What is "Hot" & what is not?

Can anyone explain the rationale behind the threads ranked under the

heading?

When I first saw it, I assumed that new threads were rated

using an algorithm measuring reactions to the OP based on frequency of reply or frequency of viewing within a given period of time - or maybe both?. After occasionally checking the

column I'm not so sure. I see posts with 15 replies and posts with no replies,

Number of 'smilies' doesn't seem to work. Are they perhaps chosen based on something like CF staff nominations?

Does anyone know?

Maybe. Its a bit hard to tell since we don't have Number of Views mentioned on threads in the Hot category.

If you look at the threads listed as 'Hot' they often appear to be anything but 'Hot', assuming 'Hot' is some measure of popularity.

I once started a CF thread called Pagan Dating which was jumped on by scads of lonely Christian CF males.

They were totally disappointed when they realised that the thread was about days and months being named after pagan gods, rather than a 'How to' manual on picking up pagan chicks.

What I was trying to say was that the view count wasn't attached to the threads as they are displayed in the 'Hot' listing. Each thread has a 'Reply' count but no 'View' count.

...Yes the view count is not visible, to us. But i was thinking that may be a computer or staff viewable statistic that would determine the thread for the hot label.

Just really guessing
