  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

‘He cut his own ear’: Left goes all in on Trump shooting conspiracy theories

As most of the country expressed outrage that a shooter could come within an inch of killing a former president and current GOP nominee, left-wing corners of the internet rushed to watch old video of Donald Trump making appearances at pro wrestling matches.

The theory was that Mr. Trump staged the shooting, cut his own ear to draw blood, then emerged with a raised fist to savor unwarranted adulation.

Never mind the emergency room doctors, the former White House physician, photos capturing a bullet in midair, and even The New York Times’ analysis of audio and video footage concluding that Mr. Trump suffered a gunshot wound.

Stanley Renshon, a political scientist and psychoanalyst at the City University of New York’s Lehman College, said it’s all fueled by a Trump obsession that has consumed so many voters for nearly a decade.

“It’s all a part of the same psychology, which is Trump hatred, which will leave no stone unturned to blacken his name,” said Mr. Renshon.

Most of the country, and the Democratic Party leaders, know that this
is a FALSE conspiracy theory. AND, they have spoken out clearly
against this sort of lawless violence. This includes Biden and Harris.

(In contrast, Trump continues to repeat, openly, in campaigning,
falsehoods that all sorts of journalists have demonstrated to be false.
See the fact checking threads on Donald Trump, that are included
in this section on Current Events.)

Note that in the articles that I include in this section, about Current
Events, I NEVER include articles from sources that assert unique
explanations/theories, that the majority of news sources in America
think are FALSE or "pants on fire" lying. This includes Fox News,
which is a major seller of conspiracy theories, BUT it ALSO includes
articles by all sorts of groups that I think fall into the category of
"fruitcake" opinions, and which do not agree with the conclusions
of the weight of American journalists.

I regularly read from about 20 news sources, and regularly reject
articles that may seem sensational, but do not agree with the majority
opinion on the major news feed.

...and then we have the Wrays of the world.

House Speaker Mike Johnson on Thursday pushed back against FBI Director Christopher Wray’s testimony before the House Judiciary Committee that former President Donald Trump may not have been hit directly with a bullet during the attempt on his life at a rally in Pennsylvania.

This is THE ONLY place I've heard this strange "conspiracy"

Unfortunately, I’ve seen it tossed around in my circles more than I care to admit. I’m not sure how seriously anybody takes it, but some of the dumber, more partisan folks have repeated it.

Wray wasn’t saying he wasn’t hit by anything, just that they weren’t sure what it was.

Your link says it's a "subscriber only" article, so I can't read the details, but the does the article mention the prevalence of this conspiracy theory?

Because if it's merely based on a couple hundred tweets (and a few of them getting retweeted a few hundred times to make the hashtag "trending"), that's not really a solid indicator that this belief is widely held among the left.

One also has to factor in that retweeting is also done in the name of mocking an idea. So if someone makes a zany tweet, and I were to retweet it and a caption of "Look at what this idiot said", it counts as a retweet the same as someone who's actually doing it because they support the idea.

Is there any indicator that this conspiracy is held by left at rates as high as, say, the 28% of the left that believed that Bush was behind 9/11? Or the percentage of the right that thought that Bill Gates was trying to poison people with vaccines? Or is this just a tiny percentage of fringe people?

IME, it’s not as popular or as seriously taken as any of those, but it’s definitely got some amount of traction.

Well considering that a bullet was fired at his head; and a bullet was caught on camera, whizzing toward his head; and members of the audience were struck by bullets that missed his head; and his doctor treated him for a gunshot wound; it doesn't take a crackerjack detective to deduce that it was a bullet.

Oh, thank you for your expert forensic testimony based on nothing more than what you saw on youtube.

Please tell me how you know that he was hit by a bullet and not by shrapnel from the bullet hitting another object first.

I agree (believe it or not), but there was some legitimate discussion of it maybe having been shrapnel from a bullet striking a teleprompter. In some photos of the scene taken from behind the podium, one of the teleprompters appears damaged. Considering the nature of the OP, I think that debate is a far cry from claims of the whole thing being staged.

So, the proper title of the thread should be

‘He cut his own ear’: Left This one poster on an obscure internet forum I am moderator of goes all in on Trump shooting conspiracy theoriesy.

And I don't think I've ever even browsed that sub-forum before.

How would you fit this into the title?:

WA mayor suggests Trump faked own assassination attempt: ‘We will never know if it was staged’

ABERDEEN, Wash. - Aberdeen Mayor Douglas Orr made international news after posting on Facebook suggesting that former President Donald Trump faked his own assassination attempt.

‘Staged’: Left-wing conspiracies about Trump shooting persist against evidence

The word “staged” trended on X as Trump-haters reached for alternate explanations for his bloodied face.

After the initial wave of skepticism cooled down, FBI Director Christopher A. Wray breathed new life with his testimony to Congress last week in which he seemed to question Mr. Trump’s account of a bullet.

So, the mayor of a Washington town, some anonymous people on X (formerly known as Twitter) and some random dude on this forum constitute "The Left"? And what does "All in" mean here? I will state again. This is the ONLY place I've seen these "conspiracies." I don't get my news from X (formerly known as Twitter). But sure, I guess there might be some people out there that scoffed a bit, probably fewer than those that believe there was a conspiracy within the Secret Service to facilitate the assassination. Deserves investigation I suppose. Certainly was a failure.

This is just a repost of the OP. Christopher Wray was nominated for FBI director by... **checks notes** ...Donald Trump. Not sure that constitutes "The Left" either. Besides he didn't say it was staged, or faked or even that Convicted Felon Trump wasn't hit with a bullet. He said they didn't know.

Yes, let's investigate, rather that just presenting biased suppositions.

Trump initially arose when voter apathy was very low. From observation, it might seem like Trump exists not to become president but to gain people's interest in the election process.

Because he commonly acts out when he isn't the centre of attention, the idea that he paid someone to have himself shot came to mind.

However, this was deemed to be unlikely later on.

It's an expression. It's like when someone says "this takes the cake."

There is always going to be someone who says "what cake? I want cake!"
