Some states already have bans on price gouging, so her proposal is to simply extend that as a federal regulation. None of this sounds like "Soviet-Style" anything. It's capitalism at its best.

Should such a thing come to pass I wonder, as an amateur historian, how this will compare to Diocletian's Edictum de Pretiis Rerum Venalium of AD 301. Here this a link to the Wikipedia page on the edict for those interested. The third part of the edict set maximum prices for well over 1,000 products, including food items. Of course the price for one pound purple silk was set at 150,000 denarii, which, interesting enough, was the same price set for a lion. (I wonder what kind of financing one could get for purchasing a lion?)

I do admit our modern economy is, perhaps, ever so slightly, more advanced than early 4th century AD Rome.

Generally I do strongly support monopoly prevention. But I dont support anti gouging legislation.
