  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What we are seeing time and time again is the Supreme Court of the United States does not care what is best for the American people if it is dominated by conservative justices. Affirmative action is the only way thousands of black and brown students can get into 4-year colleges. What the Supreme Court wants to do is go back to the bad old days when 100% of college students were rich white men.

No, I do not believe high school students should be accepted at colleges just because they are black or brown. But this racist ruling means they lost their chances at equal opportunities because of systemic racial discrimination in lower education, housing, child care, and employment. To make sure everyone has an equal opportunity of going to college, we first need to solve the problems that forced Congress to make affirmative actions laws in the 1960s.
Actually, no if black and brown students earn it on their merit then by all means they should be able to attend any college they want just like any white student. At the same time no student black, brown, white or purple should be allowed in a college or job on anything other than merits. I am white, but do happen to be disabled another group that people claim sometimes ought to get additional shots by requiring a certain number, Nope if I meet the qualiftions for a job/program then by all means I have the right to apply and maybe get in if not then my disability should not give me extra points as it were to help me.

Think about the systemic racism preventing black and brown people from getting jobs and scholarships. What don't you understand about the extremely obvious, repeatedly proven fact racial discrimination in every facet of American life continues to exist?

When there is no such thing as discrimination against any human demographic anymore, we can talk about getting rid of gimmies.
There will be racism sexism ECT until Jesus comes back it is part of living in a fallen world. There are no amount of laws you can pass to get rid of such things. Now, you may can make it harder for people to be overtly racist, but that will be part of life in a fallen world always has been and always will be

No, it's not. It's discrimination based on skin color. It's done for a very good reason, to promote black representation to counter serious imbalances, but it's still discrimination. It's a violation of equal protection, since people who would otherwise be qualified are denied simply because of the color of their skin, to accommodate racial quotas.
thank you either way it is racism the only difference is it is a different race. The ONLY way to get things as equal as they can be in this fallen world is for equality to be just that that means that everyone is equal not that anyone has a leg up on the basis of ANY kind of protected class. No things like wealth are not a protected class as unfair as it can sometimes be that people with money have a better chance.

Let us use the example of Harvard where whites consitute less than 40% of the student body.
====================================
What is the racial makeup of Harvard?

As of Fall 2020, the ethnic breakdown of Harvard undergraduates is approximately 39.6% White, 27.5% Asian, 10.8% Hispanic/Latino, 9.3% African American, 2.2% Native American/Alaskan Native/Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander, and 10.6% mixed-race or unknown (Data acquired from the Harvard College).May 4, 2023
====================================
IMO, the issue is NOT that colleges are not forced to take enough black students. Colleges are very mixed in most parts of the country. The issue is that colleges are for the RICH. Many, many of the black students are Harvard are from rich families. Having quotas that favor Barrack's and Michelle's students is NOT the answer.

If colleges were biased in favor of admitting poor students (especially poor urban students) and giving them scholarships, the result would be a HIGHER percentage of blacks. Obviously, removing the almost automatic admission of legacy students would be a step forward.
=====================
If the poor student meets the other requirements then they have the right to be admitted that is what non need based admission means they do not consider need when admitting students.

The biggest obstacle to job placement is not knowing someone in the organization doing the hiring, regardless of your color. There is no systemic racism... that is only liberal ballast for what is now their sinking ship.
Yes, fairly or unfairly many times it comes down to who you know more than what you know (particularly in tighter nit organizations)

If you graduated from high school, you know affirmative action laws were created because employers, schools, and everyone else was discriminating on the single basis of a person's skin color and without it no black or brown people would have any opportunities to go to schools and get jobs. If you want people to work hard for at least four years, you want affirmative action because that is the only way they will get jobs and college scholarships throughout the South and parts of Midwest.

There is not reason not to want black and brown people to get a college education and living wage job. That requires being accepted as a member of a "colorblind" society (one that does not care what color anybody's skin is). Sadly, racial discrimination continues to exist for many black and brown people. So we have no choice but to take affirmative action until racial discrimination permanently ends.
which you will always have and no amount of laws will change as it is really a heart matter and comes down to sin in this world. The funny thing is the more people claim racism the worse it will get because it will become like the boy who cried wolf where when issues of TRUE unfair racism occur people will ignore your complaints because you clamed that EVERYTING was racism and then when it really is people get tired of it and do nothing which makes TRUE cases worse..

Any decision that prevents Americans who deserve to go to college and get living wage jobs obviously is racist. That includes this one because before affirmative action laws were passed in the 1960s, racial discrimination was much higher than it is now.

I am still waiting for someone who took American history in school to prove we would have racial equality in housing, schools, and employment anyway without affirmative action laws.
When you think about it really if anything all affirmtive action does is change who gets the benefit ( which really harms everyone including the people it was meant to "help". The reason is that if you let people in programs/ jobs ect on anything other than merits then the overall quality of services/programs ECT which ends up harming everyone.

We are discussing how the wealthy and elite operate in favortism, Hunter Biden is a relevant and current prime example, regarding the lack of criminal prosecution by his father's (The Big Guy's) DOJ
Money makes the world go around not fair, but buying your way out of unfair trouble is not wrong either.

Correct. Nobody deserves higher education except the rich who can afford it. America!
He did not say that he said no one DESERVES college affording it is not the issue. The way into college is based on your merits working for it. If you do that then you should have the chance at higher education if not then whether you have $200,000 or $20,000 you do not deserve college.

At the same time no student black, brown, white or purple should be allowed in a college or job on anything other than merits.
What are universities going to do with the preferential treatment with their "Sports Programs"?

Many that are admitted don't have the grades to attend community college?

Or a legacy. Don't forget legacy admissions. The merit of who you are based on connections.
