Israel Airstrike on Gaza Kills Foreign Aid Workers

At least five employees from the World Central Kitchen (WCK) non-governmental organisation, including foreigners, were killed in an Israeli airstrike on Gaza, the Hamas-run Gaza government media office said late on Monday.

Those killed in the incident in central Gaza's Deir al-Balah included citizens of Poland, Australia and Britain, as well as one Palestinian, a spokesman for the media office said.

April 2 (Reuters) - Citizens from Australia, Britain and Poland were among seven people working for celebrity chef Jose Andres' World Central Kitchen who were killed in an Israeli airstrike in central Gaza on Monday, the NGO said.
The workers, who also included Palestinians and a dual citizen of the United States and Canada, were travelling in two armoured cars emblazoned with the WCK logo and another vehicle, WCK said in a statement.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israeli forces “unintentionally hit innocent people” in a “tragic incident” after World Central Kitchen said seven of its aid workers were killed in a strike in Gaza. The food aid nonprofit blamed the Israel Defense Forces and said it was immediately pausing its operations in the region, sayingTuesday’s victims included a dual citizen of the United States and Canada, nationals from Australia, Poland and the United Kingdom, and at least one Palestinian worker. Israel also announced an independent investigation.

World Central Kitchen blamed Israel for the strike, which it said occurred even though the aid group coordinated its movements with the IDF.

Inside the ruins of Gaza’s al-Shifa Hospital

A sprawling medical campus that housed maternity wards, surgery suites and emergency rooms has been mostly destroyed after two weeks of intense assault by Israeli troops battling Hamas militants who Israel said were barricading themselves inside the complex.

Spokesmen for the Israel Defense Forces brought a handful of foreign journalists into the compound Sunday afternoon, just hours before the last special forces troops withdrew. A reporter and photographer from The Washington Post were there.

The IDF offered a narrow view — a pinhole, really — but what we saw was destruction on a massive scale. Military censors did not review our words or photos.

Earlier in the war, the IDF made much of the tunnels it found on the hospital grounds. The IDF described a vast underground command and control center, a virtual city. But definitive evidence was lacking. There were clearly tunnels. But where was Hamas?

As it turns out, the Israeli commando colonel stressed that the tunnel system may not have been as important as the IDF once thought.

Instead, the colonel said, the Hamas operatives in recent months were working above ground, inside offices and wards. The IDF showed pictures of what it said were cash, rifles, RPGs, grenades, mortars and some Hamas documents found on-site.

When the March assault began two weeks ago, there were 6,000 people sheltering on the grounds, according to the IDF — patients, medical staff and displaced families.

How many Palestinian fighters were killed here over two weeks of fighting? The IDF did not provide an exact figure. Hagari said “about 40” were killed inside the hospital compound. The commando leader said “a few dozens.” Another 150 suspected militants were killed in the surrounding area, the military said.

Now even Bibi is spreading Hamas propaganda!

In conclusion, Minister Gallant instructed the defense establishment to take the following measures:

1. Establish a professional team that will immediately investigate the circumstances of the incident.

2. Promptly open a joint situation room – a platform that enables coordination between the IDF’s Southern Command and international organizations vis-à-vis the distribution of aid.

We hear a lot about Israeli investigations into these killings of non combatants but not so much about the results of such investigations.

IDF bombed WCK aid convoy 3 times, targeting armed Hamas member who wasn't there

IDF Drone Bombed World Central Kitchen Aid Convoy Three Times, Targeting Armed Hamas Member Who Wasn't There

The strike on the aid convoy, which travelled along a route approved by the Israeli army, killed seven workers of the World Central Kitchen – but the target, an armed man thought to be a terrorist, never left the warehouse with the cars
So rather than a tragic "accident" this shows the IDF was prepared to kill several foreign aid workers to kill a suspected terrorist who wasn't even there (maybe didn't actually exist?)

I agree. What you can do is call the U.S. major media outlets and ask them to report on the actions Israel took that are listed in the article.

A senior White House official told the Washington Examiner that Tuesday’s meeting, reported by NPR on Monday night, will continue Biden’s “tradition of honoring the Muslim community during Ramadan.”

Here are the results of an Israeli investigation, again, the American media should be reporting this:

In the IDF investigation submitted by Southern Command Commander Major General Yaron Finkelman to Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi, it is stated that "while the trucks were traveling towards the distribution centers, a violent gathering of approximately 12,000 Gazans developed around them, looting the equipment they were transporting.
During the looting events, incidents of injury were observed "significantly in crowded citizens and being run over by trucks."

