I've been reading Maggie Haberman's book. I just got to the "Stop the Steal" chapter - I didn't not know that "Stop the Steal" group was founded by Roger Stone during the 2016 primary with Ted Cruz being the target at the time. This has been a long, long grift.

Trump campaign officials got subpoena asking new questions about Jan. 6

Subpoena sought information and documents on legal representation, voting machines, fundraising around false election claims and more

The subpoena was received in early December, according to a former Trump campaign official who provided the document to The Post on the condition of anonymity because a criminal investigation is ongoing. The document seeks more than two dozen categories of information, and includes some questions that were not part of a series of similar subpoenas reviewed by The Post that were sent to several dozen people in September.

[The new questions involve 'Who's paying for your lawyer?', Dominion and Smartmatic, additional PACs and 'election defense funds'.]

Officials later testified to the House committee investigating the events of Jan. 6, 2021, that such a fund never technically existed but was a mechanism to generate funds from people who believed and were outraged by Trump’s false election-fraud claims.

Separately, several lawyers involved in the investigation said the Jan. 6 grand jury had accelerated its activities in recent weeks, bringing in a rapid-fire series of witnesses, both high and low level. Grand jury testimony is secret and is used to determine whether charges should be brought.

An Ohio couple who recorded themselves breaking into the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, and posed for pictures on the Senate floor tried to use sovereign citizen arguments to get themselves out of trouble.
It did not work.

Ignorance helps Jan 6 defendant escape one charge.

A defendant facing various charges for his role in the storming of the U.S. Capital on Jan. 6, 2021, was acquitted on one of the lesser charges against him Friday after he successfully argued he had no knowledge Congress was in session.

Black told the government he had been called by god to go to the Capitol and “plead the blood of Jesus” on the Senate floor. ABJ found that the “unique stew in his mind” made clear he didn’t clearly know what he was doing was unlawful. Govt didn’t present evidence to contrary.

In other Jan 6 trial news...

* The second (part 2 of 2) "Oath Keepers" seditious conspiracy trial (4 of 9 defendants) went to the Jury this morning.

(8 more Oath Keepers who are *not* charged with sedition are slowly working towards trial also with the same judge with a pre-trial conference tomorrow.)

* The man photographed sitting with his feet up on a desk in the Speaker's office has been on trial for a week. Today he testified in his own defense. (Not a bright move usually, and seems especially so in his case.) He "conveniently lost" his cellphone and the stungun/walking stick he took inside the Capitol. The latter, he claims, didn't work after being damaged in the shower or something. (almost exact words) The prosecutor seems to have eaten him alive in cross examination (not done yet).

* A small business owner from Indiana who had used a "sovereign citizen" argument until recently is now having a bench trial before the judge (no jury) testified today. (She spent a couple months in pre-trial detention for refusing to cooperate with the proceedings.) Trial will end tomorrow. (day 2) Her only serious charge is obstruction of a proceeding (the EV count).

* There is another single defendant starting a jury trial. He has similar charges to the woman above which he earned by entering the Senate floor.

They are now running a few trials during each week (some are short, others take weeks.)

There are a few reporters in the court house that have been "live-tweeting" all or most of it. There can be a hundered or more tweets each day. Some also are collecting the same on their blogs. Reporters miss days, etc.

I will give the twitter handles for each (place after "twitter.com/" in the URL bar.

Roger Parloff (Lawfare Blog): rparloff

One of the most complete and easy to use. Every day he starts a new thread and pins the first post to the top of his feed. Individual tweets can be a little confusing as he has quite a few typos and doesn't always label quoted text clearly. Tweets little else. Compile version also appears on web site.

Brandi Buchman (Daily Kos): Brandi_Buchman

Also quite complete. Clearly presented and edited and threaded. Compile version also appears on web site. Makes some other tweets and start of thread requires scrolling down.

Those two are the most complete. Reading both gives you the feeling that you've seen all that happened in the court room.

Others live tweeting from the courthouse:

Kyle Cheney (Politico): kyledcheney

Some live tweeting of this trial. He has also been "dropping in" to other trials and covering the Jan 6 cases generally.

Jordan FIscher (WUSA local channel 9 in DC): JordanOnRecord

This week he's been mostly covering other trials like the "stun gun" guy's trial.

