Can you please state your support for President Biden’s re election without mentioning Trump or Democracy?
I can with one minor clarification, I support policy/ideals and not individual candidates/politicians.
First: Fiscal repsonsibility. Since World War II only one president has had a balanced budget containing a surplus on spending. That was D- Bill Clinton. Deficit spending by president beginning in 1980: Reagan increased the deficit 142%, Bush the first 36% increase, already mentioned Clinton had a 1% decrease with a surplus in 98, 99, 2000 and 2001. W. Bush increased the deficit 57% Obama 58% increase overall, but did cut deficits his last 4 years. The one who can't be mentioned increased the deficit 33%.
When it comes to taxes in general, Democrats are often labled "tax and spend" and to a large degree that is true. The GOP on the other hand; cuts revenue and spends just as much, if not more. If fiscal matters, matter, you can't vote for the GOP.
Second: Social Security and Medicare. Regardless of the shenanigans by some house members on the house floor during the State of the Union speech by the current White House occupant, the GOP's stated goals include cuts and changing the retirement age from the current 66-67 to 70, 70+. Democrats, tend to favor raising the cap on withholdings. Currently the cap is $160,200. Which means, a person earning 14 million a year contributes the same into SS as the person earning 160K. Biden's proposed change on the cap for those above 400K is a good plan. If Social Security is an issue for you, you must avoid voting for the GOP.
Third: Healthcare the GOP has no plan nor intent. They favor status quo with insurance companies and health conglomerates calling the shots. The US spends more than any other nation on earth in healthcare and does not have the results to show for it. Yes, the US has some great healthcare facilities and practiotioners but it's only for those who can afford it. At least the democrats are willing to take on the discussion. On this issue I roll in related sidebar items such as prescription drugs, vaccinations and mental health issues. Point Democrat.
Fourth: Immigration Reform. In 2013 (three years before the unmentionable one) a bi-partisan group of Senators brought foth a comprehensive piece of legislation addressing immigration reform. It included a variety of border measures, it would have added up to 40,000 border patrol agents and had a host of new policies concerning legal immigration (visas, green cards etc). This bill passed in the Senate by a vote of 68-32.
The bill was not considered by United States House of Representatives with R-John Boehner never putting it forward for debate. again, the GOP falls flat with it's one pet project being the only remedy.
Fifth: Family concerns such as Child Tax Credits, Pre K, and Family Leave are items Democrats are willing to discuss. The GOP can only say they are against all of the above.
Sixth: Gun violence. One party is willing to discuss it. The other puts their head in the sand. In a similar way that Americans have accepted that a significant portion of us will die in auto related incidents, one party is insisting we accept that a significant portion of our children will die in gun violence. At least with automobiles there are mechanisms utilized with the intent of lowering the carnage.
It's not that I support Biden. It's that I can not support the GOP.