The Israeli authorities have not hidden their genocidal ethnic cleansing intentions re Gaza by the cutting off of food, water, power and medicines; and the bombing of hospitals, universities, mosques, churches, libraries - essential infrastructure to make Gaza unliveable. So targeting aid workers when the intention is to starve the people of Gaza to death or force them to leave is a logical step by Israel.

Israel is deliberately starving Palestinians, UN rights expert says

Israel is deliberately starving Palestinians, UN rights expert says

Israel is intentionally starving Palestinians and should be held accountable for war crimes – and genocide, according to the UN’s leading expert on the right to food.

Hunger and severe malnutrition are widespread in the Gaza Strip, where about 2.2 million Palestinians are facing severe shortages resulting from Israel destroying food supplies and severely restricting the flow of food, medicines and other humanitarian supplies. Aid trucks and Palestinians waiting for humanitarian relief have come under Israeli fire.

“There is no reason to intentionally block the passage of humanitarian aid or intentionally obliterate small-scale fishing vessels, greenhouses and orchards in Gaza – other than to deny people access to food,” Michael Fakhri, the UN special rapporteur on the right to food, told the Guardian.

Are you sure you are right to trust the IDF when it investigates itself rather than allowing independent investigation.

Here are the results of an Israeli investigation, again, the American media should be reporting this:
It was reported by the American media.

Israel’s military has said its investigation into the deadly humanitarian aid incident in Gaza last month found Israeli troops did not fire at the aid convoy, but at “a number of suspects” who approached and posed a threat to nearby forces,

A local journalist in Gaza, Khader Al Za’anoun, who was at the scene and witnessed the incident, said at the time that the chaos and confusion only began once Israeli troops opened fire, and that many of the victims were run over by trucks in the ensuing panic.

“The command review found that IDF troops did not fire at the humanitarian convoy but did fire at a number of suspects who approached the nearby forces and posed a threat to them,

The IDF said during the crowding, dozens of Palestinians “advanced towards nearby IDF troops, up to several meters from them, and thereby posed a real threat to the forces at that point.”

“At this stage, the forces fired cautionary fire in order to distance the suspects. As the suspects continued to advance toward them, the troops fired precisely toward a number of the suspects to remove the threat,” the IDF’s summary said.

The United Nations said earlier that most of the civilians wounded in the incident presented gunshot wounds. The international body could not determine the same for the deceased.

Your source, I24 News, failed to mention anything about the IDF opening fire on what it called "a number of suspects" (no doubt killing and wounding many), which in turn caused a stampede that resulted in the injuries and deaths of even more Palestinians.

BTW, I24 News is not a reliable source for news about the Israel-Hamas war.

We rate i24 News as right-center biased based on the promotion of right-leaning government propaganda, especially as it relates to the conflict with Hamas. We also rate them Mixed for factual reporting due to failed fact checks and unproven claims.

1. Establish a professional team that will immediately investigate the circumstances of the incident.

Western governments are demanding full accountability....and rightly so. We shall see if the IDF delivers.

2. Promptly open a joint situation room – a platform that enables coordination between the IDF’s Southern Command and international organizations vis-à-vis the distribution of aid.

The aid organization was coordinating it's operations with the IDF.

The head of the Norwegian Refugee Council, Jan Egeland, has been telling the BBC about his recent visit to Gaza where he ate meals with the World Central Kitchen (WCK).

“There is no nobler task," he says. “I saw the good work of these very compassionate people helping the civilian population."

Egeland says WCK had close coordination with the Israeli Defence Forces and always notified them about their movements in what is called a "deconfliction" system.

“This is a war machine totally out of control in Gaza,” he says, adding that more aid workers have been killed in Gaza "than in any other conflict".

