The city of Carlsbad in California has been accused of instructing two chaplains to stop praying in the name of Jesus at public events.

The First Liberty Institute (FLI) claimed that this action infringes upon freedom of religion.

The group said in their public complaint to the Carlsbad City Council: "Because the chaplains cannot in good conscience erase the name of Jesus from their prayers, this order deprives first responders of the solace and spiritual strength that the chaplains' volunteer ministry has provided for nearly two decades."

All my prayers are directed to the trinity and he has that right.

I doubt they would tell a Muslim the same thing, or stop using his prayer rug with prostrations etc

What about the citizens of other faiths? Would they be happy if the city hired Muslim clerics to praise Allah?

This is precisely why America's founders wanted nothing to with government-sponsored religion.

If Christians are unable to participate fully as Christians then such an institution does not deserve the respect of Christians, not should we outsource politics to it.

The name of Jesus Christ is more valuable than liberal notions of freedom from religion.

Have the citizens of other faiths sought to supply a similar service though?
I think it's something similar to Army chaplains: it's not the Army actively promoting a religion but providing a service to it's members who are of a particular faith.

I'm guessing most of them know what kind of reception they'd get from a lot of people.

The courts have held that since the military takes people from their sources of worship, it's incumbent on them to provide access to chaplains. Seems to balance the rights of the troops to religion as well as the right of others to be free of religion.

The reception from Joe Public is irrelevant.
The interference by the local Govt. is what's relevant here.
