  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hamas can't be totally defeated militarily.
They can be diminished to the point that they are irrelevant but as long as they exist they will live to kill Jews. That’s the only thing that matters to them

Israel needs to focus exclusively on hunting down all of the terrorists responsible for the attack, including the leadership of Hamas, and holding them accountable. Israel also needs to stop the influx of outside funding from countries like Iran.
Well they've already had a blockade, and everyone criticizes Israel for that. It's not even just Iranian money though. The Palestinians are the most well-paid "refugees" in the world. Many nations give them money, and Hamas ultimately controls it and puts in into military projects.
Bombing Gaza and punishing everyone living there for the actions of Hamas isn't going to destroy Hamas or end future terror attacks against Israel.
It's not Israel's fault that civilian people and property are used as shields. No civilians are being "punished".
As I said in the post you quoted, the current approach is only going to exacerbate long-standing grievances between the Palestinians and Israel, and until those grievances are addressed, terrorist attacks against Israel will continue.
I'm not sure how they can get more exacerbated.
To defeat Hamas, Israel has to make supporting and joining them less attractive to Palestinians and potential recruits. This can be done by Israel recognizing and respecting a Palestinian state and improving the lives of the Palestinian people. Israel will need to play a direct role in rebuilding Gaza and improving infrastructure once the dust settles from this most recent bombardment. This, along with supporting economic development and offering livelihood opportunities, would go a long way in changing the attitude and mindset of those who live in Gaza. If Israel can show that they care more about the Palestinian people than Hamas, then Hamas will lose the support of the Palestinian people and their primary recruiting tool. This is the only way to destroy Hamas. To make this happen, it will take a concerted effort by the Israeli government, the UN, NGO's, and the Palestinians themselves.
I don't think you understand. Hamas has a charter. In the original charter they didn't even call for a Palestinian state. They state clearly in the first sentence what they're about - they seek to obliterate Israel.

A blockade, which is a form of collective punishment against all Palestinians, is not focusing exclusively on hunting down Hamas terrorists and their leadership.

No civilians are being "punished".
Have you been paying attention to what's been happening in Israel and the Palestinian territories?

I'm not sure how they can get more exacerbated.
They can, and unfortunately they probably will.

Hamas has a charter. In the original charter they didn't even call for a Palestinian state. They state clearly in the first sentence what they're about - they seek to obliterate Israel.
This is exactly why Hamas must be eradicated.

They have one purpose, kill all the Jewish people.

Unfortunately Israel is in the position a lot of individuals find themselves in, only they are dealing with it on a national, existential level, which is far worse.

There are people called "difficult" in life. For me, a "difficult" person is a person which fumes with envy and persecutes you when you succeed, and mocks and celebrates when you lose. It's a "no win" situation, which is why the person is called "difficult."

Israel is seen as an aberration and a persecutor of Muslims in the region that they believe is the center of Islam. Many Muslims are offended that a Jewish state even exists in the Middle East. All they need to see are images of mosques being destroyed by Israeli planes in Gaza and that will throw them over the top in calls to wipe out the Jewish state.

Israel and its people, nationally, are in the "no win" situation. If they act in a "humane" way, and exercise restraint and patience, they will immediately be annihilated by the surrounding enemies, whether foreign states or terrorist organizations. This is because Israel's enemies sense weakness, and restraint in the face of the Sukkot massacre would be interpreted as evidence that the time to eradicate Israel has come.

However, if Israel chooses to fight for its national survival and bomb the hell out of its enemies, it also risks and even invites total war and annihilation by its enemies. Personally, I would go down fighting. The rallying cry for the Jews when they formed the state was, "never again" referring to the Holocaust.

If I have to go down, I'd like to go down swinging.

Which country dropped nukes on two large cities in Japan?
The one trying to end a war as quickly and with as little bloodshed as possible.

After what happened on Okinawa, not dropping the bombs would have immoral. There might have been 5,000,000 more dead after and invasion of the homeland.

