  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hey everyone!

I’m so happy to post again,I haven’t posted recently because I haven’t had any anxiety!, praise the Lord!,.

As the title says I turn 21 today, today is my birthday, and needless to say because of the title im very scared about alcohol.I my entire youthood life have heard and read the horror stories about alcohol and it’s destructive tendencies.Contrary to the mindset I had 3 years ago when I couldn’t wait to drink, now 3 years later,I have a mindset completely different,I’ve made the heart choice to avoid alcohol entirely, and only drink wine and alcohol free beer.I know the two contain alcohol, one minimal amounts and the other is stated in the Bible.

I’ve read stories of men being raging alcoholics and abusing their wives,I’ve heard and read stories of people drinking and diving and killing people,I’ve heard stories of the horrible things it does to the mind and body.

I’m not just worried,I’m scared of losing control and becoming addicted to it.Ive never been one to fear an object, but I fear alcohol dreadfully.
Could anyone please offer some advice on this matter?

Hello,

Merry birth anniversary!

I've also heard many horror stories about alcohol and its destructive tendencies and I did not want to invite that into my life. As a result, I did not start drinking until after I was 39 and got married to someone who has a tradition of drinking some wine to celebrate the Sabbath. If it ever became a problem, then I would stop, but I have been doing that for over a year now and so far I've found that it has not been as bad as I thought it was going to be.

If you ever decide to drink alcohol, then I would advise sticking to a hard limit of how much you drink at a certain time. Drink only to celebrate something with friends and family at home and never to numb your feelings by yourself. Alcohol affects people differently, so if it ever causes you to lose control, then be willing to stop.

I had similar concerns at your age. The solution turned out to be simple: just don't drink it. I'm in my 40s now and have never touched the stuff. Turns out you can survive just fine without alcohol! Who knew?

It sounds ike you've been paying attention. You probably know a few alcoholics so just look at their lives that they lead. Drama drama drama DUI DUI DUI. Do you want that future?

I drank like a fish when I was 14-15 but got it all out of my system before I came of age. Both of my brothers are alcoholics. Both have a long list of DUI's. I have never ever had a DUI in my entire life. I shook it off. I'm not weird about it, I like a nice cold beer in the hottest part of the summer. I usually go through one 6-pack per summer. And the Wife wasn't a big drinker either. She liked to make mixed drinks around the holidays when company came around. One or two is my limit.

I seen the alcoholics all around me when I was about to come of age. I just decided that, that's not the guy that I wanted to be.

Nothing wrong with alcohol. Dont be scared of it. I hardly ever drink these days. I will have a drink now and again.

You dont need alcohol but, you shouldnt be worried about it.

Jesus and His Apostles drank alcohol. Its all down to why you drink it and how you drink it.

Many people go off of the rails because of alcohol. But then again, many dont!

Put your trust in God. Lay your concerns at His feet.

If you dont want to touch the stuff, then dont.

God bless

And why do you need to drink alcohol?

Imagine a question "I am scared about junk food" or "I am scared about smoking". So what? Its unhealthy anyway.

You are not obligated to go drink.

However, to overcome your fear, try the following: when you don't have to go anywhere have a sip, stay home, and see how it affects you.

I keep a bottle of red wine in the frige. The only time I ever drink it is when I take communion.

I used to use ritz crackers but saw 1000 church type wafers for communion and were cheap so I bought them too. Just in case a crowd shows up sometime wanting to take communion. Kinda far fetched but I'm ready!

This is the Lord's blood.
This is the Lord's body.
Thank you Lord!

I
f doctors say an ounce of wine per day is healthy for you then it is good to take communion every day. Makes sense.

True story!

I always buy the cheap red wine because I am a poor man, lol. But one time I did not choose wisely and that wine tasted nasty! So I prayed over it for the Lord to make it palatable, and the next time I took communion, that wine tasted very good! Praise the Lord indeed!

My mother died due to alcoholism when I was 13. She was just 47. I decided at that young age that I would never drink. Nothing against those who do. I have other vices I battle....

My dad was physically and verbally abusive for the almost 30 years I lived with my parents. All because of alcohol. So when I turned 21 I bought a bottle of vodka and it took over 10 years to drink the whole bottle. And my dad drank over half of it too. I do drink but I drink very seldomly. I have a drink maybe once every 8 months or so.

Just because you're 21 doesn't mean that you have to drink or that you have to drink a lot.

There's absolutely NOTHING wrong with drinking if you do it occasionally and don't drink enough to get you drunk.

Its harmful effects even in small doses aside, alcohol is addictive for many people, so even "mild" drinking is dangerous.

Then God has the wrong idea when he drinks wine because even God drinks alcohol without sinning. It CAN be addictive but really most of the time people don't get addicted to it. It's people who use alcohol to get away from their problems that are bad and at the most risk of drinking in excess.

God also fasted for 40 days. Does it mean its not dangerous?

The problem with "if you drink just a little, its OK" is that it simply does not work. Most people do not have discipline. "Drinking sugary drinks just a bit is OK, eating junk food just from time to time is OK", "smoking just a bit is fine"... and after a decade, we have half of the population obese, most of the population metabolically unhealthy and 2/3 of population with mental disorders.

Addictive things simply cannot be recommended in small doses. Not in our current society of weak-willed people.

As one of those "weak-willed" people who has a inherited a proclivity towards binge drinking and lives an culture that is built entirely around it; there's something to be said about the pervasiveness and corruption of our current society that didn't exist in former days. The access to alcohol and it's many forms doesn't even require you to leave your home now. Combined with the fact alcohol is currently much stronger than the wine suggested in the Bible, I tend to agree with your conclusion but not the fullness of your reasoning which gets you there (though I do agree with most of it).

If you don't drink alcohol then you have no worries .... if you do then becoming addicted is a possibility. It's a pretty simple choice ... eliminate the possibility ..... or not. Eliminate the worry or not.

As a recovered alcoholic and Bible-believing born-again Christian, my two cents… abstinence is not a sin, and it’s the first drink that gets you drunk. Do with that real-life experience what you will. Happy birthday!

It's entirely your choice, and it sounds like you already made it. Having a glass of wine with supper isn't bad, but drinking too much can lead to spiritual and physical problems. Limit yourself if you ever do choose to drink.

God bless
