If you're going to use a modern day state to make an example then I think it's only fair to use modern day concepts in response. The Roman Empire was a democratically elected government? Or do you not know what it means to offer incense to the emperor?
It's about the woman and her attitudes to covid and the vaccine. It's all grist for the political mill. And if this is the standard of 'grist' you are going to present, then please keep it coming. How does that say it all? This thread isn’t even about Trump.
What modern day democratitically elected government is comparable to the Roman Empire? If you're going to use a modern day state to make an example then I think it's only fair to use modern day concepts in response.
Either make an argument using modern day concepts and states or biblical ones. What modern day democratitically elected government is comparable to the Roman Empire?
You said it should be a democratically elected government, based on what? Is that Biblical or just your opinion?Either make an argument using modern day concepts and states or biblical ones.
Maybe you should reread the article. It's about the woman and her attitudes to covid and the vaccine. It's all grist for the political mill. And if this is the standard of 'grist' you are going to present, then please keep it coming.
I’m saying it doesn’t say anything about the type of government. If you are going to use North Korea as one example then we need another to which we can compare it.
Someone thinks that governments have the authority to demand that you worship the head of the government or be put to death, and that they are justified because if you refuse to worship them you accept the punishment. If you are going to use North Korea as one example then we need another to which we can compare it.
It's my opinion that is is an excellent comparison to the type of state that you mentioned. Which was a modern state, and not biblical. As you already knew. You said it should be a democratically elected government, based on what? Is that Biblical or just your opinion?
I'm not sure that you read it all. I certainly did. You might have seen the quote I gave which was right at the end.Maybe you should reread the article.
So you are opining on what Christians should do?It's my opinion that is is an excellent comparison to the type of state that you mentioned. Which was a modern state, and not biblical. As you already knew.
I guess that you think North Korea was simply picked at random without any thought as to the form that that state takes. How odd.I’m saying it doesn’t say anything about the type of government.
I don't care what Christians do. If you want to use a dictatorship as an example for some sort of political quick step then be prepared to have different interpretations of what a modern state could be in comparison. So you are opining on what Christians should do?
“If you cheerfully accept the punishment yes. All the law is is a statement that if some prohibited behavior happens, or something mandated doesn't happen, then a certain punishment is applied. By accepting the punishment, you are acknowledging the authority of the government to issue it in the first place.”I guess that you think North Korea was simply picked at random without any thought as to the form that that state takes. How odd.
If it's a government from biblical times then the punishments are usually biblical in nature. You know, stoning, crucifixion. Render unto Caesar or get nailed to a cross perhaps. Now if you want to update the concept and use North Korea as an example (render unto Kim Jong Un etc), then I think you need to use a democratically elected government as a comparison (render unto Yoon Suk Yeol etc).Someone thinks that governments have the authority to demand that you worship the head of the government or be put to death, and that they are justified because if you refuse to worship them you accept the punishment.
Now I understand the support for big government. It’s starting to make sense.
I’m saying scripture doesn’t specify a type of government in question.I guess that you think North Korea was simply picked at random without any thought as to the form that that state takes. How odd.
I guess if you believe the Bible is a book to be followed, then yes. I’m sure there are millions of people who self identify as Christian who display varying levels of adherence to what the Bible says about how to live your life.Even governments like North Korea?
I’m not a Christian so I don’t have to follow what the Bible says about slavery.Wow. You would have been one to support slavery based on this understanding.
