  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

RNC's new leaders 'admonished' by Trump campaign after purge backfires: report

Just days after the organization's new chair Michael Whatley and new co-chair Lara Trump were elected, entire teams were informed by email that they could reapply for their jobs or else be terminated. In their subsequent job interviews, the staffers were reportedly asked questions such as whether they thought the 2020 election was stolen — an attempt to weed out anyone who was not completely loyal to Trump.

But according to a new report from The Guardian, some staffers who had previously been on crucial teams refused to return and serve under the RNC's new MAGA leadership, leaving the organization "without people with deep knowledge of election operations at the Republican party’s central committee, and who were willing to work for salaries far lower than what they could earn in the private sector."

Top RNC lawyer resigns after rift grows with Trump

The former president was angered by Charlie Spies’s criticism of his false 2020 election-fraud claims.

The lawyer, Charlie Spies, is a long-respected GOP election operative who was hired by Trump’s top lieutenants in March after the former president engineered a takeover of the Republican National Committee, which in recent years has been the party’s main operation in both fundraising and field operations.

Trump had approved of the hiring but later learned about additional comments the lawyer had made.

During a 2021 appearance at the Conservative Political Action Conference, he said correctly that allegations of widespread voting machine error in Michigan were false and that repeated recounts in Georgia had failed to show any voter fraud in the 2020 race there.
“Let’s win the elections, and not get worried about things that aren’t true,” he said at that event.

[Campaign spox says Spies resigned due to time commitment/scheduling conflicts.]

New RNC lawyer Christina Bobb is an 'unguided missile' who specializes in 'evidence-free suits': expert

The Post notes that Bobb, during her tenure as an OAN anchor, was front and center in terms of promoting bogus election claims.

"Bobb worked in front of the camera and behind the scenes to undermine Biden’s win in 2020," writes the Post. "In Arizona, she helped Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani arrange a meeting that aired false assertions of mass election fraud and later promoted a review of 1.1 million ballots in the state’s most populous county that election experts widely discredited as unreliable."

RNC’s ‘election integrity’ lawyer arraigned, charged with election crimes

Christina Bobb, who was tapped to serve as the party’s senior counsel for election integrity, and who was back in the news Tuesday
Rudy Giuliani and several other defendants in the Arizona “fake electors” case have been arraigned on charges of conspiracy, fraud and forgery over an alleged scheme to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election in Donald Trump’s favor. ... Others arraigned Tuesday include former Arizona Republican Party chair Kelli Ward and Christina Bobb.

Lara Trump is building an army of ‘100,000 poll watchers and over 500 lawyers’ to ‘deploy’ across America in November

Following her remarks — which were full of militaristic language such as “deploy” and “battleground” — the assembled volunteers (around 75 in total) began “training” as potential poll watchers.

The press was not allowed to view the training, The Post’s request to view training materials was declined.

“I’m convinced that the election was stolen in 2020 . . . and I genuinely think if Joe Biden wins this one we will be heading towards World War Three,” one attendee told The Post.

“This isn’t just about protecting our votes, it’s about protecting our families.”

Trumpurity tests considered for RNC delegates

Trump camp scrutinizes Arizona delegates in move to prevent disruptions at convention

The Trump campaign asked alternate delegates to challenge six delegates in the state before resolving the issue days later.

John Findlay, the Trump campaign’s convention delegate selection director, placed phone calls to six of the campaign’s “alternate delegates” in Arizona and requested that they challenge the status of six delegates to the convention out of concern for their loyalty to Trump, according to correspondence obtained by NBC News.

Days later, however, the Trump campaign abandoned efforts to replace the delegates, saying it “cleared the air” with the delegates who sparked the concerns after days of deliberation.

The episode also comes amid some online chatter on the right about pushing Michael Flynn — the retired lieutenant general and conspiracy theorist who briefly served as Trump’s national security adviser, pleaded guilty to making false statements to the FBI before trying to reverse that plea, and won a pardon from Trump in late 2020 — to be Trump’s running mate in 2024. Since his pardon, Flynn has traveled the country hosting conferences promoting Christian nationalism in recent years.

Trump campaign seeks to head off convention revolt from its right flank

Aides scrambled to foil a plot to throw the nominating process into chaos as suspicions abound about potentially disloyal delegates.

