Cheap but accurate compasses.
Handheld or mounted?

A compass is not something you buy each week, so why not take it as an investment ,

Best is a compass that is steady that does not swing all over the place .

Similar threads are posted in other sub0forums on this site, and I think this type of a thread is perfect for this sub-forum.

What is currently on my mind? Thinking I should finish up the 3rd season of Cobra Kai tonight. The show is good thus far, nothing ground breaking but it's competent and does the job. Ironically I've never seen any of the Karate Kid films.
My son loves that show! Well, let's see.
Here's one for ya. "Why was the chicken too afraid to cross the road?"

Lensatic, and cheap because because I don't want to outlay a lot of money for something used occasionally. Lensatic because they get along with glasses better than a sight-through. Orienteering are some of the cheapest and I prefer them for use with a map, but are harder to take a bearing with. Have a now expensive sight-through compass that I keep the magnetic declination current on, but have to take off my glasses to use and expensive means I want to treat it like fine jewelry. Also have a now antique surplus transit compass that I also keep the magnetic declination current on and use occasionally, but it's not something I'd want to haul around. Look up Brunton and transit compass and you'll see what the new ones go for.

I am intrigued enough by inexpensive knock-off transit compasses that I'm thinking of trying one just to evaluate

Back to lensatic compasses. Ideally one would have a straight edge for easier use with maps. The rounded compasses are more difficult to use. With a compass with a straight edge, you can put the map on the ground, align to north (northern hemisphere), set the bearing you need to take to a waypoint, and go. Unfortunately, the cheap ones like this tend to be really cheap and are neither fluid nor induction dampened, and they can bind.

Intressting.

I only have experience from marin gear, magnetic, gyro and come to think of it, on smaller ships we always steered by points not degrees.

Mine is just the terrestrial stuff. At work, used one to triangulate poles not noted on highway plans we had to mark with our facilities. Since the overhead line could throw off the bearing, I took a bearing of the line, then a bearing to the pole, and used the difference. For that, declination didn't matter.

I'm finalizing a trip to CA for my uncle's 99th birthday. But darn it, he's only my uncle by marriage--I have none of his DNA. This'll be my first flight since Covid. The outbound planes are 737-800s. The return legs are on 737 MAX8s. It was a MAX9 that lost the door in flight. I'm not a superstitious person, but I'll go for an aisle seat. And keep the seat belt tight.

Is it just me, or has customer service taken a serious nosedive? I've been having to do a lot of errands recently, and it's depressing seeing the low-quality of service in not just one but multiple places.

On-line customer service can be very trying.

I have 1,000 SEK floating around somewhere, I ordered a product and paid through a finance company this was in March this year.

The company I ordered from say to contact the finance company, yet when I check my e-mails both say I have paid in full.

But have not recieved the product.

I have contacted both their customers service and after hours of trying I just gave up, It was just going round in circles.

Today took the cake though, last week bought an umbrella at a store, today it was raining so I took it with me, I bought some items for batteries

to save time I went to the selfscanner, scanned the items and went to their cafe, while drink
ing my coffee a security guard came to me and said

one of the staff had seen me tear off the price tagg and thereby stealing it. (the umbrella)

She, the security person said I should pay for it otherwise she would call the police.

I blew my top, we can all make a mstake but when someone lies, saying they saw me tear off the prce tagg when there was no price tagg to tear off,

I bought it in the same store last week.

After much a do, too much to write here, she came over to me and apoligized,

She refused to tell me who it was that had lied, as well was, I would have made myself unhappy on him.

I think most movies stink anymore. I want to see the Beetlejuice sequel but not sure I will go to the theater. It probably stinks as well.
seems like someones always putting a certain colorful agenda into about every movie these days .
Its depressing to see all this .
