I hate to say this but I DEFINITELY have a problem. I'm addicted to video games. Not playing them because I only really play video games when my wife is at work and for an hour or two after work. I don't spend 18-20 hours a day playing video games anymore like I did for most of my child and young adulthood.
But I'm addicted to Google play and Kongregate games. Basically games that are "pay to win" where you have to spent thousands of dollars to really get anywhere in the game. But, I just hate being somebody who plays these kind of games "for free". While you certainly are within your rights to play them for free I think of that as taking advantage of video game developers who spend years of their life making video games for other people to enjoy. I mean, making video games is not an easy task whatsoever. It's time consuming and requires a lot of programmers and money to keep online video games afloat. So while I do get a high from being boosted in the game I do it to support the developers
Imo there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. But, then there's me who is majorly addicted to spending money on video games. I added my Google play balance from April 23rd of this year and I spent $8,050.05 since April 23rd just on google play. I made at the time like 10k a year from ssi. Thats a LOT of money and the worst part is, most of this money i was spending from my SSI check and i was spending probably 90% of my income at the time just on video games because thanks to my disability I had gotten free money and I had to spend it or the government would take it away from me. So why not spend it on supporting video game developers and giving them a salary?
Again, nothing wrong with my motivations what's wrong with me is this addiction. I don't want to quit video games because a majority of my friends and spouse play video games. But I do want to quit spending money on video games or at least play video games with a flat monthly fee or better yet, only cost $60-$80 and you can play them forever.
I actually don't want to know how much money I've stuck into video games during my entire life. It honestly wouldn't surprise me if I've spent well over 100k playing video games. Just, wouldn't surprise me. It's probably a lot higher than that. I'm just... addicted and I can't stop. Now that my spouse is working i can't spend our money on video games anymore. Especially when our goal is for her to make enough for me not needing SSI anymore. It would be nice to be able to save money without the government breathing down my neck saying "spend this money or we're taking it away from you." Just... not a good place to be in at all.