Yes, with over 70% of the population admitting (according to the polls) that they supported the October massacre, if I were an Israeli soldier I would have opened fire on those who refused to follow orders to stop. You can't risk the lives of your fellow soldiers and civilians in the area on wishful thinking. As to the words about a right-center news organization supposedly being unreliable, there is nothing wrong with media that leans toward common sense. Having worked with the major media, which is left-wing in the United States, I am constantly amazed at just how far they will go to promote a narrative in contrast to the facts. I worked on one story over quite a long period of time with an AP bureau chief, it was a long piece, and afterwards asked him why he omitted a critical fact, to me the most critical fact in his story. Dead silence. I remember the first time I complained about the major media getting a fact wrong, the guy told me "I missed the spirit of the story." I fully understood the spirit--the narrative. The last time I gave an interview, last year, I went over to dinner and the local media wanted to do a story and had a short deadline, so the hostess, who is quite liberal, was able to hear the interview from the other room. She was amazed that they reported what I did not say, if asked about funding for a federal government project I would have said funding should be cut. They ran a very short clip and then stated I said I wanted more funding. Again I was never even asked. Don't think for a moment that left-wing or left-leaning sources you promote are reliable and others are not. They all make mistakes because they are trying to get news out quickly, but that's not what I'm talking about. It's the insertion of their ideology into story after story that is disturbing. I like to see a good mix of stories posted and I hope people will start looking up information for themselves. I think the media/establishment narrative on the border that has broken down has opened the eyes of some people in this country, and maybe they'll take a closer look at the horrendous reporting on Israel and Gaza and other subjects.

Protesters confront Israeli police near Netanyahu's residence in Jerusalem

Some anti-government protesters Tuesday breached security barriers near the Jerusalem residence of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, according to social media videos.

Israeli police said most of the demonstrators behaved lawfully, but noted that some were "disorderly" as they tried to approach Netanyahu's residence. Israeli media reported several arrests.

[Neither the residence nor the PM were directly threatened.]

National Security Minister Ben Gvir criticized the Israeli security services for allowing protesters to get so close to Netanyahus’ residence.

I'm very careful when it comes to verifying information before making a post, and I also take the time to research the information and check the source to make sure it's reliable. There have been several reports coming out of Gaza that are likely true that I have wanted to share, but if I can't find a legitimate news source or sources reporting on them, I will not post them.

Below are all of the news sources I have used in this thread over the past month. You will notice, with the exception of CNN, which is rated as being mostly factual, that they all rate high or very high for factual reporting according to Media Bias Fact Check.

CNN

We rate CNN moderately left-center biased based on editorial positions by TV hosts that consistently favor the left, while straight news reporting falls just left of center through bias by omission. We also rate them as Mostly Factual in reporting rather than high due to two failed fact checks in the last five years.

Reuters

We rate Reuters Least Biased based on objective reporting and Very High for factual reporting due to proper sourcing of information with minimal bias and a clean fact check record.

Haaretz

We rate Haaretz Left biased based on story selection and editorial positions that strongly favor the Left and High for factual reporting due to a clean fact-check record.

The Atlantic

We rate The Atlantic Left-Center Biased due to editorial positions and High for factual reporting based on excellent sourcing of information and a clean fact-check record

Barrons

We rate Barron’s Right-Center Biased based on an economic philosophy that more closely aligns with the right. We also rate them High for factual reporting due to proper sourcing and a clean fact-check record.

CBS News

We rate CBS News as Left-Center biased based on story selection that moderately favors the left and is High for factual reporting due to proper sourcing and a clean fact check record.

Associated Press

We rate the Associated Press as left-centered biased due to left-leaning editorializing of news stories and frequently conducting fact checks on conservatives. We also rate them High for factual reporting due to proper sourcing and a reasonable fact-check record.

The Lancet

We rate The Lancet Pro-Science and Very-High in factual reporting. IFCN fact-checkers frequently use the Lancet.

Times of Israel

We rate the Times of Israel as Left-Center biased based on editorial positions that slightly favor the left. We also rate them High for factual reporting due to proper sourcing and a clean fact-check record.

BBC

We rate the BBC Left-Center biased based on story selection that slightly favors the left. We also rate them High for factual reporting due to proper sourcing of information. Although they have failed a fact-check, they appropriately issued a correction.

I think that's great that you check information, absolutely wonderful because so few people do. But who is to say if the fact checkers are biased?
Are they including pertinent facts or just facts that support their agendas and narratives? You know the country was very much kept in the dark by the major media on the border situation in the early Biden years. That was by omitting a lot of information about the crisis.
Do they follow the equity that they espouse? If I promoted equity I would make sure to keep the mix of my reporters representative of the people. What percent of those who can vote at the New York Times, at CNN, and at CBS, NBC, and MSNBC voted for Trump? We just had a recent case of the media going nuts over one Republican becoming a reporter. So virtually everyone knows they are left, the truth is they follow the hard left leaders of the government establishment and are more Democrat political organizations than real news organizations. To judge them to be left of center is a token concession.
