That wasn't the point.
When has any minority party member crossed over to vote for the other party's speaker of the house?
When they complain that "nothing is getting done" and are claiming to be so fearful about a govt. shutdown.

Whatever the exact number, the democrats have a larger number of members in the House who continue to vote against having a speaker by voting for a guy who they know won't win.
How do they know he won't win? You said yourself, all it needs is a few people to cross-party vote.

So it hasn't happened.

Nor have party members voted against their pre-selected candidate for the position.

He won't win because he's not even with the majority party.

Pre-selected=pre-determined?
Is that why they always vote as if with a hive-mind?

That's how it has worked historically. The Conference meets in private, hash out who will be leader, take a vote. The winner is then supported by the entire conference on the House Floor vote.

In this case that was Scalise. The burn-it-all-down contigent ignored tradition and history.

There's no rule that says the Speaker must come from the majority party.
And there's no rule that says a democrat can't vote for the Republican for speaker who has the majority of the votes in order to move things forward (and prevent the so-called govt. shutdown they claim to be afraid of).

Why are you employing Bernie Sanders rhetoric?

Yes, it may come to that (thanks to the behavior of certain Republicans). However, that will require selecting a candidate that at least some Democrats will support. It won't be McCarthy, Scalise or Jordan.

How about Donald Trump for speaker? Sounds reasonable to me.

Do you want Democrats to vote for a Republican speaker or not? Comments like this just can't be taken seriously. Pick a lane.
Who's Elaine?
Anyway, who do you believe would be a Republican that would be "reasonable" for a democrat to vote for in order to avoid a govt. shutdown (which they'd blame on Republicans no matter what)?

Wasn't it the so-called "burn it all down" folks who wanted Jordan? They obviously aren't the ones who voted against him.
