  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Licorice has the most calories or sugar 0f any candy. I don't remember which one. How will it kill you. Thank you for saying red isn't licorice. What in the world, why are they calling it licorice?

Licorice contains glycyrrhizic acid, which can cause swelling and high blood pressure and deplete potassium and other electrolytes that may cause a cardiac arrhythmia or arrest.

When I was little and sick in bed (chickenpox), someone gave me a pack of Blackjack licorice gum. I was certain it would not be good, but I loved it. I rarely see Blackjack anymore. I'm not a fan of red licorice, though. Does it taste the same? I don't think so.

I’m not sure the origin of red “licorice “ getting its name but it is most definitely not licorice. I don’t like the taste of licorice so I won’t eat it. I do like the red candy (Red Vines) but I don’t eat that either because it’s pretty much pure sugar.

Thanks for that, after i ate 5 pieces or so, lol
I don't think it's an issue unless absurd amounts are consumed. Although if you have some serious cardiovascular problem, then you might want to avoid it. I haven't eaten any myself in ages so I'll have to look for some.

I forgot about blackjack.
When in highschool the biggest exciting thing to do was to soak toothpicks in annis oil. Boy were they a hit. It was hard to buy it. If i remember correctly we got it at a pharmacy?
Then one night we went to outback and my daughter said they had a drink that was just like licorice. I asked the server and she denied they had an annis drink? Never found out what the deal was but it was so good.. it was probably some kind of wine.

Mostly you can find all the red you want. I grabbed the black up when it was at fry's recently. The usual red and black package

They have or had Twizzlers in the vending machine at work, so I've gotten a packet of that now and then. There's no Fry's here, but a drug store sounds like a good place to look now that you mention it.

See, that's what i mean, it's a strange candy with diverse reactions.
To me licorice is something that tastes bad and good at the same time. I feel the same way about green olives. I probably only wanted the licorice gum when I was little because it had a picture of a kid pirate. I doubt I knew what it tasted like.
