  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The printing press was very primitive back then as in the way they set the print. They had to use text blocks, align it right, then put it all backwards. Then they would print it, this would be the whole 73 books. There will be certifiably mistakes.

Though this is not the same as the intentional removal of verses into footnotes or other things in the new versions.

The Geneva is also on the Calvinist side.

They are teaching the wrong salvation, calvinisim is wrong, and please look into this.

Also, Wescott and Hortt would def be a false teacher according to those questions to check as they denied all that.

I have looked into it many times as I was a member of a Southern Baptist church for many years, who follow John Calvin's teachings. The five points of Calvinism (TULIP) are merely opinions based on their understanding of Scripture. They certainly never told me that I needed to also believe them on these 5 points to be saved or attend their church. They could be right. They certainly think they are. I personally hope that they are NOT right about God choosing whom He wants to be saved and that our will has nothing to do with it. I want to believe the Scriptures that point out that Jesus died for EVERYONE and that EVERYONE has a chance to be saved if they will only believe in Jesus as their Lord and Savior. It's really that simple on purpose. The man on the cross is a good example. He lived his entire life in sin and at the last minute, he believed, and Jesus said that he would be with him in paradise. He wasn't taken down off the cross to be baptised, he didn't attend church, or even witness to anyone, yet he is today in heaven with the Lord.

Wow! Pricey. Even the used ones are $110. Don't think the "common man" or "common woman" would be willing to pay this much for a Bible when there are other options available that are less pricey. Please share why you recommend this one over an NASB study Bible. I own an NASB New Open Study Bible, only costs $27 on Amazon for imitation leather, leather cover is $67. Also has a 4.5-star rating with over 600 reviews. I have the leather bound one, it was a gift from my late husband. It has been my friend for over 33 years. A bit tattered, but an excellent Bible choice. Great study notes, concordance, maps, archeological discoveries of the 20th century, extensive topical index (over 300 pages). Even available in large print.

The NASB version was recommended by an old friend who passed in 2012, Peter Barnes, one of the top theologians in San Diego. His Bible studies were always packed out, especially when he taught on the Book of Revelation. Many of his studies were in people's homes. At one home, couldn't get all the people inside the house, so people sat out in the yard and listened through the opened windows. Peter Barnes was an amazing Bible teacher that I was blessed to know and learn the Bible from as a friend, and his wife Ada, for over 30 years. I taped many of his lessons, then made a YT channel for him after he died to carry on his teachings. You can find him by searching on YT "Peter Barnes Revelation". Peter was a Jehovah's Witness (JW) for over 30 years in England and was an overseer for a large area. Peter taught himself Greek and Hebrew so that he could understand the true meanings of the Scriptures. He basically had the Bible memorized. When he realized the true meanings of Scripture, the distorted views of the Watchtower Society were exposed. He and Ada got saved and got out of the JW organization and moved to America. Peter started a ministry to help other JWs be set free as well. I actually watched him deprogram my friend who had been a JW for 18 years! I was shocked at how successful they were at brainwashing her into believing utter nonsense and she is a very intelligent woman. Peter said once at a Bible study that the NASB was the closest English translation to the original Scriptures. I believe him.

Thanks so much for sharing that. Sounds like a nice friend of yours. I am going to stick with the KJV as older does not necessarily equate to better. From my independant research`, KJV sounds to be the most trustworthy as you can get for being an English trasnlation from the Textus Receptus.

As much as I like the idea of owning the common man's refeence Bible, it is also just one of a few KJV Bibles I am interested in right now. I am monitoring it to look out for price drops or if somes up being sold elsewhere for cheaper.

I do plan on getting a Strong's Concordance. It looks like a very useful tool to navigate with. On my wishlits is also a facsimile of the 1828 Webster's dictionary to use.

Understand. You gotta have a good concordance. I have the Strong's Concordance. It has helped me so many times from believing the wrong thing. A worthwhile investment for sure.

I would highly against the Strong's Concordance and just let the Bible define it self. I find it quite useful, I did use a 1828 before.

Strong's is biased towards the critical text and as shown here in the American Standard Version: the worship is denoted as to a creature not to the creator.

