FBI Director Christopher Wray testified before the House Judiciary Committee about the agency's ongoing investigation of the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump, providing new information uncovered while other factors continue to be investigated.
Wray said Wednesday during the House hearing the would-be Trump assassin conducted a Google search on "how far away was Oswald from Kennedy?"

At one point during the hearing, Wray said that Crooks purchased a ladder prior to the shooting but it was not found at the site. Wray said the FBI is still looking into how Crooks was able to get on the roof.
The FBI is leading the investigation into the incident and so far has not found the motive of Crooks, who fired eight shots from a rooftop about 150 yards from the rally – killing one and wounding three, including Trump.

Committee member Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., asked Wray whether or not the gunman worked alone.
"So far we have not found any evidence of accomplices or coconspirators ... foreign or domestic," Wray replied.
Wray also said the FBI has yet to find a motive in the shooting, but that Crooks clearly had a fascination with public figures and that about a week before the shooting he became "very focused" on Trump and the rally. In addition, Wray said Crooks was not on the FBI's radar or in the agency's database before the shooting and that investigators found about 14 guns in his family home. Early in the hearing, Wray said that FBI has uncovered a drone that gunman used the day of the attempted assassination and that he flew it in the vicinity of the rally site about two hours before Trump took the stage, at about 5:30 p.m.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio., pressed Wray for more information.
"When I say area, not over the stage and that part of the area itself," Wray said. "I would say about 200 yards."
He also called the assassination attempt a "threat to democracy."
"The attempted assassination of the former president was an attack on our democracy and our democratic process and we will not and do not tolerate political violence of any kind, especially a despicable account of this magnitude," he said in his opening statement. He also said the FBI is working "tirelessly" to figure out the failures of the rally.

It looks like we might get a report from this investigation after all. The details are coming in pretty quickly.

Dang, 14 guns in one home? That is more guns than I have friends. I am surprised why the internet service provider did not flag cops when Crooks began searching up Kennedy info online. Also, was that drone off-the-shelf (such as DJI), or some specialized one? If it is specialized, shouldn't the perp have gotten some special permits with the FAA?

Also, I hope that the FBI remains a strong institution for years to come, to prevent crimes, and protect our country from terror within.

I hope the FBI gets defunded and goes away. 4chan is better at solving crimes, and is less politically biased.

4chan is pretty toxic though.

Edit: In fact, a computer programmer sought out to prove how toxic 4chan is, by training his own AI on 4chan as a prank. The robot ended up being a racist.

"GPT-4chan"

Also, in 2022, a 4chan user was radicalized by other 4chan users to commit a gun attack:

I would hope reading the Warren Commission Report is not yet a crime. Or owning a copy of it, which I own.

The FBI has engaged in law fare and should have a thorough housecleaning.

I would not want that to be a crime either. The Warren Commission Report is an important part of US and world history alike, as 1963 was a year that changed everything (for the worse). And yes, the FBI might need a housecleaning, but we should not get rid of the entire organization, though it might need some form of restructuring. How it should be restructured, I am not sure, cos I am not an FBI agent. :)

That should still be allowed, cos most people will not use it to make weapons (some people like science), however, one should sign a form before getting the book from the library or bookstore.

Should we have to ‘sign a form’ if we want to read a Catholic book in a library? Remember that the FBI considers that Catholicism leans terroristic. Trying to check out a pre-Vatican II book might be something the FBI would want to know about.

I was at a used bookstore two days ago and bought a book about Bonhoeffer. He actually got involved in a plot to kill a head of state. Might the FBI want to know about me buying such a subversive book?

My point in all of this is that book reading should not be surveilled by governments. It should be in no database what anybody is reading. It’s like they are concerned with thought crime and future crime. Sure it is of interest what this assassin was reading, but it should only be of relevance after the fact. We do live in a surveillance society and the government knows too much. Which is why I think the FBI needs reform.

The footage of all the people watching Crooks on the roof and filming it on their phones is mindboggling. He was literally just a stone's throw away from a lot of observers. No other assassin in history was observed with a gun by so many people for such a long period of time.

A snail could have crawled from where Cooks was to were Trump was in the amount of time between when Crooks was first spotted and when bullets started flying.

The family of Cory Comperatore who was killed in the shooting should sue and win a huge settlement over such incredible neglect in keeping people safe, when it was so very easy to do.

The FBI has changed a lot for the worse. It should never deem the Catholic faith or any other religion as being terroristic. For the form, it could be an agreement between the library and the patron, and kept away from government on an encrypted disc with non-identifying info, unless the patron commits a crime. However, a bad government actor could pose as a librarian and steal the hard drive, so maybe it is best not to sign any forms at all, and just let people read whatever they want to read, but have an age warning on the cover of the book.

But yes, overall, books should never be surveilled by the government.

If you think cops should be held responsible for preventing crime that it’s within their reasonable ability to prevent, welcome to the club. You can get your ACAB shirt by the door on the way out.

I think those who manage law enforcement should be held accountable.

Not only did Crooks seek info the FBI is hiding about the Kennedy assassination, so are millions of Americans still waiting for the info to be released as it was supposed to have been years ago. What is the FBI hiding and why? We know it hid Seth Rich's laptop and Hunter's laptop while denying it had the devices.

Your local library likely has a copy of The Progressive, Nov. 1979 issue with the information in it. I'll link the wiki page about the attempt to stop publication not knowing the CF policy on weapons of mass destruction, but a PDF of the full article is in the "External Links" section of the article.

That is interesting. I am not into building anything harmful, but if I need to build a spacecraft that can go 3% the speed of light powered by fusion explosions for the peaceful exploration of the outer solar system, I can. Just need a few hundred billion bucks of NASA funding, a PhD and a team of a few thousand men and women. Yes, I have a slight obsession for alternative spacecraft propulsion/power systems. It is 2024 guys. We need faster spaceships.

Also, this case happened in my home state of Wisconsin. That brings things local. It is really strange how the US had to use scientists from europe to develop nuclear tech though. In fact, from your Wiki article, one of the guys who made hydrogen nukes is from Hungary, and Hungarian scientists who relocated to the US were known as Martians: The Martians (scientists) - Wikipedia

Exploring the solar system is nice, but I'm not sure of any real need for huge expenditures on "faster" travel.

Teller, it was mostly Teller obsessing about "the Super".

Orion was a bad design. There are other nuclear propulsion designs that are more reasonable.

I'm a young man, and young people are impatient, so that is why we need faster rockets. ;) In all seriousness, we know very little about the Kuiper Belt, and exploring the outer solar system could lead to a better understanding of how the solar system formed. Yep, and it was Edward Teller who designed the Super, based upon Stanislaw Ulam's design according to Wikipedia.

Orion might be outdated for 2024 designs, but was really ahead of the time for the 1960s. Nuclear ion propulsion could work better and more efficiently, but the acceleration times for ion drives are abysmal. Wait, were/are you a rocket scientist? You seem well versed in engineering and stuff. Did NASA or the government hire you for engineering or working with advanced technologies?

When I was your age... we thought "maybe it exists". Of course we didn't realize we knew of one object pair in it already.

Frankly it was kind of dumb. Just the thought of all that mass to push against makes the "starship" rocket look tiny.

This was what I was thinking of:

I used to be a "rocket surgeon" on this site, but no.

I have a friend who is into rockets. I haven't looked into them deeply since the SRS was a "commercially viable launch system". (And then it blew up.)
