  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Yes, of course. All those years of TV coverage of the Apollo program when I was growing up, and my father-in-law's work on the camera that went to the moon, and all the displays I've seen at NASA-Langley and NASA-Houston and the Smithsonian... sure, in theory, it could be an elaborate illusion, but that would involve the secret collaboration of very many people over many decades, which is hard for me to believe.

The social challenge of getting so many thousands of people all on board to propagate the same preposterous lie, and to stay there for decades - under the whole worlds scrutiny, is vastly harder than the engineering challenges of actually getting to the moon.

Yes, to pull of a hoax in this regard it would have taken the "buy in" from thousands that participated in it .. which is ridiculous to believe.

Absolutely correct. And aside from all the people involved, imagine the expense. The full 13 year Apollo program cost nearly $26 billion. ($250 billion in today's dollars.) There were 10 preliminary flights before the Apollo 11 landing. And 5 more lunar landings after Apollo 11. Were all these also faked? Why would the government spend so much money, time, and energy on a fabrication?

There were 10 scheduled flights but Apollo 1 (I believe) had its crew die on the launchpad during training, due to a fire in the 100% oxygen atmosphere they had been using in the command module.

No, I don't believe it. We all know the Capricorn One mission to the Moon was all tricked out with camera work and made to "look" like it happened. But it didn't. THAT'S THE TRUTH!!!! I mean, these sort of things don't write themselves ... Of course it was a hoax, just like everything else science does. Or that Hollywood does.
