  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

You forget that she's now the one who wants to change the debate rules (again) by having open mics when it's not the other person's turn to speak
Allowing your debate opponent to speak?

Dastardly, I call it!

Except when a democrat is the one who didn't want to allow Trump to speak.
"Oh, but that's different because reasons!"

No. It is not.

I look forward to a debate between Walz and Vance. (They are the people mentioned in the originating post. Perhaps we should return to the topic.)

Trump's running out of time. And he's thrashing around, whining about race and Joe Biden. And his sentencing is coming up Sept 18 It might help him with his base, but it will damage him with the undecided, at the worst possible time.

Is he really?
Yep. Even people supporting him are telling him to "stop whining" and get to something of substance that will make people want to vote for him.

As Trump fumes, Republicans wince at ‘public nervous breakdown’

Republicans are reeling from Trump’s undisciplined approach to the opening stages of his race against Harris.
It didn’t last. By midday, the former president was already back to re-litigating his controversial appearance in Chicago last week, where he questioned Kamala Harris’ Black identity and suggested a major network journalist should be fired — “I didn’t know who she was, she was nasty,” he told a livestreamer. And if Trump had an opening to hit Harris on the economy, it was unclear even to leaders of his own party if he could sustain it.

Republicans on Monday reeled from Trump’s undisciplined approach to the opening stages of his new general election matchup with Harris — following a weekend that saw him praise Russian leader Vladimir Putin while smearing Harris as “low IQ,” and “dumb” and attacking a popular swing-state GOP governor whose turnout operation he may need in November.

He's aged a lot since he lost the 2000 election, and his confused blathering is alarming even Trump loyalists.

In the meantime, where's kamala?
Just counting on pep rallies and the MSM to support her no matter what won't last until Nov. 5th, and certainly not for 4 years.

I think that bears repeating. The criticism that Biden was aging struck a chord with American voters who thought they sere stuck with two geriatric candidates. The Democratic Party acted decisively. Now there is only one.

Trump is too old. Bill Clinton is younger than him.

Attacking someone because of their age is not very democratic.

Well, Bill looks a little tired, too. As Trump's buddy, Howard Stern predicted, being president was really bad for his mental health. He's aged, looks confused much of the time and seems incapable of accepting that he's not going to get a rematch with the guy who beat him.

What, that's only a thing Republicans are allowed to do?

It is not an attack; it is factually correct and exactly the criticism leveled at Biden.

What is undemocratic about it?
Apparently, it's not nice to comment on Trump's mental decline. And it probably isn't. But it matters.

When you actually listen to JD Vance tackle interviews. The guy is really good. I've heard a couple of them now and man, he is better than Trump! The guy is clear and his points are spot on. He's a great choice for Trump. I just wish more people heard him.

That's incorrect. What was leveled at Biden wasn't his age. It was his incompetence and inability to do the job due to his mental decline. Which apparently the Democrats agreed with. He wasn't capable mentally.

Big difference.

Republicans don't. That's why it's hypocritical for those identifying as democrat to do it after accusing their opponents of doing what they themselves do.

Democrats had been the ones complaining about it. Not very democratic to actually do it after complaining about it. Right? Right???

It's a stuttering problem. He's had to deal with that all his life. It's not something to mock someone for.

“Hannibal Lecter, how great an actor was he?” said Trump in a mix-up between the fictional character’s name and Anthony Hopkins, the actor who played the cannibal in the 1991 film.
“You know why I like him? Because he said on television on one of the – ‘I love Donald Trump.’ So I love him. I love him. I love him. He said that a long time ago and once he said that, he was in my camp, I was in his camp. I don’t care if he was the worst actor, I’d say he was great to me.”

Apparently, he thinks that's Anthony Hopkins' real name. Hopkins, BTW, doesn't like Trump.

Did Trump start talking about Hannibal Lecter because he doesn’t know what asylum means?

The idea that Trump started connecting migrants to Hannibal Lecter because he did not know that there are two meanings of the word asylum — protection a nation grants to political refugees or an institution for mentally ill people — has been gaining traction on social media:
...
A year later, at CPAC in March 2024, Trump name-dropped Hannibal Lecter. This didn’t get any attention because he didn’t say anything about the villain; he just shouted his name and continued ranting about illegal immigration:

He's just getting more and more weird; as his buddy Howard Stern predicted, being president would not be good for his mental health.
he was a bit more explicit in the aslyum meaning recently talking about insane people and such being sent here from aslyum's or such.

ahhhh so why did the right and trump do it to biden for years?

And don't say signs of dementia, who can't remember where he is, who keeps mentioning fictional chars, who is the one that is such a snowflake he can't handle being attacked like he has for 8 years others.

yeah, it's funny how suddenly it's undemocratic, or rude, or such to use the same tactics trump used for 8 years against him. What a snowflake.