Ryan J Reilly (NBC): ryanjreilly

Not at the court house, but one of the best Jan 6 reporters. He is less active right now as he is writing a book about the investigation including his connections with the online sleuths that have caught many perpetrators.

Tom Jackman (Washington Post): TomJackmanWP

No live tweets, but is apparently live tweeting on the WP site. (I have not looked at that.)

Republican group appears to come out pro-riot. Happy MLK Day!

And for context:

"Let me say as I've always said, and I will always continue to say, that riots are socially destructive and self-defeating. I'm still convinced that nonviolence is the most potent weapon available to oppressed people in their struggle for freedom and justice. I feel that violence will only create more social problems than they will solve. That in a real sense it is impracticable for the Negro to even think of mounting a violent revolution in the United States. So I will continue to condemn riots, and continue to say to my brothers and sisters that this is not the way. And continue to affirm that there is another way."

3 Active-Duty Marines Who Work in Intelligence Arrested for Alleged Participation in Jan. 6 Riot

Three Marines were arrested Wednesday for their participation in the riot at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, according to court documents unsealed Thursday.

Micah Coomer, Joshua Abate, and Dodge Dale Hellonen -- three men identified by investigators as active-duty Marines -- were arrested on four charges each stemming from their participation in the mob that stormed the U.S. Capitol in a bid to prevent the certification of Joe Biden's victory in the 2020 presidential election.

investigators first learned of the three men when they found photos from inside the Capitol that Coomer had posted on Instagram including "the caption 'Glad to be apart [sic] of history.'" A search warrant was issued for his social media accounts in August 2021. [Marine Intelligence, huh?]

In a chat with another Instagram user in the weeks after the siege, the court records say Coomer told an unidentified person "that everything in this country is corrupt. We honestly need a fresh restart. I'm waiting for the boogaloo." When the other person asked what a "boogaloo" was, Coomer said "Civil war 2."

Judge denies Navarro effort to dismiss contempt case for defying Jan. 6 committee

The ruling said Navarro had failed to prove that former President Donald Trump wanted him to assert executive privilege over his potential testimony.

“Defendant has failed to come forward with any evidence to support the claimed assertion of privilege."

Mehta noted that two other Trump aides whom the House sought to hold in contempt — Mark Meadows and Dan Scavino — produced letters from Trump ordering them to assert executive privilege on his behalf.

"Each faces counts including trespassing, disorderly conduct and illegal parading or picketing in a restricted Capitol building or grounds, in connection with the riots that injured scores of police officers, left offices ransacked and forced lawmakers to evacuate the premises amid Congress’s meeting to confirm the results of the 2020 presidential election.

The sergeants’ occupations as special communications signals analysts and the corporal’s job as an intelligence surveillance reconnaissance system engineer were first reported by Military.com and were confirmed in their service records."

This is the first time I recall seeing "boogaloo" appear in a Jan6 case. It's kind of surprising how quickly the "boogaloo" disappeared. It was quite prominent in the Summer of 2020. That summer if you saw a non-official persons carrying a semi-auto rifle (at a BLM march, the Mich state capitol) there was a good chance that some would be dressed in the Hawaiian shirts that were characteristic of the "boogaloo uniform".

[Background: "boogaloo" arose from a bad internet joke/meme referring to a movie about break dancing called "Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo" which was panned. In some online fora, putting a "2" and "electric boogaloo" was a way to take an unwanted repeat of an unwanted real world event [not a movie], hence "Civil War 2: Electric Boogaloo". The "Boogaloo Boys" were those online denizens who donned Hawaiian shirts with their "military preparedness cosplay" of millitary looking rifles and random bits of tactical gear (vests or helmets typically). It wasn't clear there was any underlying ideology over the group (other than being "ready" for an upcoming civil war) and mostly existed online occasionally gathering at events. Nearly all were men under about 35.]

The article doesn’t mention in what manner the prosecution of these three will take place, (or else I just plain missed it there?).
I think that they’d have to be removed from (their) service before being charged with a criminal complaint; unless their prosecution is done under the UCMJ ?

They've been charged by the DOJ with the standard 4 misdemeanors for trespass and illegal entry in the Capitol. Any prosecution by the Marine Corps under the UCMJ has not been announced yet.
