Is there a link to any article where someone who remained outside the capital, peacefully protesting was arrested or jailed? All the sentencing I have seen so far did not meet the above criteria.

Is the objective to establish guilt or to get a conviction? I went to a garage sale once in a new house in a million-dollar neighborhood. A women lived there with her four teenage daughters. I found out that her boyfriend was chief of police. I found it interesting that he had that much money to provide her with a house that expensive. I never saw the daughter, so I do not know if there was anything going on there, but I suspect there was.

I have had two different detectives in two different cities tell me that it is too difficult to get a conviction. If they are convinced that a person is guilty then they will set them up to get a conviction. I am not convinced that the criminal justice system is just at all. You do not have to be a warmonger to get a Gov job, but veterans do get priority.

He was convicted of conspiracy. He conspired with those who did directly attack the Capitol. There was a whole trial and everything.

Guilt must be established (beyond a reasonable doubt, does that ring a bell) to get a conviction. The two go together.

There is no such crime. Pence swore an oath to protect and defend the Constitution, not undying loyalty to the President. No one who swears an oath to the US does so to the President. They claim we have the constitutional right to peaceful demonstration yet they hand out extreme prison time to anyone that takes them up on their offer to demonstrate. The most they should get is 5 years. 1 year should satisfy everyone. Most rioting charges are 180 days and $2000 fine.

Far to many people are put in prison and far to little is done to rehabilitate them. A lot of that is because Science has fallen short on understanding why people are violent and what to do about it. It goes back to the primitive brain and the hunter gather days. The advance brain has to learn how to control the primitive brain.
