Shaking/Twisting after praying in tongues

no one has. I just pray in tongues sometimes before going to bed. And lately I've been shaking/twitching after speaking in tongues like involuntary muscle spasms.

Someone imparted this on you. Who was it? What you are experiencing is not from the Holy Spirit. How did you recieve the tongues?

A few Biblical examples that show physical movement with Godly spiritual expereiences.

-2Ch 5:14 "So that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud: for the glory of the LORD had filled the house of God."
-"And it happened that when the priests came from the holy place, the cloud filled the house of the Lord, 11 so that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled the house of the Lord." I Kings 8
-"And when they had prayed, the place in which they were assembled was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they continued to speak the Word of God with freedom and boldness and courage." Acts 4:31

I'm not sure what you what you mean. I received the gift of tongue a little over a year ago by praying to receive it. I'm asking if it's common because I've never experienced involuntary movement after praying in tongues before. This has happened the last 2 days or so.

I meditate on the book of Psalms sometimes. No, I don't do yoga.

Try to consult a neurologist. The doctor may perform some tests on your brain, if everything is OK.

Your experience goes against this. If your repeating words over and over , this is a form of meditation and can lead to what you are describing. You may start experiencing other things as well. None of this is His Holy Spirit. So other than that, I personally don't think it is a neurological issue however , Kriyas are difficult to get rid of once they get started. So you may consider discontinuing your practice for now. This is common in individuals who meditate. Jesus Christ of Nazareth warns us not to do this so.. maybe consider His words about it. Be blessed.

Hmmm, I'll ask the Father what's happening then. Not everyone gets the gift by laying on of hands. This year after ending our church wide fast with worship, people broke out in tongues. God doesn't change. I know for healing there is a lot of laying on of hands. I haven't seen that for tongues. Interesting. Thank you so much for the article. Definitely will bring it before the Father.

The only chapter in the bible on praying in tongues is 1 Cor 14 and there is no "Shaking and twisting" associated with it in that text.

No offense to anyone but I would never have asked her. I would have asked in a Spirit field forum. Well you got so many answers.. just pick the one you want I guess. Now me I would back up ask ask.. how did you get baptized in the spirit? Me they asked if I wanted it.. I said yes. They read only what the bible said as in LUKE 11 13 then asked again if I wanted it i said yes. They prayed a very short prayer then said thats it you got it.

I felt nothing got up went to sit down and tongues just came out. I have had things happen in my prayer life praying in tongues that I have never told anyone. I will say this.. I don't know about the twitching or shaking. I know Quakers were known for shaking..only had this happen once in my life when I was 16 new in the faith. I know some will jump right to "its not of God its maybe some occult thing".

See if you were Baptisted according to luke 11 13 you asked then you have the sweet sweet holy Spirit. That is the only spirit you have. Any believer that asks for the holy Spirit will only get the holy Spirit or GOD is a liar. Anyone that is not a Christian according to John 3:16 Rom 10 9-10 and asks for the holy Spirit they will get another spirit that is NOT of God. Luke 11 13 is only for believers.

If it was me I would pray and ask Him. Before I pray for anyone or come before Him praising or worshiping in spirit (tongues) I repent confess my sins and also ask Him to forgive me for any sins I did that I might not remember I did and hold them not to my charge. This way I KNOW there is nothing between me and Him.

Now if this happen to me.. I would pray and be asking Him...a. show me how according to your word this is of you or not. I would never and again NO OFFENSE ask in public. I would ask those I know who are strong in the faith that believe in and walk in live in the spirit. But I would PM then.

You know I am old enough to remember just dancing before the lord ooh that was of the devil. My late Grandma's Church men sat on one side women the other. Men prayed for me women prayed for women. Shall I do on? The list is HUGE of what MAN deems OF THE DEVIL! In some Churches you just raise your hands ..ooh bad sign. Some Churches where you can pray in tongues but...if you do it in out in the open.. that could be NOT OF GOD! You must know just speaking in tongues for some is...you guessed it of the devil. ALL love Jesus.. thats what matters most.

For me when ever His presence comes.. never ever have I twitched... shaking.. I can't remember. I know some that do have this happen... I don't touch it since I don't fully know. I will never just JUMP to "its of the devil". Well many can be easily moved by emotions and those can take the form or shaking or twitching. HAHA that does not just mean .. the devil.

Seen strange things happen with those believers that have just books in their house that.. you know movies have been made about? Things that GOD says are not of HIM? Once they were just asked "maybe take them out of your house for awhile" and all those strange things stopped happening.. I don't know. Pray ask Him if its HIM or not. He will show you in HIS word if its of Him or not.

A passage from a book I wrote many years ago about receiving the Holy Spirit and what to expect.

"Webster perpetuates a common misunderstanding with this definition. This error states that speaking in tongues is a fruit of an “emotional” or even “ecstatic” posture. While many practitioners of speaking in tongues may execute with increased emotion, this is in no way the rule and is certainly not a requisite. In many cases excessive emotion is not a result of spirituality overtaking reason; rather it is a psychological means of zeal overpowering the resistance of reason. In a future chapter, we shall discuss how the act of speaking in tongues is a cooperative effort between the spirit and the soul (will). “…among urban middle and upper-class churches, glossolalia is practiced as an isolated phenomenon by physicians, college professors, captains of industry, even psychologists, who sit in full composure and dignity while speaking in tongues!”

So as I read the OP, I wondered if there is a stress occurring between the spirit that is generating the tongues and a natural resistance of the soul (mind, will).

Hi. I have been to 3 charismatic churches, and a few individuals from these churches were shaking when the presence of the Lord was evident. In Acts 2, the apostles were ecstatic and spoke in tongues and the others thought they were drunk.
In the Jonathan Edwards sermon long time ago, I paste from crossway.org "As Jonathan Edwards put it in a letter to Thomas Prince, a pastor in Boston, “It was a very frequent thing to see a house full of outcries, faintings, *convulsions* and such like, both with distress and also with admiration and joy.”2 This background to the famous preaching of the “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God” is important to grasp. Edwards’s sermon did not occur in a vacuum" There were convulsions mentioned in Pastor Jonathan's letter.
Yes, so your reactions are normal in a charismatic church but will be disdained in a very traditional church.
But, the fruit of the Spirit is more important than all these physical manifestations. The church also has to be in order. The prophet Daniel "So I was left alone, gazing at this great vision; I had no strength left, my face turned deathly pale and I was helpless. Then I heard him speaking, and as I listened to him, I fell into a deep sleep, my face to the ground." Daniel 10:8-10
So be in peace. But some others may say that charismatic churches are all in error. So it is up to you to believe the Bible.

Is there anything in the New Testament Scriptures that support it? If not, then it is not of God and you should stop yourself doing it. Often it is a learned behaviour in some churches brought on by the erroneous notion that this type of bodily stuff is a sign of the Holy Spirit. Tongues is spoken by faith in 1 Corinthians 14:2. Because it is of faith, there needs to be no bodily manifestations included with it. Tongues is prayer to God, and it does not generate some kind of "electricity" that causes a reaction in your body or emotions.

If someone did, then they have imparted something from a spirit of divination to you. It is all the more reason to do what you can to stop it happening.