Arizona delegates to the Republican National Convention gathered this month in a Phoenix suburb, showing up to get to know each other and learn about their duties.
Part of the presentation included a secret plan to throw the party’s nomination of Donald Trump for president into chaos.

The instructions did not come from “Never Trumpers” hoping to stop the party from nominating a felon when delegates gather in Milwaukee next month. They instead came from avowed “America First” believers hatching a challenge from the far right — a plot to release the delegates from their pledge to support Trump, according to people present and briefed on the meeting, slides from the presentation and private messages obtained by The Washington Post.

Most of the dozen GOP officials or activists interviewed by The Post even ventured that the aim may have been to substitute former national security adviser Michael Flynn for Trump if the former president is sentenced to prison time. Among some on the far right, suspicions have intensified that the former president has surrounded himself with too many advisers beholden to the “deep state.”

The campaign and the Arizona delegates reached an agreement that there would be no disruptions at the convention.

Several other Republicans involved in the discussions suggested motives that revolved around the same idea: money.
“I suspect that they really don’t want us to win … they’re making money on the election integrity stuff,” a Republican said of efforts by activists aligned with some of the most far-fetched conspiracy theories of fraudulent balloting. “They make money when we lose.”

It’s long been traditional that delegates pledged to a candidate are only encumbered on the first ballot*. If the favorite son does not prevail on the first ballot, delegates are free to pledge their conscience.

*sometimes two ballots, depending on pre-convention negotiations & agreements.

Trump's RNC officially kills the GOP's mail-in voter effort, opts for lawfare instead

hahahahahahahah.... hoooboy... GOP better hope for good weather in November.

In a victory for the extremist wing of the Republican Party, it looks like Donald Trump’s hand-picked leadership team at the Republican National Committee has officially scrapped the GOP’s plan to encourage early voting this election cycle.

Not sure why he's mad about this, then:

Trump threatens lawsuit over ad using his own words to discourage mail voting

After having condemned mail voting for years, Trump is now embracing it and encouraging his voters to take advantage of the practice in the presidential election.

“MAGA Patriots, listen to our president,” the ad from Pennsylvania Values PAC begins, before it splices together sound bites of Trump condemning mail voting.

“Mail in voting is totally corrupt, get that through your head,” Trump says in one such clip.

The 30-second ad ends with the on-screen text: “Stand strong with President Trump against mail in voting!”

Is this for real? (apparently not; I mean, it's not imaginary, but it's likely the work of some clown not associated with the Trump campaign)

In a victory for the extremist wing of the Republican Party, it looks like Donald Trump’s hand-picked leadership team at the Republican National Committee has officially scrapped the GOP’s plan to encourage early voting this election cycle. Instead, the party is taking steps to prioritize legal challenges to voting systems ahead of November.

Case in point

'The litigation election': Trump and Harris teams head to court in flurry of pre-election lawsuits

Earlier this year, the Republican National Committee and the Trump campaign announced what they described as an "historic" "election integrity" program with the mission of deploying 100,000 volunteers and attorneys in battleground states, and implementing what they called a "proactive litigation effort."

According to a Republican National Committee official, in recent months the program has engaged in over 130 election lawsuits across 26 states, and recruited approximately 5,000 volunteer attorneys who are ready to be activated on Election Day.

Democrats, too, have taken on an offensive posture. They have aggressively pushed back in the courts, intervening in "dozens of baseless Republican lawsuits to debunk their lies and defeat them in court," according to an internal memo prepared by Vice President Kamala Harris' chief attorney, Dana Remus.

"We're seeing a record number of lawsuits filed before the election -- nearly every day -- in a seemingly coordinated push to use the legitimacy of the courts to lay the groundwork for discrediting an unfavorable result," [director of the Democracy Program at the nonprofit Brennan Center for Justice Wendy] Weiser said. "The lawsuits are not about getting legal relief, but about spreading conspiracy theories."

Active litigation is pending in 39 states, [prominent election litigation lawyer now working on the Harris team Marc] Elias said in a recent post on X, with prominent battleground states seeing the most activity. Georgia leads the way with 23 lawsuits, followed by Pennsylvania with 16.
