Also sometimes minds change as history changes, like with Civil War reasoning, at least recognizing slavery is wrong.
Governor past records working with divided state legislatures are good indicator records for Presidential potential. It takes hard work, not excessive use of sometimes divisive executive orders which both major parties guilty of, to get things done for the people. The job with Congress is even tougher with way more diversity than some states.
