Nup. They were against it. It was a religious views versus a secular one.

Do you see which way attitudes are heading?
Yes, straight to hell. Just as they have been for a very long time. It's no surprise. It was predicted 2000 years ago.

It was predicted 2000 years ago that Greek Orthodox Christians are going to hell for allowing the Greek government to legalize same sex civil marriages?

You really think the majority of people are far-left progressives?
Did I say that? Let me check...

No. I didn't. Secular doesn't equal 'far left progressive'. Secular views in Greece trumped religious views. You might have noticed a trend. Or maybe not. I certainly have over the last few decades.

If the threat of hell is what was stopping people then secular views and associated decisions on matters such as SSM are only going to head one way.

But if you think that someone declaring that they want to share a lifetime with someone of the same sex, or even someone agreeing that they can, will result in eternal punishment, then good for you. Be sure to tell all the gay couples you know. Just in case they aren't aware. Let us know what they think.

I'm not sure that the Greeks back then were really bothered about homosexuality. They even depicted it on their pottery (no, I'm not going to give a link).

I was responding to the attitudes comment. I believe it was the secular attitudes that trumped religious. Or at least that's what it sounded like.

so you are making the claim that secular requires an endorsement of gay marriage?

I know a number of secular, non-Christian people, who are not supportive of things like gay marriage, transgenderism, castrating kids, etc. All of that stuff is far-left ideology

so when you say the western world is moving that direction, I disagree

most people are moderate

I know. Yes it will result in eternal punishment just as all rejection of Christ does. Homosexuals don't get some special treatment.

But as time goes on the churches acceptance of sin within its ranks will get worse and worse.

I think there are surveys dealing with SSM that show the majority of people support it now. It didn't used to be that way even among secular folks, but I think it is now.

The secular did not trump the religious. The Greek Orthodox Church is still functioning and is in full control of its doctrines and ceremonies, It just has no say in the matter of who the state can extend the right of civil marriage to. Which it never should have had.

Can you please cut out the the 'So, you are...' comments. It's crystal clear what I said. And what I said is what I meant.

The arguments against SSM are invariably religious. The arguments for it are invariably secular. Why is that so difficult for you to grasp?

I know. Yes it will result in eternal punishment...
No. It results in some people claiming it will result in eternal punishment. You actually have no idea what God will decide.

But like I said, make sure you tell all your gay friends that you think they are hell bound. Not that it will be your decision in any case. But tell them anyway.

We are all hell bound. Like I said gays don't get a special ticket. I know you want to portray that we believe they do, but we don't.

I think that's the point of Christ sacrifice so none of us have to be.

Thats the good news! He came to seek and to save the lost. All of us!

So those who support SSM are going to hell. But...we're all headed there anyway.

Not much of a deterrent, is it? Beats me why you brought it up.

" two New Jersey lawmakers introduced a resolution urging schools to drop Huck Finn, which uses the N-word more than 200 times. The book’s language “can cause students to feel upset, marginalized, or humiliated and can create an uncomfortable attitude in the classroom,” the resolution declared."
The irony is that the school boards in some states where slavery was practiced, have banned mentions of slavery in a way that might upset people reading about it. Florida even inserted a standard requiring schools to teach that slavery was a benefit to slaves, because they learned trades that way.

We all get it. While the N-word is now an obscenity to decent people, it's a fact that it used to be used by many otherwise decent humans. And kids should know that.

So the Greek Orthodox Church now permits gay marriage?
Absolutely not. It's the first Orthodox Country with an Orthodox majority to legalize same-sex (secular) marriage.

Interesting many slavic and balkan countries don' have SSM legalized. Not even the Czech Republic which is one of the least religious nations on earth.

It's my understanding many people from Greece are very devout Christians. Unless that changed relatively recently.

I believe it has not changed, but the question really is, why should Christians deny a civil or non Christian marriage to the non Christian citizens of a secular state?
