  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Imagine how many all told since Columbus first landed?

Imagine how many before. The Solutran culture may have arrived once, and how many waves over the land bridge or following the coast and islands came from Siberia? There's even a faint possibility that the ancient Egyptians sailed up the Mississippi. All enough for a History Channel episode, except without aliens.

Adn how many of these were arrested and deported.

As with Obama, the Deporter In Chief, I suspect that the left isn't happy about Biden's immigration policies.

The answer isn't arrests and deportations. Biden will indeed set records. The answer is new immigration law. Of course, this is unlikely to happen. The fact is that we need LOTS and LOTS of more legal immigrants.

What percentage have been arrested and deported?

If Biden hadn't shut down Trumps wall; maybe we wouldn't need to make as many arrests and deportations.

I thought this thread is to address Election Results...which are still coming in?

You thought correctly. If you don't believe that Biden's border policies haven't greatly affected the election results; I would argue that you are grossly mistaken.

I've already posted that latest updates to the tally according to Reuters.

...I think a variety of issues affected the election results. There are many other threads addressing those topics...but hey, if you want to open it up, so be it.

Absolutely! I would encourage you to discuss the results of the election as we wait for them to finish coming in.

If that drops a pebble in your pool of tranquility; you are welcome to watch them come in, in tranquil solitude, here: U.S. election 2022: Live results and maps

I thought this thread is to address Election Results...which are still coming in?

RESULTS
1) Non-Democrats have little interest in discussing the results of this election. They lost big-time compared to any off year election in my life time, other than the Bush election in 2002. For now, the answer to results is deflection.

WHY DEMOCRATS WON
2) I agree that the results aren't over and that this thread should focus on the remaining races, especially senate seats and the House races in California. We need another thread to discuss why the results happened.

THE NEW ENVIRONMENT - GETTING THINGS DONE, EVEN IN THE LAME DUCK SESSION
2) And, yes, we will need discussion from Republicans and Democrats regarding how to deal with the new political environment. Lots of legislation passed in the past 2 years because of bi-partisan support. I don't see that changing. After all, even with House leadership opposed, they should be a few Republicans who reject the MAGA leadership and work to pass legislation of mutual interest with Senate Republicans (you know, like not allowing the country to go into default).

AS THE PARTIES FOCUS ON 2023 AND BEYOND
3) Finally, the parties need to look forward to 2023 and beyond. What do they want their parties to stand for, and how will they win in the future. Fo example, I'm sure that a majority of Americans would much prefer a 2024 race that moves on from Biden and Trump (and Pelosi and Sanders). And within the parties, leadership must move to those not collecting Social Security.

AS AN ASIDE
Congrats to the much-maligned youth. They are participating in greater and greater numbers. They made the difference in 2020 and this week. The party that ignores them cannot survive for long.

I have interest in discussing the results. I suspect a win in the very near future, unless the Democrats pull some funny stuff with the ballots.

I suspect that Pelosi will be done in the very near future; as I suspect that Republicans will hold the majority.

Congrats to them surviving Biden's soaring food prices.

I'd like to see them standing to make America great again; but some seem to resist that effort.

Hrm. That site lists it as 48 Democrats and 48 Republicans confirmed in the Senate, whereas most other sites I've looked at say 48 Democrats and 49 Republicans. What state are they hesitating on calling?

Congrats to them surviving Biden's soaring food prices.

Yup, those who thought that food prices were the most important issue probably stayed home. And I certainly hope that Republican Party ignores their real interests in voting in 2020 and in 2022.

Not soon.

Republicans need two more seats, same as the Democrats. In the next week or so, AZ will likely go to the Dems, and NV to the Republicans.

That will leave GA as deciding the Senate control, same as in 2020.

I expect the Republicans to make the same mistake this year as when they lost both seats in 2020. I expect Walker to invite Trump and other MAGA's to come on down and campaign for him. Surely, he will ask Donald whether that will help.

I doubt that those who thought that Biden's inflated food prices were an issue, stayed home because of Biden's food prices. Although it is possible that they were too busy foraging for wild edibles, or scavenging garbage cans for food; it's more likely that they stayed home because of Biden's inflated fuel prices.

Enough youth came out that they greatly influenced the results. They came out because they did not make so-called economic issues as their primary reason to vote. They decided that there were issues more important that elected officials needed to deal with: respect for democracy and the vote, civil rights, abortion rights, climate change, student loans, penalties for marijuana use, and perhaps even working with other countries on solving the world's problems.

Are you aware that the Libertarian Party was formed from a split in the Republican Party; because some of those Republicans were disturbed by some of the Republican Party's Liberal policies at that time?

To this day I see Conservatives switch parties back and forth from Republican to Libertarian. I often vote for Libertarian candidates myself.

Libertarians are Conservatives. On that premise, and math, it's looking good for the Republicans IMO.

Democrats had the House, the Senate, the Executive, and two years, to address those issues.

They failed. Now it looks like they will lose.

Ah, thank you. So it's Alaska they haven't called.

That is confusing to me, though. The Republicans have a gigantic lead (from Alaska 2022 live election results):
upload_2022-11-9_22-30-22.png

Alaska does have an Instant Runoff/Ranked Choice Voting system which makes early calls harder, as you don't know how everyone ranked their choices (whether Tshibaka or Murkowski wins will probably come down to who the second and third place choices for Chesbro and Kelley's voters are). But when the differences are this big, even with only 71% of votes counted, I don't see any realistic route to Chesbro winning. Sure, we don't know which Republican will win Alaska, but it's definitely going to be a Republican, barring something insane happening like 70% of the remaining votes all going to Chesbro. Not sure why Reuters is being so cautious on this call. Most other places I looked at called Alaska for Republicans a while ago.
