  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The Sabbath is grace.

I'll yield to Paul's command and wisdom in Romans 14.
Please show where the Sabbath commandment is mentioned once in Romans 14. Romans 14 is referring to what day MAN esteems above others, not what day God esteems above all others. It's like arguing now if we should keep Christmas or Easter, not keep the holy day of the Lord. Exo 29:8-11 Isa 58:13

I dont know that he's referring to Saturday sabbath or not. But instead of arguing about it I thought I would go that way regardless. I've already shown the truth. I can't make you see it.

Gods true worshippers worship God in spirit and truth. They will have his spirit and worship through the spirit.
Brother, what you quoted does not refer to the Holy Spirit but to Jesus as our model "Spirit" to do the same as, made clear in the following passage. We also must obey the truth of the Sabbath in the second passage, "ready since God made the world" corrected from the human tradition since Joshua in the book of Hebrews under the new covenant.

But whenever someone turns to the Lord, the veil (not knowing they were disobeying the Ten Commandments) is taken away. For the Lord is the Spirit (Jesus is the model "Spirit" to follow who obeyed properly the Ten Commandments as our example and Paul is not referring to the Holy Spirit as an excuse to disobey the Ten Commandments), and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom (from sin and not from God's Ten Commandments). So all of us who have had that veil (not knowing they were disobeying the Ten Commandments) removed can see and reflect the glory (character) of the Lord (in obeying the Ten Commandments). And the Lord—who is the Spirit (Jesus is the model "Spirit" Paul is telling us to follow and not the Holy Spirit, whose job is to tell us things through prophets and remind us of Jesus as the model "Spirit" to follow)—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image. (2 Corinthians 3:16-18 NLT fixed and overlaid with commentary)

Jesus is the model "Spirit" to follow above and the Sabbath is corrected from human tradition since Joshua below, which gives us another "day" than the one thought since Joshua where the Sabbath falls in Jerusalem half a day before the seventh day of the week.

God’s promise of entering his rest still stands, so we ought to tremble with fear that some of you might fail to experience it. For this good news—that God has prepared this rest—has been announced to us just as it was to them. But it did them no good because they didn’t share the faith of those who listened to God. For only we who believe can enter his rest. As for the others, God said, “In my anger I took an oath: ‘They will never enter my place of rest,’” even though this rest has been ready since he made the world. We know it is ready because of the place in the Scriptures where it mentions the seventh day: “On the seventh day God rested from all his work.” But in the other passage God said, “They will never enter my place of rest.” So God’s rest is there for people to enter, but those who first heard this good news failed to enter because they disobeyed God. So God set another time for entering his rest, and that time is today. God announced this through David much later in the words already quoted: “Today when you hear his voice, don’t harden your hearts.” Now if Joshua had succeeded in giving them this rest, God would not have spoken about another day of rest still to come. So there is a special rest still waiting for the people of God. For all who have entered into God’s rest have rested from their labors, just as God did after creating the world. So let us do our best to enter that rest. But if we disobey God, as the people of Israel did, we will fall. (Hebrews 4:1-11 NLT)

They didn't know the way of peace. No rest for the wicked.

Isaiah 59 Behold, the Lord’s hand is not so short
That it cannot save;
Nor is His ear so dull
That it cannot hear.
2 But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God,
And your sins have hidden His [a]face from you so that He does not hear.
3 For your hands are defiled with blood
And your fingers with iniquity;
Your lips have spoken falsehood,
Your tongue mutters wickedness.
4 No one sues righteously and no one pleads [b]honestly.
They trust in confusion and speak lies;
They conceive mischief and bring forth iniquity.
5 They hatch adders’ eggs and weave the spider’s web;
He who eats of their eggs dies,
And from that which is crushed a snake breaks forth.
6 Their webs will not become clothing,
Nor will they cover themselves with their works;
Their works are works of iniquity,
And an act of violence is in their [c]hands.
7 Their feet run to evil,
And they hasten to shed innocent blood;
Their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity,
Devastation and destruction are in their highways.
8 They do not know the way of peace,
And there is no justice in their tracks;
They have made their paths crooked,
Whoever treads on [d]them does not know peace.

A Confession of Wickedness

9 Therefore justice is far from us,
And righteousness does not overtake us;
We hope for light, but behold, darkness,
For brightness, but we walk in gloom.
10 We grope along the wall like blind men,
We grope like those who have no eyes;
We stumble at midday as in the twilight,
Among those who are vigorous we are like dead men.
11 All of us growl like bears,
And moan sadly like doves;
We hope for justice, but there is none,
For salvation, but it is far from us.
12 For our transgressions are multiplied before You,
And our sins [e]testify against us;
For our transgressions are with us,
And [f]we know our iniquities:
13 Transgressing and denying the Lord,
And turning away from our God,
Speaking oppression and revolt,
Conceiving in and uttering from the heart lying words.
14 Justice is turned back,
And righteousness stands far away;
For truth has stumbled in the street,
And uprightness cannot enter.
15 Yes, truth is lacking;
And he who turns aside from evil makes himself a prey.
Now the Lord saw,
And it was [g]displeasing in His sight that there was no justice.
16 And He saw that there was no man,
And was astonished that there was no one to intercede;
Then His own arm brought salvation to Him,
And His righteousness upheld Him.
17 He put on righteousness like a breastplate,
And a helmet of salvation on His head;
And He put on garments of vengeance for clothing
And wrapped Himself with zeal as a mantle.
18 According to their [h]deeds, [i]so He will repay,
Wrath to His adversaries, recompense to His enemies;
To the coastlands He will [j]make recompense.
19 So they will fear the name of the Lord from the west
And His glory from the rising of the sun,
For He will come like a [k]rushing stream
Which the wind of the Lord drives.
20 “A Redeemer will come to Zion,
And to those who turn from transgression in Jacob,” declares the Lord.
21 “As for Me, this is My covenant with them,” says the Lord: “My Spirit which is upon you, and My words which I have put in your mouth shall not depart from your mouth, nor from the mouth of your [l]offspring, nor from the mouth of your [m]offspring’s offspring,” says the Lord, “from now and forever.”

