  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

You just confirmed that she said it. The added words don’t help any, it’s still just as ridiculous.
If you think that this:

'"you have to pass the bill to see what's in it"

...is the same as this:

'we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it...'

...then it's a comprehension problem on your part. That she adds this:

'....away from the fog of the controversy.'

...and you still don't see the difference, then I can't help you.

Depends where you get your information from. It's from a junk site that gave you that out-of-context quote from Pelosi then you'll always come up short. Here it is in full: Did Nancy Pelosi Say Obamacare Must be Passed to 'Find Out What Is in It'?

'You’ve heard about the controversies within the bill, the process about the bill, one or the other. But I don’t know if you have heard that it is legislation for the future, not just about health care for America, but about a healthier America, where preventive care is not something that you have to pay a deductible for or out of pocket. Prevention, prevention, prevention–it’s about diet, not diabetes. It’s going to be very, very exciting.

But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it, away from the fog of the controversy.'

Maybe that's what you need to do. Avoid the biased reporting, the edited speeches, the cherry picked quotes. Try to avoid, as she says 'the fog of controversy'. You'll be better informed.
well ... I do try to research things out ... but as an example ... if one wants to go to the source itself (a bill) it is near an impossible task to know what is really going on.

The ACA may only be 2,700 pages, but when you start to add in the regulations related to this law, the number of pages becomes astronomical. According to sources in Congress, the stack of rules, regulations, and proposed regulations amounts to somewhere in the neighborhood of 20,000 pages, although there is some debate about the exact number. Some say proposed regulations shouldn’t count while others claim some of the pages contain such small type font that they should constitute more pages.

A doctor may recommended a certain diet ... but it's up to the person to follow that diet plan ... how is that known? If they don't follow the diet are there repercussions?

Preventive and routine care is care that helps prevent health problems or finds them before they become serious. One of the best things you can do for your health is to use these services.

So ... let's use vaccines as an example .... considered preventive care ... if people choose not to take them then what? Will there be repercussions for not doing so in regard to what is covered or what is not covered? The UK is implementing a digital vaccine card ... for what reasons?

Millions of immigrants were allowed to come into our country that were not vaccinated. Most school systems require certain vaccines before entering the school system ... are the migrants and migrant children required to get them? Is this being done?

It just seems like a sticky wicket with some of these things?

No one should be making up the difference between their wage and paying bills on tips. It’s cruel. Pay a livable wage and not expect your patrons to pay your workers in tips.
Without making this political, I agree with this statement.

Having worked in the restaurant and service industry, I know they make more money via tips. I used to watch them count their wads of cash at end of the night.
Not to mention, they are underpaid and overworked considering the type of people they have to work with. Some people have no manners. It’s appalling.

If he can't see that it's pretty much the same thing then you can't help him either.
It's all gaslighting. Anything the left does they can explain and you're supposed to accept it even when it's ridiculous

Is every Trump idea a terrible idea?

I mean, if he has some good ones, Im fine with D's getting on board with those.

That said, I actually dont think tax exempt tip income is a good idea.
Then why is Kamala copying him and offering the same thing?

'But the union representing 60,000 workers in that industry, the Culinary Workers Union, announced its endorsement of Harris. About 54% of the union's members are Latino, 55% women and 60% immigrants.

No wonder they are supporting Harris. Trump wants that 60% in camps and will then, somehow, remove them from the country, to...somewhere. With the approval of...someone wherever they are being sent. I'm sure he'll supply the details soon.
Are illegal immigrants members of unions?
Donald Trump has never ever said that he wants to put LEGAL immigrants in camps.

The woman who posted it is deadly serious. Read her comments. She's really far right. You've reached the point where you can't tell satire from truth.
No, that would be you

Usually, tips are voluntary and customers are not forced to pay tips.
Yeah but you do. Because if you dont youre kind of a jerk. So for almost everyone the 20% ish tip is part of the typical cost of going out.

Would be much better to pay servers a market wage and roll that into to menu price, like every other cost. No weird game playing.

I wasn't saying that it's easy to pick the bones out of any legislation. I was pointing out that you quoted Pelosi out of context. And inaccurately into the bargain.

If you think that wading through a bill after it's passed is difficult, then trying to tie it down before it's passed, with all the changes and alterations and revisions and cross references would be all but impossible for anyone who is not involved in the minutiae of the legalese. Which is why she said that you need to wait until it's passed before you can start investigating and breaking down exactly what's included.

As you said, there was an enormous amount of information to get through. You really want to start before it's finalised?

So the intelligent thing to do is pass it without knowing what’s in it and what all it entails and then, after it’s a law investigate and see what you have voted for.and made a law. Yeah, that sounds perfectly reasonable.

Illegal immigrants are defined thus (from here: https://crsreports.congress.gov/product/pdf/R/R47218/3):

'This report covers several frequently asked questions about the unauthorized immigrant population (sometimes referred to as undocumented migrants, illegal migrants, or aliens in immigration law) residing in the United States.]

As regards their work status:

'In some cases, individuals with certain statuses or pending applications may be eligible for work authorization.'

I'd assume that if you were authorized to work then you'd be free to join a union.

And Trump intends deporting 'unauthorised immigrants', which is the same, as we have just seen, as saying illegal immigrants. From here: Trump touts historic deportation plans, but his own record reveals big obstacles

'Trump himself has talked about enlisting local law enforcement and National Guard troops to extend ICE's reach, while some of his allies have even floated the idea of "staging areas" or detention camps near the southern border that would allow the administration to arrest, detain and deport unauthorized immigrants by the millions.

But some immigration analysts and former ICE officials say the Trump campaign's goal of deporting many of the roughly 11 million unauthorized immigrants in the U.S. will be expensive and logistically challenging — if it is feasible at all.'

See that figure? Eleven million? That's the population of Ohio. It's the combined population of Chicago, Houston, Phoenix and Philadelphia.

You aren't voting for it. The people who will be voting for it will be studying it and arguing about until they reach an agreement. At least, you better hope that whichever side you voted for is doing so on your behalf. When it's passed then if you're keen then you can wade through the finalised bill yourself.

And as Pelosi said, when it's finalised then you can study what's been passed. Unless you want to waste your time studying a bill that hasn't.

If a person is not in the USA legally, if a person is an illegal immigrant, if a person is an undocumented immigrant, then that person should NOT BE in the USA. What are your nation’s laws concerning illegal immigration?
