Hello, first off I believe in God. I've been to church, Bible study, had random runins with other Christians, etc. However, I really enjoy music. And not the lighthearted good kind, I'm into more darker music. It's a passion of mine and Ive met others who feel the same on this. If you feel that means I'm not a Christian, I hate when that happens, thats very judgemental

So sometimes I get sleep paralysis. If you don't know what it is, it's where something panics you and you try to wake up, even if you manage to you are literally stuck and cant move for some time.

This was one of those nights it was more intense. I had a dream I was having a heart attack. I was trying to get up to call 911. I dreamt I finally got up and went to my door and my mom and dad walked through it. He was in a tuxedo and she in a wedding dress(theyve never been married and aren't together) My dad and I aren't currently speaking but he was trying to comfort me and had this demeanour on him like he knew it was gonna happen.

I got up and seen out my window three shirtless guys running up to my apartment and got up ran to the door to lock it and I woke up.

The creepiest part is when I woke up id fallen asleep listening to music, and I heard gutteral moans and groans. I listened back to the song and it wasn't on there, I was actually hearing it.

I opened my phone and a video with the thumbnail said "Now you know what happened... Do not be worried though"

I then got up and watched a beautiful sunrise. I wasnt worried. I just knew what couldve happened if i hadn't been communicating with the Lord like I've been now for some time.

I wouldn't say that listening to dark music means you're not a Christian. But it's probably un-Christian. As Christians we can be involved in activities that aren't befitting or beneficial to being a Christian.
We can't just assume that all secular artists aren't saved. Not everyone is called to sing holy happy songs, that'd be incredibly boring, wouldn't reach as many people as well.

There are also many different tribes, not just one.

But yeah music is my main joy in life and as much as I've tried to listen to worship music I can never ever get into it. I've prayed about it and everything many many times its not my thing. And then I met people in life who share my interest in the same artists and that was awesome

I listen to secular music. But I keep in mind that it's not designed for me as a Christian. And I set limits on what kind of music I listen to. It's like eating. I set limits on what all I eat because I know it's unhealthy not to.

Yeah that's understandable. Granted I listen to some music that freaks other Christians out. Then again I've had Christians try and force me to listen to worship. It's like we're unable to find common ground.

I get to certain points where I'm like okay enough, and I'll try and listen to a Christian radio station.. it just never works out for long

It then reminds me of a craft. Lifting weights for example. How you gonna get better if you quit? So I figure just go all out with what I like. I know I'm good with God.

I used to often have sleep paralysis for many years

But in the last several years, I got better and quicker at escaping sleep paralysis each time I had sleep paralysis until I stopped having those experiences altogether.

At a certain point, I even started enjoying sleep paralysis because it presented itself as a challenge that needs to be overcome.

Fasting helps a ton. Turn it into a regular thing.

I still listen to metal rock. Modern bands like Killswitch Engage, fire from the gods where their lyrics are either positive or with hard-hitting truth in them. Otherwise "clean" lyrics.

The dream appears to be a warning. It possibly speaks of the real you in danger of dying. Appears you are on a similar path that your father was on...

There is some great advice here. Music can be a powerful influencer. It is spiritual food so you want to be careful with what you are feeding your soul.

No worries, just heed the warning.

Ask God to give you love for his food to nourish your soul

Is sleep paralysis the result of spiritual attack? | GotQuestions.org There are some physical issues that might cause this or it can be demonic. I know that i got deliverance from this and bad nightmares as well. Given that you associate with dark music you might be opening the door as well. I don't think that God condemns you but why not try some Christian music before you sleep?

Sleep paralysis is actually a demonic attack. It happened to my husband. He was being strangled and couldn't talk and when he cried out in his mind the name "Jesus" it left instantly. I've read about the same thing happening to a missionary. When she rebuked it she said it disappeared in little lights. When you listen to dark music it can open the door for demonic activity, which is what is happening in your case. I would ask the Lord to change your desire to music that glorifies Him and will help you grow closer to HIm.

I have. Many times. I like what I like and what I relate to.. Christian music is basically repetitive boring affirmations.. like I get it already, ya know.

I've always loved music and certain artists are really good at expressing things, there is much to be learned there.

What I'm asking God now is for people to stop being so closed minded.

I don't see people being close minded. I zee people trying to help you because you talking about heart attacks and these voices. We are not close minded, but wise. You eant to call that judgemental then you have the bigger problem.

Have you considered that you may be the close minded one.

I listen to secular music. Love Marc Anthony, and love disco... but once i sense music is negatively affecting me, i change it.

There is even some Christian music that negatively affects me. They may work for some but when a Christian song points to me and my problems it just puts the focus on me. When God has moved in my life with music it has been when a song is glorifying him talking about him how wonderful he is how beautiful he is how holy he is, those songs move me in his Spirit.

The other Christian songs may work for others, but for me the ones that work for me are the ones that focus on God and how wonderful and beautiful and loving he is.

And just because you like something doesn't make it good for you.

I do know what you mean though. The christian music that you've run into doesn't engage your heart... I'm sure if you continued you will find some that do.

When i feel down or distressed i like to turn to the book of psalms because i can often relate to the psalmist's cry and it helps fill my soul and not feel alone in my condition. I can make some into prayers too, raising my voice up with the psalmist's to the throne of God.

Music works different for me. Music that puts the focus on how wonderful God is instead of my situation is where i find him moving me in Spirit...yet the psalmist also ends with the wonder of God when He is distressed too.

The problem is not that you are turning to secular music to relate, but of your own admission it is dark music that you are engaging in, and it is apparent to me by what you've experienced that the Lord is trying to show you the road it is taking you down.

There are other good music that you can relate to and enjoy without being dark.

It's not a matter of being close minded in my case. I have had a lot of experience with these things and the devil can use music and even other forms of entertainment as vehicles with with to inhabit and influence people. You need to bring this before God and ask Him to help change your desire for things that are not of Him. You need to spend a lot of time drawing closer to the Lord in prayer and reading scripture. He can change you you can't change yourself or your desires, you only have to be willing to let Him change you into the person He wants you to be. Have you listened to Alice Coopers music? He is a Christian and the music he is producing now has Christian themes.

Have you checked out Jesus Culture. I love them. Not all their music does it for me, but some are so awesome. I'll post a couple.

Ok, so I'm Latina so love some music with Latin flavor too...nothing boring about it in my book, but to each his own...

If you tell me that's boring going to check you for.a heartbeat. But rock and roll may be more to your liking. I'm sure there are some nice rock and roll Christian songs

And nothing wrong with clean secular music of itself, just showing how not all Christian music is boring. Some wonderful music out there

@Jo555 I apologize, I didn't mean to be rude calling people close minded. I guess I just feel persecuted a lot for it when it doesnt seem necessary.

I've had the worst times of my life coincidentally I had been listening to worship music for years in an attempt to get closer to Jesus. I was literally going through mental/verbal abusive/chaotic situations during the time.

Last night for example I put on a video about God like I sometimes do(those are easier for me to get into) and just got made fun of by everyone in the room lol. It's just strange.