BBC is reporting:

US sends second aircraft carrier to region - Pentagon

The US has announced it is sending a second aircraft carrier to the region in order "to deter hostile actions against Israel", according to a statement from the Pentagon.
The USS Eisenhower aircraft carrier is being despatched to the eastern Mediterranean to support the USS Gerald R Ford and its accompanying warships, which are already in the region, it says.

Iran warns the situation could 'spiral out of control'

Iran's mission to the United Nation says that "if Israel's war crimes and genocide are not halted immediately, the situation could spiral out of control and ricochet far-reaching consequences".
In a post on X, the mission wrote that if that happens, "the responsibility lies with the UN, the Security Council and the states steering the Council toward a dead end".

Excuse me, but did the Iranian regime just accuse the Jews of wanting to "genocide" the Palestinians? Haven't they made it the entire goal of their government to wipe out Israel?

Israel's monitoring included shooting Palestinian paramedics and their vehicles when they tended to the wounded, maiming male teenagers by shooting live rounds at the knees, using live rounds at demonstrators, causing deaths and also using live rounds at anyone they "think" looks suspicious.

Do this long enough, months, years, what do you think will happen? Palestinians will throw you flowers and letters of appreciation?

That was the news the day Israel was attacked when the casualties on both sides are still "just" in the dozens. The news was fairly neutral but now, it has become one-sided when the casualties have piled up and now they blame is entirely on the Palestinians.

Yet, many people in the world don't feel the same about the one-sided news. All the world leaders, sure, even the unbelievers and Muslim leaders are crying for Israel. Yet, the faceless crowd are more evenly split. They are crying for both sides.

Keep searching for more news if you wish to see everything that is going on.

I've worked two years in the Middle East, in Saudi. I've been able to make casual conversation with many Yemenis and Palestinians who also goes to Saudi to work for better salary. Vast majority of them don't have a death wish and certainly don't want to become terrorists. They just want to take care of their families by driving taxis, working construction - legitimate jobs to get by NOT by carrying a gun or strapping explosives to their bodies.

They're not hateful people, they don't hate Christians. My Arab co-workers knows I'm a Christian, yet they made friends with me, invites me to their parties, even treats me to free breakfast and lunch often.

They even sometimes think I'm a Jew because I look a bit like a Jew but never took my Jewish appearance against me. Most of them are just innocents. You'll never know and never understand until you worked with them for an appreciable length of time.

The real issue here is that surrounding Arab countries, annoyed by inept Palestinian leaders over decades, have shut their borders to Palestinian refugees. They have nowhere to go to find work or indeed a peaceful life. So the pressure in overcrowded places like Gaza just builds and builds and terrorists get the support of an angry and frustrated people. Open the borders and the problem bleeds away. Israel has a right to exist.

One theory doing the rounds here in Germany is that Iran supported this attack by Hamas with a view to breaking the rapprochement process between Israel and Iran's arch-rival Saudia Arabia.

Another consideration here is the end game in Gaza. Nobody wants to govern the place. Neither Israel nor Egypt because it is a disaster waiting to happen. It is a money pit, a cesspool of terrorism, and is looking at a major humanitarian crisis in years to come because of massive overcrowding, inadequate infrastructure, and overcrowding. Israel can easily remove Hamas but then what follows? The basic problem of Gaza remains unless neighboring Arab countries open their borders.

Israel wouldn't be using $100,000 missiles to target vehicles. More than likely they would be using JDAMs which cost around $20,000. Still a lot of money, but when you have a friend like the US providing billions in military aid, 20K is nothing.
My point was that Israel would not target an ambulance for the simple fact it is not a military threat. There are much bigger fish to fry in Gaza than an ambulance.

I am pretty sure it was not the country that initiated the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor and had the military philosophy of death before surrender and brutalizing POW's......but I am just guessing here.

We cannot accept people from Gaza into this country as refugees,” [Ron DeSantis] said. “If you look how they behave … not all of them are Hamas but they are all antisemitic, none of them believe in Israel’s right to exist.”

The New York Post reported on Saturday that House Republicans had introduced new legislation to prevent the United States from accepting any new Palestinian refugees who might be fleeing the crisis in Gaza.
