  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

We should completely ignore China in regards to anything America. our history and lives are incompatible, like apples and watermelons.
Then why the support for a candidate who says he wants to copy one of China's real estate policies?

What if some democratic politicians jump on board with Trump’s plan, and attempt working with him... Could it work if both parties got involved in this?
Not if we "completely ignore" the reality when another country tried something similar and failed.

I don't think you realize the magnitude of the difference between how many homes Communist China has built compared to the United States. The fact is, we are so far behind where we should be, it's almost inconceivable. China has used more concrete in a 3 year span that the US used in the entire 20th century.

I really don't think you want to use China as a factor in your arguments for several reasons. First of which is that all land ownership in China is reserved, exclusively, for the government... Nobody is allowed to own land there, so the houses are all built on rented properties.

...We really shouldn't compare apples to watermelons.

Why does that mean we can't compare their government's plans to build cities in the middle of nowhere with Donald's?

Why do you prefer highlighting China's failures over their successes? Or even the successes of Saudi Arabia?

...I think I know why - because this isn't Joe Biden's idea, so therefore it must be likened to that which is bad.

I don't actually think that, however I really don't want to see co-living apartments as the future, which is basically what we're looking at when prices are so high, people have to resort to renting rooms.

We're starting to see more of these popping up in Los Angeles, which is cool and all if people like the idea of moving in with strangers, but I wouldn't want to make it the 'norm', to where families are seen as old fashioned - which is essentially what we're doing when we reject "urban sprawl" entirely.

Urban sprawl is actually intensifying the problem, because it forces poor and lower-middle-class people into that type of housing.

I'd like to see the explanation on how flooding the housing market with 2 times as many homes would force anyone into co-living. It doesn't seem logical.

The real lack of housing is affordable housing, which usually means smaller homes and more density (since most of the value of a home is in land).

During the early 2000's housing boom, they didn't build enough affordable housing. In fact, they haven't built affordable housing on any kind of scale since the 1960's.

Nothing prevents the GOP House from proposing legislation to enact this quixotic plan.

I feel like you're looking over your shoulder, and not ahead... By flooding the market, everything becomes cheaper due to supply and demand changes, which means, this makes housing more affordable.

Land won't suddenly become cheaper. And that's a huge part of the cost of a home.

Speaking of land, as yet unanswered is where all these vacant plots of government owned land with the resources for a city are hidden at.

China could build alot of new cities because areas they built up used to be rural or much smaller cities. A city like Shenzen, now a huge trading and manufacturing hub, didn't even really exist 30 years ago.

I'd like to see reasons why a masterplanned city, built an a previously uninhabited area, is unlikely to take-off aside from claims that we "haven't seen it before"... Realistically, we *have* seen it before... I can tell you that my ancestors left their native countries and came here to the United States, before there was anything here... My ancestors surveyed the land, and then began building New Amsterdam...

Does it really even matter though, outside the attainment of resources, considering our population is literally starving for real estate?

The market can easily absorb a doubling of inventory.” - Lawrence Yun, chief economist for the Realtors.

That's all I ask... That if Trump should win the 2024 election, that people not stand in his way from attempting this out of spite. Actual concerns though, should be welcomed and discussed.
