And the Secret Service wasn't going to start shooting until that got sorted out.

Remember, this is not a war zone. They likely see people out of place quite frequently on their various assignments, and most of the time it's not a bad guy.

The local police was in occupation of that building, not the Secret Service. Sure, the Secret Service was in overall authority of the job of protecting the candidate, but let's not pretend the local police are children who can't be held accountable for the responsibility they were assigned.

If my job is to protect the president and I put someone incompetent in a position and they fail I am responsible for that. They can share the blame but ultimately it’s my fault.

I doubt we’d find that “this happens all of the time”, where a nut with a firearm attempts harm to a public figure only to be found out by the local constabulary, but when it happens, someone along the chain-of-command is going to proffer “we didn’t have enough personnel“!
I mean, it just follows. (No one dies of a “little heart attack” it’s always massive, we know this because it has killed (or nearly so) a person.)

No, the Republicans are not "taking over the government", they're just doing their jobs like they're supposed to. It's not unimaginable to think that if Republicans accomplish their goals, legally, that the radical left won't resort to bloodshed. We've certainly seen it in the past, and the current political climate doesn't settle these kinds of fears.

...But using alarmist rhetoric, such as "taking over the government" only serves to incite the possible bloodshed that Republicans are anticipating from the radical left. And accusing the right of violent threats, is entirely backwards... It's 100% the other way around.
