  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

We were taught in school about Columbus & that before Columbus sailed the seas people believed the earth was flat and would fall of the edge. I remember saying to myself at the time, 'how could people believe such a thing, that the earth was flat' from there on (for some reason) this has always played on my mind.

Moving on a few years I met this guy who explained to me how the earth was flat & he even drew a picture for me with the surrounding ice ring that would stop us sailing off the edge, so I began to research flat earth & when I read Genesis 1, well, this just blew my mind away.

This is when I started to believe that every word of God was true & the rest is history.

So I know how you feel & think about someone who believes the earth is flat & how hard it is to take them serious.

But never mind, maybe some day you too will see the light. :praying:
I think I see where you went wrong...

Not at all, I just asked where does your universe end, it's not a hard question.
It doesn't end, as far as I know.
God is infinite; he can create an infinite universe.

And you were changing the subject: I said that just because the universe is not mentioned in Genesis 1 that doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
The answer to that, as far as I can see, is either; "no, you're right, it doesn't", or "yes it does - if something is not mentioned in Genesis 1, it doesn't exist."
You replied, "so what's at the end of the universe then?" That doesn't answer my point and is not related to it.

Never said The Bible did, but The Bible does give the creation account in Genesis 1.
It gives one creation account; another one is in Genesis 2, and Job 38-40 says quite a bit about creation too. Yet they don't tell us everything.

So as for the area above our heads there is the raqia called heaven or sky and the creation of the great lights (sun and moon) and the stars. Which is what we see, we do not see above the waters above the sky or see into the third heaven. Only two people have had this vision Ezekiel and Paul.
My whole point was that Genesis 1 does not tell us how everything was made - it doesn't really tell us how anything was made, only that God spoke and it happened.
So you can't tell me, from Genesis 1, HOW birds' feathers, fish scales, skin, fur, bones and so on were created. Our how God made the human brain, spine and nervous system. This is a simple fact; Genesis 1 simply does not say those things. I think the statement was made, "there is no mention of the universe in Genesis 1". No, there isn't. There is no mention of the human brain either, so presumably that means that you don't have one.

And your comment about saying that Jesus isn't enough because we look to biology textbooks for biological information and not the Bible, was ridiculous and unnecessary.

No mention of the word planet in the Bible either.
There doesn't need to be.
There is no mention of the word "computer" in the Bible, but you're using one. "Wales" is not mentioned in the Bible, but you live there. Hundreds of other words are not "mentioned" in the Bible - yet the things they refer to/describe exist, they were made by God and you see, use, wear or benefit from them.

What's your point?

King James Bible
I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.
What's that got to do with heaven, and what's your question about the location of heaven got to do with the fact that something can exist without being mentioned in Genesis 1?
Changing the subject again, I see.

Science is a system of the world
Science comes from the Latin meaning knowing, or knowledge.
How do people learn about the world? Through study, investigation, experimenting etc.
We all do it all the time. A child will learn that water can be hot, if they put their fingers under the tap after Mum has said "no". They will learn that fire burns, that earth doesn't taste nice, that they can pull the petals off daisies, that if they try to catch a fish with their hands a) it is difficult and they might fall in, b) that fish are slippery and will wriggle away and c) if they manage it and leave them out of water while they go to do something else, the fish will die. People discover when they get a new car/camera/phone and say "now let's see what this thing can do".
The Bible does not speak favorably of the world.
The Bible says a) do not conform to the pattern of the world; don't think, and behave, like people who don't know God and the Truth. Even in the OT the Hebrew slaves were told not to marry anyone outside Israel, or who did not share their faith. They believed there was only one God; other countries believed there were many. In time, these other gods began to contaminate the faith and challenge the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. The people had been ruled by judges who were appointed by God. That wasn't good enough for them and they wanted a king to be like everybody else, 1 Samuel 8:5. We are called to be holy - separate - and not like everybody else. And b) the Bible tells us not to love the world - its values, desire for money and power, its beliefs that what you achieve matters and gives you your worth. We are not to behave like that because Jesus didn't - and because wealth and qualifications do not define us.

This doesn't mean that we cannot have, use, wear, live in or benefit from anything designed/invented by a non-Christian.

Not sure why any believer in Jesus would accept science worldly creation beliefs about God's creation.
Because God has given us the ability to discover, to know, to ask questions.
The Bible does not tell us how anything was made; we discover that by looking it up or consulting experts who do know and have discovered. Some of these may be, or have been, Christians.