Ok, sorry if I misunderstood what you were referring to. Paul doesn't mention the Sabbath in Romans 14 and Paul was a Sabbath keeper, if God was going to do away with one of His Ten Commandments, He would tell us in the same manner as they were given. We would not need to guess or speculate. God bless!

He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future. He will bring me glory by telling you whatever he receives from me. To be one with God. What does that mean? It's a work of God. It's all his work. We love God and each other with one mind just as we do one Spirit. Our love, mind, heart and spirit are one with Gods spirit. We love God with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength. We don't love God and the world. We dont love darkness and light. In God there is darkness or fellowship with darkness. To enter his rest we need fellowship with him. How can we find rest if we fellowship with darkness?

2 Corinthians 6:14 Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? 15 What harmony is there between Christ and Belial[b]? Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? 16 What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said:

“I will live with them
and walk among them,
and I will be their God,
and they will be my people.”[c]
17 Therefore,

“Come out from them
and be separate,
says the Lord.
Touch no unclean thing,
and I will receive you.”[d]
18 And,

“I will be a Father to you,
and you will be my sons and daughters,
says the Lord Almighty.”[e]

Brother, I am happy to hear that you follow the Ten Commandments, but there is one more commandment that Jesus has given us for a total of Eleven Commandments under the new covenant. To answer your question, Jesus' rest is found in the following passage and it is an addition to the Ten Commandments, but neither of these two "rest" types is an excuse to stop doing God's good works. Works given by God to help us gain mastery over sin! Neither of these two "rest" types accomplish freeing you to continue sinning by disobeying God's given good works, the one that is a "day" in the Fourth Commandment and the one that is not a "day" in the Eleventh Commandment. The "day" of rest is not like Judaism's view of doing no work at all on the Sabbath, when Jesus allows good works on the Sabbath. What God says we must stop doing on the Sabbath "day" are our own works that are different from God's good works. This other "rest" is not another "day" of "rest" like the Sabbath message in Hebrews.

Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30 NLT)

How do we rest? Scripture says we rest from ours works and do God's works that he created for us to do. So that must be our rest, right? Do i understand correctly? What are those works? Jesus said God's work is to believe in the one God sent. That one God sent in where we find rest. We go to him and He gives us that rest. He gives us grace. I can't quite grasp it all but when the Hebrews are urged to enter that rest he points them to the throne of Grace. Is this just for forgiveness or for our weakness too? It's a lot to grasp.

He doesnt contradict himself. The Jews were the contradiction. They were contrary to God. Look at Hebrews 12:3 which shows us this. Therefore God didn't give them his true Sabbath rest but a mere shadow as Paul called it. He said they will not enter his rest.

Hebrews 12:2 looking only at Jesus, the [a]originator and perfecter of the faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

3 For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you will not grow weary [b]and lose heart.

A Father’s Discipline

4 You have not yet resisted [c]to the point of shedding blood in your striving against sin; 5 and you have forgotten the exhortation which is addressed to you as sons,

“My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord,
Nor faint when you are punished by Him;
6 For whom the Lord loves He disciplines,
And He punishes every son whom He accepts.”
So you think God does contradict Himself. Jews have nothing to do with whether the Sabbath is true or not. Nothing. You, I and the Jews have no influence over spiritual truth whatsoever. The Bible is true or it isn't. The Sabbath is true or it isn't. Humanity has no influence on truth or error.

The throne of grace is something I've never thought much on. But now I'm looking at grace. I believe the throne of grace is for forgiveness but also for weakness. So do we enter his rest with these things below ?

2 Corinthians 12:8 Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. 9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 10 That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

You can obey the Saturday sabbath. No one is stopping you. But you know that's not his true Sabbath rest, so you need that too.

No, no one can stop me. I have His rest because I keep the Sabbath. God does not contradict Himself as you believe He does.

Here is how we enter His rest.

John 15: 5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

Galations 5: 19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

Without Christ we can do nothing. But through the power of the HS we can live without breaking any law. The no law in verse 23 includes the 10 commandments. So we can keep the 10 commandments by resting in the power of Christ found in the HS.

Ok but I see it as grace and walking in the works God prepared for me.

Jesus said that those who teach and do his commands in Matthew 5-7; will He considered the wisest and greatest in the kingdom. Sabbath isn't mentioned there. I see grace though. I see the way of peace. Forgive and you will be forgiven. Don't judge or condemn. Seek the kingdom and his righteousness. Do not love the world but serve the master. That is love for Jesus.

So do I. But it is based upon the strength of our relationship with God. John tells us the following.

John 17: 1 These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:
2 As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.
3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

Just knowing God personally is the only way to be saved. It goes right along with Paul's statements in Galatians. Since just knowing God saves us it means we play no part in our salvation other than choosing to get to know Him personally.
