  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Really? You are not allowed to travel to where prostitution is legal to do it?
It is legal in some countries to have sex with underage children. Should it be legal to go to said country and have sex with an underage person?

Sex tourism is illegal... why not abortion tourism?

Not irrelevant.
If I can travel from one state where abortion is legal to get an abortion in another state, then that could potentially be construed as "interstate commerce." Whether or not it's illegal in a specific state is unimportant because we're not referring to any specific case where that actually happened (since the clinic doesn't even exist yet). And, as I've already pointed out multiple times, there are other possible reasons for bringing in the interstate commerce factor that have absolutely nothing to do with abortion. Without reading the indictment, this is all speculation.

If it was illegal to do that, that would mean the laws of your country have jurisdiction everywhere in the world. And every other countrys laws have jurisdiction here. Im not sure we want to go there.

We might just have to accept that there are different rules in different places, for better or worse.

But that is the law in the US. Sorry, but keep your underage nookie at home or 18 USC 2423 will come for you.

Yes in the US. Dont violate US law in the US.

But if youre 18 you can go drink beers in Amsterdam and not worry about facing the law when you come home to Florida.

You should read the code before commenting on it.

If you travel for illicit sex outside the US you face 30 years.

If people want to talk about crossing international boundaries for illegal activity, go make a thread for it. Not the topic here.
It became the topic because of how people directed the conversation. It is now part of the conversation.

Its a specific application of law. It does not make all domestic illegal activity also illegal to do elsewhere.

As the concept applies to this case, most states allow you to travel elsewhere for an abortion. So theres your interstate commerce I guess.

I never said it did.

I don't agree with your assessment of the current state of affairs in the US.

You say most states... so if some states outlaw transport for an abortion you would back that?

That is the point I was making about interstate commerce.

Would it not just be crossing state lines to conduct commerce? Nothing complicated there.
It is not. Something can affect interstate commerce even if it itself does not cross state lines or people cross state lines to be there.

Would I back what? States outlawing going to other states for an abortions? No. I think abortion should be legal roughly like it was under Roe.

But even if some states outlaw it, its still interstate commerce if others dont.
