Also the idea of a simulated prison experience was the plot of an episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (“Hard Time”, in which Chief Miles O’Brien, wrongly convicted for a crime, is forcibly given memories of spending 30 years in prison), and even before that had appeared in literary SF.

If we had the technology to do this in terms of virtual reality, there is no way governments would be buying it for purposes of judicial punishment, rather, it would be being used for a combination of video gaming and shall we say adult-oriented activities.
Can I just say, I love Star Trek: DS9. That episode was good (watched it in June or July of 2024), and I will be starting season 6. I am not joining this thread cos I stay out of the conspiracy thread. Just joined for this one time or so, cos I found another Trekkie. :) But yes, VR prisons would probably be used for gaming purposes, or some weird stuff.

Woo, Trekkie Christians unite.

I agree and I’m glad that it’s been noticed. I see no purpose in repeating or cultivating what’s already been seen in entertainment. It amazes me what some of these conspiracy sites put out as if it were breaking news and people gobble it up. You should have read some of the stuff posted here before the eclipse! Lol

Have you not seen Season 6 or Season 7?

All I can say if that’s the case is you are in for a treat…

Those two seasons were the apex of DS9 for me, even better than the epic two and three part episodes from Season 2 and Season 3 about the Cardassian-backed coup attempt on Bajor (“The Circle parts 1, 2 and 3) and the discovery of the Founders, (The Jem’hadar parts 1 and 2 and The Search), the accidental time travel to 2024, in Past Tense, parts 1 and 2 (directed by Jonathan Frakes, who also appeared in the episode Defiant) which fortunately is not as bad as depicted insofar as we lack sanctuary districts and have a much better Internet with decent computers instead of dumb terminals that work like a glorified television with a credit card reader, and the failed attempt of the Cardassians and Romulans to destroy their homeworld (Improbable Cause and its sequel, the lesson there in part being genocide doesn’t pay)…

If i had to list every good episode from Season 6 and 7, it would include the majority of episodes from both seasons. There are only a few of the problematic isolated episodes that feel too much like TNG or Voyager and constitute far too much of the earlier seasons.

I will see S6 this week. :) No spoilers please, but I did watch the 2024 time travel episode (Season 4, I believe).

Like I said, you are in for a treat. It’s my favorite Star Trek alongside the very best episodes of the Original Series, TNG and the six TOS films with the original cast and the gorgeous refit Enterprise with its streamlined bridge consoles and later, on the Enterprise-A, the gorgeous graphics designed by Mike Okuda) and such villains as Khan Noonien Singh, (the genetically engineered Sikh despot who ruled a quarter of the Earth in the 1990s and who featured in the thrilling original series episode “Space Seed” played in both that episode and Star Trek II by the very refined and elegant Mexican actor Ricardo Montalban), Kruge (a terrifying Klingon played by Christopher Lloyd), and Chang (Christopher Plummer’s Shakespeare-quoting Klingon hardliner, who also quotes Adlai Stevenson at one point).

I love the Okudagrams. :) But yes, I have to get through these ones. I have watched TNG in 2013-14, TOS in 2014 or so, VOY in ~2014 or 2015 and ENT in 2017. It is funny how some of the Star Trek episodes discuss the 1990s or 2020s as being in the future, when both decades are either in the past, or currently are happening.

The Bell Riots will happen in September 2024. We have to do something on that day.

I watched that episode a few times already. Ironically, "Hard Time" is hard to watch.

As word of caution, the episode has "trigger" potential to those with PTSD. There are many other "trigger" episodes in DS9 and is hands down, the most emotionally-charged series in the Star Trek franchise and yet, my favorite.

Which part gave you the PTSD, and where did you get your PTSD from, if I may ask? Yes, that episode was very dark, and reminds me of the state of the world in our actual 2024.

Prayers that your PTSD may subside.

The part when he killed his "friend" and the part when he became hostile to his family. I've had quite a few traumatic episodes in my life where I'm directly to blame or I blame myself and long term financial difficulties makes me triggered more easily.

I can watch similar dramas but DS9's Hard Time takes it to the next level of being difficult to watch for people with PTSD.

Otherwise, I feel fine most of the time and my ECG indicates "low stress" most of the time. I prefer watching comedies and sci-fi these days if I can find them. I also like watching modern war-movies. I never been a soldier but somehow, I seem to connect with the strong emotions portrayed in war films.

Yeah, that is a little dark. DS9 is probably one of the darker Trek shows in my opinion. Which real-world events have impacted you? Has a friend or family member betrayed you?