Interesting. Looked this up in my Strong's Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible, I don't see this. Thank you for the info, I'll check it out.

I was under the impression that I could use teh concordance to reference words, their meaning, across the entirety of the Bible.

I would recommend that you be careful about calling people false teachers. They may be incorrect about a few things, such as when the rapture happens, but this does not make them a false teacher. Even Calvin, whom I don't agree with 100% (maybe 70%), said that no theologian is ever more than 80% right. MacAurthor, whom I respect, but only agree with about 80% said that he would identify a false teacher as someone who is teaching incorrectly on the basic tenants of God's Word as Truth such as denying the Trinity, denying the diety of Christ, denying His sinless life and substitutionary death, denying salvation by grace, and denying the Gospel. He states that these things are NOT negotiable. I would have to agree with him on this.
But what did the bible say .
OH i know many men try and teach that leaders and prophets aint always right .
The ones in the bible SURE Seemed to be . I speak not o their actions but of their words .
There are a lot of false teachers out there . WHILE i do agree with you about not all are false .
Because i know some teachers and etc can stumble at times and just need to be corrected .
But these leaders i see are often corrected and rather than repenting , they double down their stance on the lie they do bring .
And not only that but a lot more leaders than you realize
within the church NOW no longer even teach the true gospel at all . They teach rather another idea
that contradicts EVEN the GOSPEL of JESUS the CHRIST .
I do understand your point dear sister . BUt i would say this
even myself in the beginning would not dare to even call one false .
All i knew was something seemed off , but IN the BIBLE GOD kept me .
As time went on and as i learned more and more
I soon discerned , OH DEAR we got us a serious problem . Many teach for hire , for reward
for gain , they prophesy lies unto the people and many seem to love to have it so .

Of course I agree that there are a lot of false teachers out there, some more convincing than others, and some who know they are false teachers, such as the Pharasees and Saducees in Jesus' time, so we gotta be careful. I too became more and more descerning as I grew in my faith and in what Scripture teaches. Sometimes, I'd be in a Bible class or church where I knew more than the teacher and would be a bit frustrated that they were off on some of the things they taught. But, I still would not call them a false teacher unless they were knowingly and deliberately trying to deceive. I know of many false teachers here in my town, but I don't attend those churches or studies.

A quick trivia question . now this question will help us to think about to remind us about false teachers .
When the phraisees questioned JESUS .
When JESUS questioned them . Who did they think was false and what did JESUS call them .
What did they say to JESUS . WE have ONE FATHER . IT IS GOD .
and what else did they say to him . say we not well that you have a devil .
What did JESUS say to them and about them to his own also .
Jesus told them you are of your father the devil . He said that . and they though he had the devil
and that they WERE OF GOD and GOD was their father .
What else did JESUS warn his own . THE TIME will come when they who persecute you and even KILL you
will ACTUALLY BELIEVE they DO , whose will . GODS WILL .
oh folks sure can believe they follow GOD when in truth its not GOD at all they be following.
Just a friendly reminder that not all wolves come with teeth . most come with smiles and hugs
and actually believe they DO FOLLOW GOD , when in truth its not GOD OR HIS CHRIST they follow .
Just keep that in mind dear sister . But i do hear what you are saying my dear sister and friend .

If I am not mistaken, you are saying the Charles Stanley and others have led a life of false testimony that actually paved a road to hell for them?

I'm just trying to understand because it throws me in awe as I never thought of Charles Stanley as a falase teacher and all of this is news to me. I am not as well versed in such matters even thought I try to be and am constantly learning.

Pull the reigns my friend . Did i say charles or did i not say HIS son andy .
I said andy stanley . deadly and dangerous that man has become . very nice though , but wolves do come with lots of smiles .
I never said a word one about charles stanley . Andy . Very deceptive that one is my friend . With
many smiles and seemily kind and loving words that man has led his church astray big time .
And he works not alone . there are many in this last hour that work as one to transform from within the church
to lead it to whom they believe is GOD but IT AINT GOD at all . facts are facts . We bess bible up my dear dear friend .
But remember i never said one word for or against charles stanley . It was ANDY i warned about .

Thanks for clearing that up. Very much appreciated. It was really throwing me off. I started thinking well, is everyone wrong about everything?
