Homebuilder confidence jumps to highest level in 20 years

My mom was raised in a house only slightly bigger than that. Americans used to have more modest expectations for home sizes. The US government also subsidized alot of GI tract housing, which is exactly what my parents had.

The government subsidizes our GI tracts in a number of ways.

yeah I could see 1 1/2 people living in this.....

Something that small is a little ridiculous especially when all those external finishes make the $/sq ft cost skyrocket, but 450-500 sq ft is perfectly reasonable for a single person or a couple, even a couple with a small child. Most of the rowhouses here in Baltimore are under 1500 sq ft, some as small as 825, (mine is about 1425) and this is plenty of space. We could even rent out a bedroom or two if we wanted.