It is good that you are low stress, most of the time. For a modern made war movie, I recommend 1917. It is a 2019 movie by Sam Mendes, by the same director as James Bond: Skyfall. Set during WWI.

1917 info:

I wasn't betrayed by any family member nor any past friends. It think it was the opposite. Perhaps that would explain further why DS9 is my favorite. They have plenty of characters in DS9 who betrayed their own.

What could be worse than being betrayed is to betray the people who are close to you.

1917 info:

I watched it last month and thoroughly enjoyed it! This month, I watched "Greyhound" with Tom Hanks and then a few days ago, "Midway" with Ed Skrein.

I also like watching war-movie styled alien-invasion movies.

Ironically, if I am still in my early 30's today I might have signed up for IDF to get some battlefield training and experience. They don't accept volunteers above 40 years of age. Ukraine accepts foreign volunteers of any age as long as you're physically fit which I am but you have to pay getting yourself to Ukraine and processing of Visas and I can't afford it.

I'm not in favor of the Israeli war campaign but I would have joined if given the chance but it would be strictly to get combat experience only. To be honest, I'd much prefer fighting for Ukraine even if survivability is far lower than with IDF.

Ironically, this "Cognify AI" isn't just for virtual prison sentence. It can also be used to implant memories for rehabilitation of soldiers with PTSD. However, the potential for evil use is just far too severe, it's better this tech never to be invented or even banned.

I was not partaking in this discussion for Cognify AI, just for the Star Trek. Cognify AI should be banned, or at least regulated for good use only, or open-sourced. But yes, it is good that you watched 1917.

Also, I do hope that you did not betray your friends or family, and if so, I will pray for you and your close ones. Hey, if you want to partake in the war, without fighting, you could always donate food or money to the soldiers. :)

Agreed. My friend went to San Fran a few weeks too early for that. Ahh, that reminds me. I will probably get the last season of Deep Space 9 done before September 1, 2024 (the start date of the Bell Riots). :)

Good, you’ll have an excuse to backtrack. I actually watched DS9 out of order and there are a couple of episodes I have not seen or abandoned viewing due to lameness, and a couple more *cough Move Along Home cough* I wished I had skipped.

I always watch them in order. But yes, some episodes are boring, especially the ones about Quark and Ferenginar.

Oh yes. On the other hand, I dig the episodes about Bajoran politics, especially The Circle, where Jarro Essa collaborated with Vedek Wynn, and, unwittingly, the Cardassians, to attempt a coup to force Starfleet of off Deep Space Nine. That episode in part happened because the antagonist, played uncredited by Frank Langella, was urged by his kids to appear on Star Trek, and he is a great actor. Also it featured Richard Beymer, who played the father from Twin Peaks (I won’t spoil the show for those who haven’t seen it) as a Bajoran war hero. And Vedek Bareil was a brilliantly hieratic character. Its such a shame he didn’t replace Kai Opaka.

I do not follow the actors names, but follow the plot and the characters. I liked Vedek Bareil. Bajoran politics was good. That episode was a few months ago for me, like four or five seasons ago. :)

Alas Voyager and Enterprise are less pleasant (I feel a bit like the handsome literal devil in a film about a man who dies explaining with regret the nature of the other place, which the protagonist ultimately does not qualify for a visa for and instead is sent up to Heaven, in an elevator. This was a classic comedy from the 1940s, black and white, I can’t remember the name, but I can look it up. I think it was the first to feature a soteriological or should i say eschatological elevator. Later Looney Tunes introduced the eschatological escalator). Although some individual episodes are awesome. I am also one of about five known Star Trek watchers who enjoyed “Threshold.” But not enough to compensate for the distilled morbidity of “Emanations”, which is seriously the most morbidly morose episode in the history of Star Trek, with its thanatologists and cenotaphs, which Switzerland has now replicated for real, yuck. But at least Emanations is not pro-euthanasia, if anything its the most anti-euthanasia TV show I’ve ever seen, and I feel like some of the problems Canadians are having since having legalized doctor-assisted homicide were predicted by it. So I would recommend it as an inadvertently pro-life episode.

Its odd how despite Roddenberry’s professed humanism, we see this Christian substrate in Star Trek, including in episodes he wrote, such as Bread and Circuses, which is highly complimentary of Christianity, to put it mildly.

It is cool how Star Trek and secular shows such as Looney Tunes (a 1940s classic) reveal God somehow. I do believe that God can sometimes speak through secular media, in just the right way to reach Christians. Threshold was a weird, but cool episode about that Warp 10 journey that the show seems to forget. Anyways, it is getting late here, but yes, Canada and far-left wing stuff is demonic, a culture of death.

God bless, brother. Talk in the near future. :)
