  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I don't think people really understand the divide on the right and why Trump got elected.

It's a Republican tradition. The way I remember the story, was that Lincoln was dead last in the primaries; but after all of the bickering and re-voting at the Electoral College after the Republicans won the General election, Lincoln ended up winning.

I'm going to guess this is a joke.

The Democrats still have a reasonable chance to gain control the Senate before the GA runoff. There are not only a lot of votes to still count in NV. There are also votes not yet received. Mail ins need to be postmarked by Election Day. They expect to be receiving votes until Saturday.

Of course, the Dems have a big lead in AZ, while the Republicans will take Alaska.

I'm not joking. That is the story to the best of my recollection. However, it has been about 20 years since I looked into it.

[Edit]

It looks like I might not have remembered it quite right.

I found a relevant link on the subject.

1860 Republican National Convention
The Republican Party held its second national convention on May 16, 1860, in Chicago, Illinois. It adopted a moderate stance on slavery and was against its expansion, although some delegates wanted the institution abolished altogether.

The two frontrunners for the Republican presidential nomination were Lincoln and New York Senator William Seward. After three votes, Lincoln was nominated with Hannibal Hamlin as his running mate....

...On November 6, 1860, voters went to the ballot box to cast their vote for President of the United States. Lincoln won the election in an electoral college landslide with 180 electoral votes, although he secured less than 40 percent of the popular vote.

You must have mistaken what I said. It's misery because the same Republicans that were in office here in Florida won again.

So what the Republicans do will be misery for those who voted for them to lose their seats.
Seems that by far the majority of voters in Florida are very happy with what the Republicans have done.

So what are the GOPs policies to resolve the problems facing America?
Lets start with pumping oil and go on to responsible spending that should help reduce the inflation that is hurting the people of this nation.

No like Biden says we must eliminate fossil fuel now. It doesn't matter if that cripples supply chains, which is one of the reasons why inflation is so high. Because supply isn't meeting demands.

Lets start with pumping oil...

You do know who does that..? Maybe you should give them a call and suggest that.

Spoiler alert: It's not the government. Well, unless you want to nationalise the oil industry.

You know that spending always increases and the national debt goes up under GOP administrations, don’t you?

You know that oil availability is controlled by the oil industry and not the Federal government, right?

I think that every state should have a law like Washington.

I wonder if Biden would pass such a law. I need to visit my Rep.

"There is no more drilling. I haven't formed any new drilling," Biden said.
Biden: 'No More Drilling;' 'We're Going to be Shutting These Plants Down All Across America'

I have literally lost count of the number of times that you have been shown that the oil companies have more leases to drill than they could possibly handle. And that Biden issued more leases than did his predecessor. And that companies have put personal profits before country.

You can continue to ignore those facts as long as you wish. The facts will remain.

It's impending that the Democrats will lose control of the House, and that Pelosi will lose her seat as Speaker.
In the House, NBC is expecting Rep 222
Dem 213

So, yes, the House goes to the Republicans with a small majority. The question is how many of them are Trumpers/election deniers?

We'll have to see what happens from there; but that is clearly a loss for Biden's unbridled agenda.
In the Senate, NBC has Rep 49 and Dem 48. Assuming that Rep will win in Nevada and Dem in Arizona, this leaves Georgia to decide the balance in the runoff next month.

Why would Republicans be swayed by a Democrat term used to ostracize opponents?

I didn't realize that "election deniers" was a Democrat term used to ostracize opponents. Is it not an objective term describing those who voted against the certification of the 2020 election and/or attempted to overturn the results?
