wanted to marry them and needed to learn the language, you would not look to the Bible to teach you but the appropriate books and literature.
If you want to learn about God; who he is and his relationship with the people he created, and of his love and salvation, read the Bible.
The Bible did not teach you how to count. Nor about the history, and constitution of the US. How did you learn those things? You looked to other sources.

There aren't any other sources that teach how to have eternal life; that is the point, and purpose, of the Bible.
John 3:16, John 6:29, John 6:40, John 14:6.
God's will, work and purpose for us is that we believe in Jesus. If we do, we will have eternal life. He is the only one who gives it and the only way to the Father.

Did you miss what I said about the word "science" meaning "knowledge"? Did you miss the bit where I said that God has given us the ability to explore, learn about and understand his creation?
Science = knowledge; it does not mean "atheists who don't believe the Bible". Those who study science may become Christians - putting their faith in Jesus as their Saviour and Lord. Christian teenagers may decide to study science at university, teach it or make a career from it - it doesn't mean they have abandoned their faith or become atheists.
-
I am addressing creation and specifically God's creation, which The Bible does address. So why do you need to look to outside sources about God's creation. If you believe science about what the sun, the moon and stars are and that there is a universe where all this is. Why do you reject the same science who also states evolution is a fact.

Come on are you a science hypocrite, you will accept the science that fits your beliefs but reject the science that does not. Kind of the way you do The Bible, you will believe some of the creation account but drop the parts that go against your accepted science beliefs.

Tell the atheist here that evolution is a lie.

You seem to be quite disoriented.

1. Its not "the same science". Its a completely different field.
2. Evolution is neither a fact nor a lie, its a scientific theory - a system that interprets and predicts the behavior we witness in nature.

I am addressing creation and specifically God's creation, which The Bible does address.
But it doesn't give detail!
I've asked you to show me the verses in Genesis 1 which explain how God made our brains, decided to give us two hands or chose to give an animal fur instead of skin.
You haven't done so because you can't. Genesis 1 does not give us that level of detail.
-So why do you need to look to outside sources about God's creation.
If you want to remain in complete ignorance of biology, human biology, genetics, zoology or astronomy; no reason at all.
Unless you want to have a discussion, or debate, about it - which is what you're doing here.

If you believe science about what the sun, the moon and stars are and that there is a universe where all this is.
All I said was that you cannot learn about biology, or human biology, from Genesis 1. THAT is a fact.

Come on are you a science hypocrite, you will accept the science that fits your beliefs but reject the science that does not.
I wouldn't normally be so blunt - but you are talking rubbish.

I have said several times that I am not scientific.
I have not been talking about evolution, nor have I said that I accept it.
Read my words carefully - we cannot learn human biology from Genesis 1. That is not its purpose. God did not sit down with Moses, or whoever, and say "now this is what I need you to know about how I made your spine/brain".

What science have I rejected? I thought science was supposed to be pagan and evil?

Tell the atheist here that evolution is a lie.

I haven't even mentioned evolution.
