It is amazing they have zip, zero, zilch, nothing to show the Bible is not 100% accurate and true. Then they try to deny the mountain of evidence we present showing how accurate and true the Bible is. They would deny that grass is green and the sky is blue if they thought they could get away with it.
The problem is that there isn't a mechanism I am aware of to apply the "true" interpretation to the Bible.

You and AV1611VET both believe the Bible is 100% true... but the details of your beliefs are completely at odds.

We have Science to determine what is and what is not true.

Science determines what is true through the scientific method, a rigorous process of observation, experimentation, and testing of hypotheses. The scientific method involves several steps:

  1. Observation: Scientists observe phenomena in the natural world, collect data, and identify patterns and trends.
  2. Hypothesis: Scientists develop hypotheses, which are testable explanations for the observed phenomena. Hypotheses must be falsifiable, meaning that they can be tested and potentially disproven.
  3. Experimentation: Scientists design experiments to test their hypotheses. Experiments must be carefully controlled and structured to minimize the influence of extraneous variables.
  4. Data analysis: Scientists collect and analyze data from their experiments to determine whether their hypotheses are supported or falsified by the evidence.
  5. Conclusion: Scientists draw conclusions based on their data analysis and determine whether their hypotheses are supported by the evidence.
  6. Peer review: Scientists submit their findings to other experts in the field for review and critique. This helps to ensure that the research is rigorous, accurate, and reliable.

Actually, no we are not at odds. But I can understand why you would say that. We both accept the Bible as literal truth. We both accept the KJV as the only authorized version of the Bible. The area we disagree on concerns Science, not the Bible. I think he is known for saying: Science, can take a hike. If I try to defend Science he will tell me to take a hike. But he still drives a car and goes to doctors and takes full advantage of what Science has to offer.

Did Joseph and Mary settle in Nazareth after the birth of Jesus so as to be outside Archelaus's jurisdiction (Matthew 2:22-23), or did they live in Nazareth before Jesus was born (Luke 1:26-27, Luke 2:4) and simply return there after His birth (Luke 2:39)?

I disagree, I believe you and AV have more similar opinions about science than you think.

AV's statement is that if the Bible states something then it is true regardless of what anything else has to say... but he also recommends believing in scientific conclusions if the Bible is silent on the matter.

Specifically:
1. Bible says x, Science says x = go with x
2. Bible says x, Science says y = go with x
3. Bible says x, Science says ø = go with x
4. Bible says ø, Science says x = go with x
5. Bible says ø, Science says ø = free to speculate on your own

The problem in my opinion is in determining "Bible says x". If you can't judge the literal age of the Earth or the literal history of the human species then there isn't really a mechanism for determining the details of truth from the Bible.

Christians of all sorts agree that God created the world and that Jesus died for their sins... but that they disagree about if the Earth is billions of years old and God's plan saw humans develop from other animals or if they were created from dust a few thousand years ago.

The title of the article may seem to agree with you, but if you read it you will see that it is also about epigenetic triggers to stimuli and not memories that is in evidence.
Epigenetics can affect how memories are passed down by changing the way certain genes work in our bodies. This happens when our experiences or environment causes chemical changes in our DNA or proteins that control gene expression. These changes can be passed down to our children and may affect their ability to deal with stress or remember things related to stress. However, this type of inheritance is not the same as passing down actual memories of events that we have experienced.

The main focus here is on Stress. This stress can be passed from one generation to the next. For example, slaves were put in shackles and this caused stress for them. We have nature vs nurture. The actual memory is not passed down the stress could be. Overall, while stress can potentially be passed down through multiple generations, they have not determined how many generations this will last.

Also, there could be a silver lining and a positive outcome. Usually, genetics work in our favor.

Did Joseph and Mary settle in Nazareth after the birth of Jesus
They moved to Egypt to keep Him safe. After Herod's death, the family returned to Israel and settled in Nazareth.

Matthew 2:23, says, "And he went and lived in a town called Nazareth. So was fulfilled what was said through the prophets, that he would be called a Nazarene."

Jesus was a descendant of David. But He testified that His kingdom was not of this world. That is why Pilate did not find any fault in him. The religious authorities of his time saw him as a threat to their power and influence.

Very practical... but as an atheist I'm missing the first step of believing the Bible is true and needing to use science to clarify it.

(To be clear I believe the Bible is both ancient and written by people of sincere faith).

I accept all that... but it is still clearly not a literal memory, but I agree that memory is a not unreasonable analogy for the effect.

but it is still clearly not a literal memory,
We have our actual ancestors to share their literal memory with us.
Of course there is a lot of revisionism that we have to watch out for.

Actually, most atheists do not even understand what they do not believe in. I usually agree with them, I do not believe in the same things they do not believe in.

The religious authorities of his time saw him as a threat to their power and influence.
As there were so few follower of Jesus at the time, I've always doubted this argument.

John 11:45 Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on him. 46 But some of them went their ways to the Pharisees, and told them what things Jesus had done. 47 Then gathered the chief priests and the Pharisees a council, and said, What do we? for this man doeth many miracles. 48 If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans shall come and take away both our place and nation. 49 And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all, 50 Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not. 51 And this spake he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation; 52 And not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad. 53 Then from that day forth they took counsel together for to put him to death.

Other than seen through the eyes of the believers, it seems to me that if there was an actual "threat to their power and influence" that those first followers of Jesus would have garnered more than a passing mention by Josephus of the Christian sect.

You mean like the Neronian and Diocletian persecutions?

That would include:
  1. Nero
  2. Vespasian
  3. Domitian
  4. Trajan
  5. Hadrian
  6. Marcus Aurelius
  7. Maximinus the Thracian
  8. Decius
  9. Valerian
  10. Diocletian
  11. Constantius and Galerius
Just to name a few.

Science does not claim truth. Science is based on on experiments and hypotheses that are testable, repeatable and observable and is open to change or be modified when when addition evidence becomes available. On the other hand, religious beliefs do not change even when contradicted by evidence. Why don't beliefs change? Likely because those views are closely tied to moral compasses.

Would you say that, when adaptable science meets adamantine faith, friction is generated?

Science does not claim truth.
The Bible is truth and Science can help us to properly understand our Bible.

The scientific method is a process used by scientists to systematically investigate and explain natural phenomena. It typically involves the following steps:

  1. Observation: Scientists observe a natural phenomenon and collect data.
  2. Hypothesis: Based on their observations, scientists develop a testable hypothesis to explain the phenomenon.
  3. Prediction: Scientists make predictions about what will happen if the hypothesis is true.
  4. Experimentation: Scientists design and conduct experiments to test the hypothesis and gather additional data.
  5. Analysis: Scientists analyze the data from their experiments to determine if it supports or refutes their hypothesis.
  6. Conclusion: Based on the results of their experiments, scientists draw conclusions and revise their hypothesis if necessary.
  7. Communication: Scientists communicate their findings through peer-reviewed publications, presentations at scientific conferences, and other means.
The scientific method is important because it provides a structured approach to understanding the natural world that allows for the development of reliable knowledge. It also allows other scientists to replicate experiments and verify findings, which helps to build consensus and improve scientific understanding over time.
