It's interesting. We've had 3 threads about the last 3 school shootings. Many of rhe other threads barely made it to p3.

I wonder why this one was so popular?

. The shooter was a biological female, which makes them unique since the vast majority of mass shooters a biological males.
. The shooter was trans, making them even more unique.
. The well known tension between the Christian community and the trans community
. Among the victims were very young children. Usually, the younger the victims the stronger the reaction.
. Members going off on tangents.

I also think we need a cultural shift in how we think about guns. We have a culture that has an irrational reverence for guns, and violence in general. It's a weird fetish of sorts that is inordinate. It's not like we have a bunch of folks that love to hunt and have a desire to have the right tool for the job. We have a bunch of folks that love guns. They love guns so much that the thought of regulating them makes them angry, as if their secret fetish or a religious symbol were being denied them. Oh, they'll go on about how they need them to protect them from criminals or government overreach. But really, I think they just like the power of being able to kill someone. It makes them feel like God, powerful and indestructible. It really does seem to be a religious thing with them. A weird fetish that gives them power. In short, guns have become an idol, an object of worship.

As a society, why are so many individuals killing themselves...and also choosing to take out others with weapons designed for the battlefield?

...And we still do nothing to help?

Take a look at Federal, State and local budges for mental health. That will tell you where our values are.

What I'd need are 15-20 rounds in one magazine.

Laws that limit magazine capacity are just political virtue signaling. In a tactical situation it makes no real difference.

I respectfully disagree. I don't think our society is well served by the general population carrying around weapons with 15-20 rounds at the ready. Now if there is good reason (profession, etc) that's another story.

I've already spoken in another thread (the last school shooting) about how American life makes people crazy. We can talk about shootings, we can talk about suicides among both the young and the old, we can talk about barbiturate use among housewives and working men....

We look at other Western countries, and it's not just the mass shootings...it's all the obvious symptoms of a society that is making human beings crazy.

I wish we, as a society, knew the answer. I'm afraid we must have a lot of people who are deeply disturbed. I'm not certain it's all about mental illness, unless under that label we include people who feel hopeless and have virtually no sense of the value of life, theirs or that of others. Hopelessness and despair must be rampant. I am assuming the ones who act on it are only a share of the total number who are experiencing it.

You jump out of bed, and you run down the hall and open their bedroom door and there are 4 men in there and they have your girls in the rape position.

What do you do next ?????

You are going to invite the 4 Rapist into the Kitchen for Pizza and some root beer?
