He could make good deals but also rejected $5B for The Wall that Pelosi/Schumer had worked out because it contained provisions for the DACA “dreamers”.

I distinctly remember his making a deal that included appropriations for his big beautiful border wall - then reneging on it and shutting down the government himself (which he first bragged about and then tried to pin it on Pelosi) and ultimately wound up with considerably less for the wall.

"I don't even want to think about something lasting until January or April. That would be folly," Representative Andy Biggs told Politico, adding that there are at least five Republicans who don't want to see another stopgap measure into January. The speaker added that “many options … are on the table and we’ll be revealing what our plan is in short order.”

“We don’t know what [Johnson’s] plan will be to keep government operational come next Friday, and he’s under a lot of pressure to maintain his position as speaker with the conservatives in the House,” said G. William Hoagland, senior vice president for the Bipartisan Policy Center, a Washington-based think tank. “We are in a very difficult situation for keeping the government funded.”

Senate eyes huge ‘maxi-bus’ to address year-end spending crunch​

Combining the remaining nine appropriations bills into a massive package and bringing it to the floor would give them a chance to make up for lost time.

“Instead of a minibus, it’s a maxi-bus. I’m in favor of it. I think it’s the right thing to do,” Sen. Mike Rounds (R-S.D.) said.

When omnibus spending packages have moved in the Senate in past years, they have done so after Senate and House appropriators had a chance to at least exchange conference notes, according to one Senate appropriations veteran.

If lawmakers don’t get their work done, they face the prospect of a government shutdown or the passage of an extended stopgap measure that keeps government funding frozen — or possibly cuts current levels — until next year.

House Republicans on Thursday pulled their third government funding vote in two weeks due to threats from moderates and conservatives to kill the legislation.
The House had been scheduled to vote on the Financial Services and General Government appropriations bill on Tuesday morning, but the vote was abruptly cancelled.

Republican leadership also pulled votes last week and this week on a bill funding the Departments of Transportation and Housing and Urban Development.
